    Best Bluetooth OBD2 scanner!
    BAFX Products Bluetooth OBD2 reader review. Paired with Subaru Active OBD App On an Android Device, and where to find one that will work on an Apple or ios device. Also where to find a better price on it.

    Unboxing/Instructions 3:02

    OBD2 Port Location & Pairing 7:28
    Subaru Active OBD App Use 9:41

    Check fault codes, read hidden parameters from fluid temperatures, to ignition timing, and emissions function. For years on my cars I would go to local auto parts store to have the engine light on checked and fault codes read, but now I can do it myself on most vehicles.
    I bought and used this to view my Subaru Forester's CVT Fluid Temperature in order to set the CVT fluid at the correct level. You can also check the CVT Fluid Deterioration Percentage.
    I will tell you how I liked the Scanner & Apps (Torque App, and Active OBD), show you how to install the wireless reader, the OBD2 port location, go briefly over instructions, and get your device paired with the reader.
    / @mtsubfly
    Keep In mind that you are responsible for using this on your vehicle, this is and air to the process, and these are my opinions.

    I have a 2012 Outback and just hit 60k miles. I want to change the CVT fluid myself and needed this exact information.
    Instead of buying the BAFX, I was able to get one of my cheapo $10 bluetooh readers, but I definitely needed the app. I wish it worked with iOS, but I dug up an old Android phone just do use it.

    Happened across your video. Was a Tech for 40 years, now retired 10. I’m blown away by the devices that are now available! Wish I had them in the past. Anyway, I’ve been using the BAFX module for a few years now with the Torque Pro app paired with an old Android phone. Want to change/flush the CVT fluid on my 2013 Outback, but the trans temp is not available with the Torque app and the Subaru app you’re using is nowhere to be found. Maybe they dropped it? Anyone know of another that will read the trans temp?
    Thanks!

    Hey Mark. I just wanted to thank you for a few videos that were super helpful to me & my newly acquired 14 subaru forester premium 2.5i. I'm about to change spark plugs & do the top engine clean. You think I should get the subaru top engine cleaner like you used in another video or the carbon cleaner. They make both. Or I've considered the seafoam spray as well. Car has 141,000 on it & so far I've done all the maintenance, changed filters, oil, maf & map sensors, cleaned throttle body best I could without removing, & cleaned egr valve because it was getting 10 miles to the gallon & running rough. I'm up to 20ish now. I guess my question really is should I do plugs before or after intake/top engine cleaning? Thanks for listening & your feedback is greatly appreciated.

    • @MTsubfly
      @MTsubfly  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably run the cleaners through first, then do the plugs. Any good top end cleaner will work. Sea foam is decent stuff. You can run it through the top end and also add it to the fuel tank. Also consider a new airfilter, maybe a new fuel filter too (that can cause power issues if it's really bad). Verify the pcv valve isn't gummed up.

    • @redeyedblue71
      @redeyedblue71 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Changed air filters 1st, they looked like birds nests. Then cleaned maf sensor but had to replace that & map sensor. I read a little about pcv valve but I'm not familiar so I will follow up on it. Is it a cleanable part or replace if gummed up?
      I'm certain beyond oil changes this car had little maintenance so spark plugs are a must. The CVT fluid has me concerned also as it might need attention if never maintained. I got the bafx coming soon as well. Fuel filter is under the backseat cushion? Thanks for your input.

    • @MTsubfly
      @MTsubfly  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@redeyedblue71 the pcv valve is super easy to check. It can be cleaned but cheap to replace. I've always just blasted cleaner through mine but it's not gummed up. I have a video on the fuel filter. It's honestly not as hard as it looks, but when a fuel filter gets full, it causes power problems, and fuel delivery issues.

    • @ddb1143
      @ddb1143 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also could not locate the Active OBD for Subaru. Only ActiveOBD2, and it does show the CVT temp. It is only a basic version only one page of information. Oil temp, Trans temp, Water temp, CVT ratio, and AWD %. Nothing expands like MT shows. I am going to guess that newer years of Subaru are affecting what is shown in the app. Mine is a 2017 Outback. Someone else below states that a 2020 Outback is not showing the trans temp and is using the same app.
      Also, if it fails to start up, re-start your phone.

    The BAFX ELM I just bought will not connect to the ECU of my 2018 Forester . It will connect to my corolla ECU. Apparently, Subaru has some ECU protocol that is causing some connection problem with the most recent BAFX ELMs.

    The iOS OBD Fusion will NOT read the CVT temperature and it doesn’t have a additional pack for the Subaru 2015 Outback. You can program in a custom Parameter IDs but no one on the internet has posted the necessary inputs yet. The other supported iOS apps listed on the BAFX literature do NOT either.
    I have contacted OBD Fusion support but I doubt if they will send me the Custom PID.
    So iPhone users are out of luck. There is a iOS version of Subaru’s ActiveOBD but it doesn’t talk to this BAFX dongle.

      MT BAFX has done its job by recommending several apps in its literature. It’s up to the app to read the various sensors. I wait to hear back from the OBD Fusion app people...... I will also write to BAFX and see what they say about ActiveOBD.

    • @Yankee7000
      @Yankee7000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Update: OBD Fusion recommends programming the sensor in with their Custom PID functionality in the app. To do that we will need the several parameters required which I currently don’t have..... maybe using ScanGauge’s which are available and presumably since PID is the same standard language, it should work but I am simply going to borrow an Android phone and see if the ActiveOBD used here in this video will work for the Outback 2015.

      Blue Driver, and the OBDLink brand are highly popular on TH-cam and Amazon... but I couldn't figure out a great reason why. I am all about value, and this one filled my needs, at a great price.
      I think you will maybe get a better made unit, and a neater look for more money. But I think their marketing makes it more popular, the idea that paying more for something makes it worth it, and saying that their reader reads codes that other readers can't becomes misleading.
      Know what you need it for first, research, heck... give it a try... BAFX has a great support team, I'm totally happy with mine. Good luck!

      ANDINA MM I think you will have a few options. I (think maybe) you can also pair the BAFX reader to a laptop or apple device and run a OBD2 program as well. Of course if you are going to use Apple iOS platform you will need their Apple OBD2 reader which costs in the USA a few more dollars. Really though I think you can run torque pro, or torque pro lite if they are available as an App on your phone and you may have to find in the settings where is lets you view CVT Trans Temp. It might just be labeled Trans Temp. But you will find there are a lot of Apps out there for using with your OBD2 reader, some are not good, others are great. So you should be able to find one that works good. I would start by trying Torque Pro or Torque Pro Lite. Will you have any trouble getting a OBD2 reader where you live? (Spain I think?) Goodluck!
