I always saw the older kids playing this no matter what and I never did get a chance to play it myself, but through watching them play it, I always remembered how the game looked, but I hadn't the slightest idea what the game was called since I really only paid attention to the gameplay, after a long search one day, it lead me to finding this video and lo and behold, this is the game I watched the older kids play and subsequently fail at the first stage before even getting to the Kraken. If it wasn't for me watching the older kids play this game, I don't think i would've ever found out about any of this

Ahuizotl: Envy (Hates human settlements around his territory.) Karkinos: Greed (He has been killing more whales than just humans.) Midgardsorm: Gluttony (Well, just look at him.) I actually never knew until just now how rare It was outside of Japan (And apparently Singapore) I actually didn't know that it was made in Japan either. The other one that I was really in to was a Star Wars Cabinet with 4 Levels: Battle of Yavin, Battle of Hoth, Ground Battle of Endor and Space Battle of Endor. I did manage to win a couple of times. As well as a couple of Bonus Boss Fight Levels with Luke squaring off against Boba Fett in one and Darth Vader in the other. I never won those. And that Star Wars Cabinet is gone too!

I honestly like how all the mythical creatures of the sea are portrayed as real sea creatures (for the most part), Cerberus being three great whites, Charybdis being a giant angler, Naga an Oarfish, the hydra being a trio of morays, etc. :)
I just noticed that with two players there's TWO people in the cutscenes! that's a really nice little touch! also I don't fault you for using the save state due to a graphical glitch. I consider it valid to do so
I can still remember going to Kennywood for a school field trip and sitting in the arcade for hours playing this and HotD 2. Excellent cabinet, had a seat with mounted light guns and a black curtain.
Whenever I went to funtime America, I would just hunt this machine down and try to beat it...one day me and my sister eventually did it! What a glorious moment from my childhood.
Fun fact: The roaring and screeches of the various bosses are actually taken from Alien VS Predator 2, and are the predators shriek when healing/getting hurt, and the roar when destroying heads with either the wrist blades, combistick, etc. Daga also uses the roar but its been pitch shifted and slightly modulated a key or 2 lower and higher.

Honestly I would pay if you were to do a tutorial showing how to get the game looking this good. Whenever I tried it on the Supermodel emulator, the graphics and control problems were so bad it was unplayable.
I don't make tutorial videos, but I could still try to help you get this set up. To start with, did you try a recent version? If you went to the Supermodel website, the download section there doesn't show any new versions. What you want to get is "Supermodel SVN 673", which can easily be found in Google. I used the following settings in command line when I was starting the game. -ppc-frequency=100 -res=1440,1080 -fullscreen -new3d -input-system=rawinput. I think that -new3d is turned on by default now, but it doesn't hurt to use the option. This is what fixes the graphics. Keep in mind that with this setting, everything looks perfect except for the Medusa boss, where you will lose the picture until you defeat the boss. The last setting is only necessary if you're using more than one mouse for two player. I didn't notice any issues with the controls, but it's worth noting that to shoot full speed, you need to hold both right and left mouse buttons. Finally, here are the instructions if you want to play the game in English mode. OCEAN HUNTER (Model 3 Step 2) Enter TEST MODE (The default key to press is 6) Enter GAME ASSIGNMENTS (I think you press 7 to navigate the menu and 6 to choose one) Press start button as follow:1P 2P 1P 2P 1P 2P 2P (On the keyboard, this is 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 2) Select Country

man, it would've been fun that for Ahuizotl they used the actual creature which is dog with a hand on the end of the tail instead of a plesiosaurus, but i can see why the plesiosaurus seems more fitting, but now i just imagine this freaky dog pulling people down the water and the players seeing this dog paddling underwater
Definitely one of the better emulations of this game I've seen. Only once did I see draw-distance issues (arctic level), and nobody seems to be able to render Umi-Bozu's transparency effects correcty. _Damn,_ this is one of the *MANY* lightgun games Nintendo should had ported to the Wii.
Luckily my local bowling alley still has the deluxe cabinet of this game in their arcade (and in decent condition too!). I went in and played the game from start to finish, it sure got harder as the game progressed. The graphics are incredible too, considering it was in the late 90's.
I loved this game as a kid. I spent so much money at the boardwalk arcade on it, but I never beat it. Those last three levels were brutal. I only got to the last stage once and ran out of quarters
The art direction for this game is all over the place. The heroes are cartoony while the sea life is mostly regular animals except for size and viciousness.

At the time I made this, there was a better graphics setting that wasn't the default. Some of the videos were probably made before this option even existed. Now, the better graphics option has become the default, but unless something has changed since I made this video, there is still an issue with the graphics at the Medusa boss. At about 19:41, I had to switch to the old style graphics or nothing would show up on screen at that boss. Anyways, if you want to try out the newest version, it's Supermodel SVN r673.

I have never ever seen this arcade game before. There's probably a reason why too. Seems like it would have had to compete with Jurassic Park back in the day and they are too similar in how the shooter experience is. Looks fun but I would also see why the JP arcade game is more visible even to this day because of the appeal that it's dinorsaurs vs shooting sharks and iguanas.

This game is fucking great and I loved playing it with my cousin when we were younger. But does anyone else remember fighting Neptune in the game or in a game like this? I distinctly remember shooting at the god of the sea as he stood on the ocean floor and all you could see was his upper body peer from the abyss of the deep dark ocean. But I can't remember if it was real or not.
It is heavily implied the marine iguanas, like most of the sea life, have been brainwashed by Rahab to attack humans once it decided to wage war on humanity. Rahab is basically a giant, demonic Aquaman.

The roaring and screeches of the various bosses are actually taken from Alien VS Predator 2, and are the predators shriek when healing/getting hurt, and the roar when destroying heads with either the wrist blades, combistick, etc.
Daga also uses the roar but its been pitch shifted and slightly modulated a key or 2 lower and higher.

I’ve been searching this game name for a while now and the nostalgia hit me like a damn train, I remember playing this game in a mall with my lil bro and made it to the final boss but we lose at the final round, years passed and the arcade remove the game. I can’t remember my age when I played this with my brother but what I can say that this game is absolutely fire
Honestly I would pay if you were to do a tutorial showing how to get the game looking this good. Whenever I tried it on the Supermodel emulator, the graphics and control problems were so bad it was unplayable.
I don't make tutorial videos, but I could still try to help you get this set up. To start with, did you try a recent version? If you went to the Supermodel website, the download section there doesn't show any new versions. What you want to get is "Supermodel SVN 673", which can easily be found in Google.
I used the following settings in command line when I was starting the game. -ppc-frequency=100 -res=1440,1080 -fullscreen -new3d -input-system=rawinput.
I think that -new3d is turned on by default now, but it doesn't hurt to use the option. This is what fixes the graphics. Keep in mind that with this setting, everything looks perfect except for the Medusa boss, where you will lose the picture until you defeat the boss.
The last setting is only necessary if you're using more than one mouse for two player. I didn't notice any issues with the controls, but it's worth noting that to shoot full speed, you need to hold both right and left mouse buttons.
Finally, here are the instructions if you want to play the game in English mode.
OCEAN HUNTER (Model 3 Step 2)
Enter TEST MODE (The default key to press is 6)
Enter GAME ASSIGNMENTS (I think you press 7 to navigate the menu and 6 to choose one)

man, it would've been fun that for Ahuizotl they used the actual creature which is dog with a hand on the end of the tail instead of a plesiosaurus, but i can see why the plesiosaurus seems more fitting, but now i just imagine this freaky dog pulling people down the water and the players seeing this dog paddling underwater

Definitely one of the better emulations of this game I've seen. Only once did I see draw-distance issues (arctic level), and nobody seems to be able to render Umi-Bozu's transparency effects correcty.

Luckily my local bowling alley still has the deluxe cabinet of this game in their arcade (and in decent condition too!). I went in and played the game from start to finish, it sure got harder as the game progressed. The graphics are incredible too, considering it was in the late 90's.

I loved this game as a kid. I spent so much money at the boardwalk arcade on it, but I never beat it. Those last three levels were brutal. I only got to the last stage once and ran out of quarters
The art direction for this game is all over the place. The heroes are cartoony while the sea life is mostly regular animals except for size and viciousness.

How did you avoid the graphic issues? Most other playthroughs I see have a problem with the ocean background being completely black.
At the time I made this, there was a better graphics setting that wasn't the default. Some of the videos were probably made before this option even existed. Now, the better graphics option has become the default, but unless something has changed since I made this video, there is still an issue with the graphics at the Medusa boss. At about 19:41, I had to switch to the old style graphics or nothing would show up on screen at that boss. Anyways, if you want to try out the newest version, it's Supermodel SVN r673.

Are you talking about the Midgar Zolom from FF7? Because its name is a mistranslation of Misgardsormr. The creatures from both The Ocean Hunter and FF7 are references to an important creature from Norse mythology

I have never ever seen this arcade game before. There's probably a reason why too. Seems like it would have had to compete with Jurassic Park back in the day and they are too similar in how the shooter experience is. Looks fun but I would also see why the JP arcade game is more visible even to this day because of the appeal that it's dinorsaurs vs shooting sharks and iguanas.

This game is fucking great and I loved playing it with my cousin when we were younger. But does anyone else remember fighting Neptune in the game or in a game like this? I distinctly remember shooting at the god of the sea as he stood on the ocean floor and all you could see was his upper body peer from the abyss of the deep dark ocean. But I can't remember if it was real or not.
I don’t get the sea dragon boss it’s a marine iguanas they don’t attack unless provoked so why make them attack the hero for no reason?
It is heavily implied the marine iguanas, like most of the sea life, have been brainwashed by Rahab to attack humans once it decided to wage war on humanity. Rahab is basically a giant, demonic Aquaman.

How do the intro parts run at full speed. An emulation bug makes it so that it only runs at half speed.
I increased the clock frequency using the -ppc-frequency setting to prevent slowdown.
