Thank you for all of the information Sarah. I have recently feel in love with this breed and I am looking to get my first CC soon. In doing my research on breeders, breed standard, etc. I have seen a lot of infighting within the community between breeders and CC owners alike on everything from talking down about one another to bashing individual dogs. What you’ve created is one of the most informative and unbiased videos I’ve seen on the breed and has just made my love for the breed that much stronger. Thanks again!

I love this breed, and love the history involved. I may be weird, but one of my favorite things about it, is that we cannot quite nail down exactly the history involved, and the reason is largely due to the fact that the Cane Corso is the ultimate utility dog. It can, and has, done everything. I have spent over a decade working with one of the founders of, and former Presidents of the ACCA, Brian Ward of Valkyrie Cane Corso. Unfortunately, he has gotten really fed up with the Corso community at large, and has retired from breeding the breed. Like you said, there is a LOT of politics and infighting regarding what should be the breed standard, and which direction the breed should go. One thing that I loved about Brian's approach was that he was entirely focused on FUNCTION. As you mentioned, this was the emphasis that breeders of old had regarding most breeds. He was breeding dogs that were the epitome of Athletic Mastiffs, with the temperaments we customarily expect out of the breed. As a result, his dogs were some of the only Corso's from American breeders that the traditional Italian breeders would buy from. I was fortunate enough to enlist his support, in selecting the perfect dog for me. It took 10 years, and hundreds of litters, but we got her! Storm of the Bayeaux (AKC name), we call her "Riot", is from a well known sire (ALCOR's) "Welcome to the Jungle" (Westminster BOO 2020), and her dam is from the Valkyrie line. So, we have a beautiful athletic Corso, from both a well established and respected true working line, and from a well established show line. Thank you for putting together this video. Sure, it airs some dirty laundry, but honestly, people need to know their dogs. They need to know what to expect with the breed. These type of videos do exactly that.
Thank you so much for sharing!!! Yeah I can relate to Brian, I too am likely going to get a different breed next. Way too much politics out there and people not doing what’s best for the breed. Also, so many health issues popping up. I apparently bought from two lines that have never had epilepsy and I’ve already lost two pups from my one litter to it. Heartbreaking too see. I’m glad there’s at least some good people in the breed that can hopefully keep some good lines going.

Don't apologise for making the video! This is a great start and generous sharing, so thanks! - A fresh eye has to rely on the quality of her research and her argument - not her "authority" . Authority has so often been defeated by evidence and reason.
You are welcome 🙏 I will have to do a follow up video sometime in the future as I’ve already learned a couple of things I shared have more information behind them and some people are putting false evidence online. So hard to learn the truth these days!

I think each purebred definitely has its controversy. The corso has so much politics involved that many good and ethical breeders have been pushed out and moved onto other breeds. I can't say majority of breeders are breeding for health but I am also learning you can't trust opinions. So it will be a long journey to the truth but I will be sharing my full opinion in pt 2!
Good vid! My family recently got a corso pup and she’s awesome. Perfect family protection dog. Very smart and vigilant dogs. Thanks for the history and information!
I’m blown away by how many great videos you have, like wow. Thank you so much! Update after watching video: I am so taken away by the way the Cane Corso developed. I have loved the Italian culture for so long as my grandfather is Italian but I’m third generation and I feel so close to my family by looking at these photos in a very weird way.
Thank you, same here! I am half Italian and feel closer to my heritage by helping this breed! I have since learned some of the facts in this video are not necessarily accurate because people are lying but it really helps you see firsthand what they looked like a long time ago!
Great video with a lot of information. In my area there's a small group of people that fight over who has, and doesn't have an "original" corso. I have a 5 1/2 month old corso that already weighs 80lbs. He's very well behaved and I started training him from day 1. He'll most likely be about 175-180 full grown. I truly don't care if he's not "a real corso". He's very loving, intelligent, and protective. Everyone at the local dog park loves him (except the corso "judges"). It's just funny how people fight about this.
Good video; I have both Corso's and Neapolitan mastiff's (as well as other breeds) and its very obvious that these are two breeds are of the same origin; if you haven't had both breeds you may not understand
From my research I do believe they were the same breed. Or at least very much made up of the same breeds as only 100 years ago they were hard to tell apart
I'm subscribing to your channel after watching this video. I'm not sure if maybe you're trying to possibly improve the presentation of your speaking voice or studying up on your videography skills or if you're just getting more comfortable filming yourself but this video, content aside, is MUCH easier to listen to than previous videos you've posted! It just flows way better and sounds more natural...maybe less nervous...idk? Seeing/hearing ourselves on video can be so awkward and eye opening lol. And for viewers sake sometimes we need to examine ourselves and try to make vids more "viewer-friendly" if you will. I hope I'm making sense and not just reaching here. Regardless, your speech in this video was a lot better than previous ones! As far as content we need more videos like this. I hope you continue to research literature on the subject and continue to help educate people and fill in some of these blanks we're finding in their history! Also I've seen it mentioned several times online but could only find one article that mentions other breeds being bred into Corsi during their resurrection in the US myself. It makes a lot of sense that it would have happened and considering the wide range of variances in different bloodlines of dogs that are all supposed to be "pure" Corsi I highly suspect it happened at some point. But if it did and the lineage of some corsi even born today can be traced back to the original 6 (or whatever they're called. I forget.) Then why wouldn't at least some lines have those other breeds mentioned in their pedigree? Were breeders maybe ashamed? Was there a cover-up?.... this has always been a big question in my mind because I really think I see some boxer in my CC but then again she also looks like many standard corsi. (She is a rescue so I have no clue about her bloodline) Thanks for posting. Sorry so long!
Also about the variances I realize they could be related to the fact that CC vary widely even in Italy so could be related but it seems to be different variations between CC bred in the US as compared to those from the old country. Those variances I'm referring to are from those bred in the US. All of which, to my knowledge, came from the orginal 6 (at least up until a certain point when others began importing more) Also I'm not really familiar with pedigrees and bloodlines and how they work so maybe I'm missing something.
Thank you for noticing I have definitely done a lot of work in researching this video and wrote out a script. Given the importance of the history and the lack of information you can find in one place I wanted to put a lot of work into this video. however I've already found more evidence since creating this video so I will definitely do a follow-up. We know for sure that there is cross breeding and if you watch my video after this I speak to some of my opinions on it however some of the new evidence people have sent me makes me wonder if my opinion is wrong and the super 6 are not really true corsos!?! Nobody will go on record to tell the truth because a lot of people still use the original lines from the super 6. all three of my dogs can be traced back on at least half their lineage to the super 6. So it's quite sad to know but over the years other lines have been added in including imports. I've also had some people challenge me saying that no boxer has been mixed into the lines since the recovery of the breed. It just so happens that the biggest titled Corso in history for the most part has the boxer face and because he had so many championships he was used in so many programs and his genes still show up today. Definitely more to come on these topics but I also hope the original community doesn't get too offended and that I'm airing our breeds dirty laundry 🧐
Do cane corsos come white small white patches on their noses. Im looking at buying one from a breeder and most of the pups have a small white patch on their noses.
Historically there are some that have had the white line on their head but to have a whole litter like that seems more likely to be a mixed breeding with another breed. It is rare to see them and is much more common to see black/grey and tan markings like a Rottweiler than the white stripe. If you have Instagram I can show you some full bred corsos that have it but there isn’t many!
@@Dogdayshomestead Ok! Thank you so much for a quick response. They have a litter of 10 and I think 5 have the white marking on their face. I wondered if it was mixed with a pitbull
Nice job! Would you consider doing a brief video of Mastiffs in general? Just a suggestion; when people approach me with my Corso; they question what type of Mastiff is she..
The challenge is getting video footage of Mastiffs from other breeds. I have my Presa video done but no videos of Presas to make a good video. Hopefully when Covid is over. Or would you want something on the brief history of all Mastiffs?
I appreciate your effort in educating around this topic. I have a "Corso" and have been around the breed for years. Sooo I've spent countless hours trying to understand breed origins...until I came to the realization that was both freeing and disheartening at the same time. Ive learned my lesson about trying to convince people...however...I can usually tell when an individual is on the track to discovering this realization. I see you are close...Unfortunately many of the commenters are....romantically Deceived... Please don't get me wrong I don't wanna come across as a know-it-all... What I know is that it all is not Possible to know... But I will attempt to offer a comment that may provide a glimpse of my understanding.... The term "Pure Breed" Really deceived and skewed the general public's opinion of what a good dog is and where a good dog comes from. "pedigree" is the Process of largely falsifying I dogs history... Beware of doctors, society's, organizations, and even clubs... If you ever have the opportunity to breed a dog for any purpose (working breed, cosmetics, or even for profit)...your eyes will be opened to the Game...lastly... Everybody desires a dog that fits their exact needs With the minimal amount of training necessary to do so.... Most people really feel A "smart dog" is a dog that learns what you want quickly... A "good dog" is a dog that fits your size requirement as well as Obedience.... A "great dog" is simply a "smart dog"+ "good dog" that lived a long life but has passed away. Pure breed, pedigree, Bloodline Are all terms used to promise a great dog.... Even all that said I love my Corsos...
Yeah honestly I couldn't agree more with your comment. this video took 2 weeks away from my life that I will never get back because I was so shocked at some of the history and I've already learned since this video just a few weeks ago that I was incorrect on some things. there's a lot of information I have to put out there but I haven't figured out how to do it without totally hurting myself in the process but the truth does need to be shared. And unfortunately many people are scared to share the truth as well because it's become a bribing game in this breed. If you speak up the gang will try and tear you to shreds. I am very fortunate that I have a good training club nearby that truly just cares about the dogs at least from what I can tell. I personally just really enjoy working my dogs in the sports and don't want to be a major target as mysteriously some dogs have died at AKC events before. But yes I don't know the full truth yet but I am getting closer and the biggest issue seems to be what happened in America. And it all seems to be run by greed. 😫
Have you noticed that Europeans like to Keep the hierarchy of Civilization... And in America We have fully submitted to this Belief. Most people point out the differences in their breed by European or American... And in most cases the European bloodline is believed to be the more pure... Harder working... More functional...lol.. Way more expensive
A real Corso will always be a type of breed rather than a standard breed. The way Italian farmers originally bred them is how it should be done, period!
The Cane Corso really looks like a smaller version of Neapolitan Mastiff. They are many Neapolitan Mastiffs that don't have as many wrinkles on the skin and normally they are not at shows because of the breed standards but I have seen them in backyard guarding houses. Also the Corso is more square then a Neapolitan Mastiff. In my opinion the Italians have used Neapolitan Mastiff and possibly old style Russian version of Boxer to rebuild the breed. In order to creat the short muzzle and more square body you need a dog like this the only dog that matches is the old Style large working Russian version of the Boxer.
Today’s Cane Corso’s come from Neapolitan Mastiffs! That’s why the overwhelming majority of Cane Corso’s in America and Italy have Neapolitan Mastiff RNA within their DNA. Neapolitan Mastiff’s do not have any Cane Corso RNA within their Genome DNA. So no today’s version of dogs known as Cane Corso’s and a Mastino don’t come from the same dog. It’s impossible….. If you have a child your son or daughter will have your RNA within its DNA because they come from you…. You will never have your son or daughters RNA within your DNA because you don’t come from them! So just from a Genome Sequencing & Scientific Standpoint…. It’s impossible for the dogs today known of as Cane Corso and a Neo to come from the same dog when the Cane Corso comes from the Neo!
It’s admitted that neo were used which isn’t a big deal at all. Neo and corsos were literally the same dog breed. European lines introduced boxer Great Danes not Rotties
@@Dogdayshomestead Can’t say for sure exactly but definitely The Roman War Dogs that were left behind in Italy and Deutschland, and then most likely mixed with another Dog of Some kind probably from the Alaunt or something short haired. Then in those times Dogs were always split into type over 3 different functions, The guarding Dogs, The Catch Dogs/Hunting Dogs and Herders/Butchers Dogs. The bigger guard Dog type was in Naples called Neapolitan, The catch Dog was called Corso or Corsi or Corz Dog and the herding/Butchers Dog was The Sicilian Branchiero. The Catch Dog type is related with Boxers and The Herding Branchiero with Rottweilers and is where Black & Tan in Corso is from.
Hi madam..... I have a cane Corso female.. one year, one month only ..... but she is not as big as you have ..... her hair falls out ...... can you give me some tips .... I want to take good care of her, but the doctor is afraid to look at her .... even if everyone sees her .... I am not satisfied with her In development... I don't know...... maybe from my looks she looks small also don't know.... Its knees are also worn out.... What I have to do......
Can you send me a picture of her fur? Also her breeder information? Sometimes it can be the breeder as they have not done their due diligence in breeding or even worse they are lying to you to make money. Is your girl grey in color? Most grey dogs are susceptible to coat issues. I would also get a new vet as they should it be afraid of her.
mange comes from dilute colour genes - greys and formantinos are much more susceptible to these problems. Corso's bones can be shot by too much exercise while they are growing. Size is much less of a problem if the dog is a well-balanced and structured dog. Beware of overfeeding - you get a fat dog with bad legs not a big dog.
Love it! Plz keep sharing the wonderful history of our breed!😁🤩 We can only do better in the future from learning from the past!😁 FYI its "Griffin" not "Griffen"😉😆
The traditional CC should have a scissors bite; the Italian Kennel Club got it wrong here asking for an undershot jaw. M. Sottile breeds old type Neapolitan Mastiffs. "Corso" is an old term for "body" so that CC translates "body dog". This is the way mastiffs used as cattle dogs and for hunting were called. Bonatti knew about the dog but he had never seen it; he wrote to me asking to find it..
I have a backyard bed corso but he actually looks pretty good. Kinda want to know what you think. I dont plan to continue his line, even though he's my best buddy, but his protection work is amazing!
thank you very much for your research and sharing it, I was always wondering how can this huge dog with floppy jowls could work as described in historical propaganda about the breed. I really wish i could find a cane corso, that doesnt slobber all the time and able to work.
Females don’t slobber as much and are better workers! There are a handful of true working prospect lines if you are willing to wait for the good breeders!
How do I know what kind of corso I have? When im walking her a lot of men say she looks like a pit. So how will I know if she's mixed. I do take her to petsmart for check ups but they only worry if im mating her..
You can do a DNA test through embark or another company they are under $200 typically but you can get them on sale sometimes too. Or if you have the pedigree we can take a look and see if there's anything questionable in it.
I know at least one of the pumps. That was not of show quality was sold to the Pennsylvania Dutch Amish...got my babby from them...she not of show quality but a great working class... the Amish breeder has been breeding for 20 year's...hope that helps...
Holy cow whys this video not main streamed to the Cane Corso, community?? The most significant video I've seen. A hidden jew of the youtube cane corso community.
Thank you! I put my best efforts into it, in respect to everyone who has shared some of the history. I am not that good at promoting my channel so feel free to share it if you think others would benefit.
looks and logic would say pits and neos were used. but who knows for sure. also the american breed tends to be much larger than the italian which says something. ive herd great dane was used. the standard was 110 lbs but its not uncommon to see 150 to 160lbs corsos now.
Love your video and the history but the halting audio and the shrinking text thing going on is killing me!! Just a suggestion from a fan, I really appreciate all of the research, but it makes it a bit less fluid to watch. Thank you for the video!
I always appreciate feedback, I will take a look and see if there is anyway I can improve on it in the future. I did find out some information in here is false so I definitely need an update
USA dogs produce tri color or pointed dogs all the time... only a few Italian lines have boxer... but some Italian kennels introduced high voltage meaning the introduced some incorrect blood... high voltage is half USA and half Italian
Yeah agree the US seems to throw more, just wish someone would be honest eventually. I had mainly American mixed with Italian and two of my male pups already passed away from epilepsy. It's a tough breed to do well with so much misinformation.
Valid points with the tail but my line has ear infections with long ears on the east coast only. If you have multiple corso crop and docking prevent injuries . I have a ton of pictures of injuries because I wanted to be sure what breeders were saying is true. But if you have one corso and live somewhere with lines that don’t cause ear infections you don’t need to do either. Definitely pros and cons depending on your situation

yeeeea theres a lot of fake and misinfo here . learn about the cane de presa first . why would a cane corso be used as catch dog? . the name means running dog or to course . i had this breed back in 1998 and the breed has a fake history . research the cane de presa cane corso is a very new term that wasnt used widely at all in italy ,
His channel was recommended to me and while I agree with some things he said I don’t agree with the new breed they are creating. I may have missed something but nowhere in my research does it say a cane de presa, only a presa canario.
please... you should not crop ears and tails! Really! I'm a owner of a CC female 7 yrs. That's really brutal, with no sense and against animals welfarare law (at least here) WHY do you do that terrible process?!

Thank you very much I will start looking up the breed much more is it best to buy one from Italy or the American Standard and what's the price range
Thanks for putting the work in on this....what amazing dogs we have!!!
Lol can’t say I disagree, the politics in the breed suck so bad
Thanks for the information 😊
You are welcome
Thank you so much 😊 I appreciate all your hard work
Thanks so much Bobbie
(She is a rescue so I have no clue about her bloodline)
Thanks for posting. Sorry so long!
Also about the variances I realize they could be related to the fact that CC vary widely even in Italy so could be related but it seems to be different variations between CC bred in the US as compared to those from the old country. Those variances I'm referring to are from those bred in the US. All of which, to my knowledge, came from the orginal 6 (at least up until a certain point when others began importing more)
Also I'm not really familiar with pedigrees and bloodlines and how they work so maybe I'm missing something.
Loved your honesty about find the truth and facts about this breed. I wonder if the puppies that didn't make it had cleft palates.
It’s a possibility
Thanks for great info!!
You are very welcome!

@@Dogdayshomestead I certainly hope that you stay safe. And it looks like you have A couple of good looking dogs.
But I would say not just specifically about Corso's... it wasn't only corruption in America. A lot of European breeders are crooks as well...
Yeah it seems on all sides of the ocean it's all about the money and so many people want these dogs it really doesn't need to be that way 🤷♀️
A real Corso will always be a type of breed rather than a standard breed. The way Italian farmers originally bred them is how it should be done, period!
Great information! Do you have on Instagram?
@corso_logan
Good details 👍
I love cane corso breed and the history do you breed
We do but not very often! Hopefully next year cycle as our last litter was two years ago.
It is very likely! It is also believed the corso and neo came from the same dog.
Amazing, but where can I get the real CC Breed?
Real Breed?
The audio breaks up so much I can't follow what you're saying
What do you feed your Corso's and what's your view on the raw diet
Should I register her here in pa?
It’s admitted that neo were used which isn’t a big deal at all. Neo and corsos were literally the same dog breed. European lines introduced boxer Great Danes not Rotties
Boxers and Rotti’s come from the same source as the Corso too and one type of Corso in Italy was called The Boxer Dog
And what source are you referring to as the original dog of all these breeds?
@@godworden2768 no they don’t don’t believe that Dutch bullshit there’s no travel log with none dogs coming from Europe
@@godworden2768 I’ve also looked into the Bullenbeisser
Didn't they add boxer blood for recovery of the breed? Bashir?
I haven’t found hard proof but it is believed that they did. Especially if you look at a boxer 100 years ago it looks just like a Corso today
I am not an expert either but I want to try Senza Tempo Cane Corso one day.

@@Dogdayshomestead Thanks not that big a deal I guess but ya no 🤷♀️😉🤣😋
The traditional CC should have a scissors bite; the Italian Kennel Club got it wrong here asking for an undershot jaw.

Maybe we should converse. Not on an open forum though. I have not seen your dogs so that is first to start with.
It's a tough breed to do well with so much misinformation.
temperment ? i had boxers
What's wrong with the audio. The glitching is gonna give someone a seizure
Why mutilate it? I love my corso's ears and tail. The ears stop infection and help its hearing. He communicates so much with his tail.
That's that's not true I have two that were iccf that I got registered AKC
