Not sure what's going on with tutorials for other high end chainsaws but none of them were working for me. Your video did. Others kept saying turn out the throttle screw to reduce the low idle but it wasn't working. Your info was spot on to turn out the low adjustment. Thank you!
The chainsaw adjustment was perfect.. great tip w the electrical connector.. I’ve watched a ton of U tube videos .. everything from changing the entire front end on a dodge ram , to growing new grass from seed… I like you get right to point, talk straight to the point.. well done my friend.. thank you
Thanks for the video. My Poulan was not idling fast enough and actually shut off. The manual tells me to adjust the T screw. I must have turned it 2 full turns and nothing changed. The manual said nothing about the High Low adjustment. I'll try it.
My new PR4218 started and ran great right out of the box. 10 tanks and two weeks later it became hard but not impossible to start. The check valve in the primer bulb crapped out. I took the one off my 13yr old 4018 which still works fine. After that it went back to starting with one or two pulls. I pulled one of the muffler bolt tubes out to open up it up (easy to reinstall if needed for warranty) and installed an E3 spark plug. It's now on tank 21 and it's a screamer! These Poulans really love the E3 plugs. They idle better and have more low end torque. I wonder how many hard starting complaints with these are due to a crappy bulb?

Hello everybody in cyber world. Some viewers thought my video was a little vague,so I will elaborate a little more on the tune up.In the video you only see me adjust the low screw. That is to get the chain to stop spinning and idling good.To adjust the RPM hold down the throttle and adjust the high screw. If you turn down too low saw will bogg and stall. If you turn too high will not sound right either. So you have to listen for that high rpm and the right sound. You will know when you hear it.Hope this helps
scotianinmotion1 --Hello fellow sawmen, just want to send a quick shoutout about carb adjust tool.I shot the video to give people an alternative, not to dismiss the adjust tool.Because of government regulations your're not allowed to purchase these tools depending on where you live. You can get them on E-Bay and other sites online if need be.--Appreciatively--Scotianinmotion1
Video very Helpful, your camera is out of focus when looking close up. Thanks for using electrical connector , great tip. Can you repeat what you said with the chain saw off.
Great tip. I just found one at the recycle center had to just clean the cover and tighten the spring alittle. Gave it one turn. Now just have to set the idle up alittle. I'll use your tip. Thanks
Would have likes to see the procedure in adjusting the high side screw. And if your taking a carb apart to clean the screws where is the best beginning setting and process to ajust both low and high settings ?
You got that right !! Every time I hit another 500 subscribers, I give away a tshirt. If you get a chance to check out my channel you may find something you like as well !
The plastic choke mechanism on my Poulan broke. I ordered a replacement carb kit; carb with gaskets, spark plug, primer bulb, air cleaner filter, new fuel lines with filter for $18. Also order the spline mixture adjuster driver (10 for any setup) for just a couple of bucks more.
Thanks for the video im getting in to camping season here in PA and need to get my saw running properly to cut some wood so im going to try to get it running tommorrow.
Thank you for the video ,the manufacturers should put Phillips head screws on the carb adjustments . If a carb is factory set in USA there is no guarantee it will work properly on the other side of the world. I have a McCullough cs360 which is virtually the same as a Poulan and I cut slots in the screws to adjust the hi and lo from day one . I richened it up because I live in hot dry conditions and run a 25 to 1 fuel oil mix ,your saw will give you many years of good service if you do this ,IMHO these saws are good value.
Thanks for the review, you sound like the kind of guy that would invent, instead of spending his hard earned cash on tools you don't need. I'm gonna play with the ratio idea, and see what happens. Thanks
After studying forums on these lower priced chainsaws and seeing some of the problems ,I believe most are an oil mix or carb mixture problem ,these strato charged engines seem to run lean generally ,the oil fuel mix recommendations of 40 to one or 50 to one is only to get around euro 4 regulations and this cooks the engines .I had a ryobi weedwhacker that ran for thirty years on 25 to 1 fuel and didn't carbon up .I hope this helps some people ? Kind regards.
Thanks for the tip of the electrical connection for adjusting the carb. Saved me the price of the "tool". Big help and good instructions, thanks again.
I got the same saw but mine turns on and runs good for a bit then it revs really high. It’s spins fast and then shuts off, after that I start it back on and it idles. But then when I give it some gas it does that same thing. Why?
got a bogging question.. Saw will start idle run like you can't believe.. put it in a log boggs down. I've given it more gas . would the idle have anything to do with it
I bought this same chain saw and it would stall every time I press the throttle. You would think that they would test it before selling. The electrical crimp connector works to set the jets...Thanks!
The mixture screws on my popular are out of whack. With the screws turned all the way in How far do you unscrew to get it to run? How many turns out to set them? I can't get it to start.
I paid 7$ for a kit with 20 different carb cleaning picks and 6 different carb adjustment tools! Just a heads up if you want to find the actual tool! I used this trick fir many years until I had many different type carbs to adjust!
Okay, good info, but does the L screw adjst idle, or that third screw that you said was for the car? My saw stalls shortly after hitting idle. And if I turn L in, the chain start spinning.
Hi, thanks for putting this video together. Would you know how many turns the PoulanPro’s High and Low jets are backed out? Also, turning the screws out give it more fuel? Any help would be appreciated
This is the only info I really want! How many turns to back in after cleaning the carb, I need to get a base line to start. Psxcancer asked the perfect question. Hit me back if you ever found out the initial settings on the low high.
I really wanted to hear your tips on how to adjust the Poulan carb, but with the engine running I could barely hear your voice. On my saw, getting the engine to rev up is very difficult. If I quickly squeeze the throttle, it will quit. If I VERY SLOWLY squeeze the throttle, I can get it to rev. Numerous attempts to adjust carb has not fixed the issue. Your thoughts? Thanks.
Sorry for the late response. The easiest way to do this is to start from scratch. So turn both screws in all the way clockwise, until they stop but do not screw in too tight. Now screw both screws out 1&1/4 to 1&1/2 turns. Then try and start the saw,if it is boggy hold the throttle down all the way and turn the H or high screw out until your rpms pick up this will give it more fuel.If you turn to much saw will bogg again, just turn back a little. This should fix the bogg. Then turn your L or low screw out until the chain stops spinning this should fix the idle.Hope this helps.
I had used the same trick for my screw driver,(I'm an electrician) so it was a natural solution, but I found the special screwdriver on Ebay for $4.00!
Just wondering why you would use low-speed mixture screw to adjust the idle speed instead of the idle-speed screw? The idle-speed screw is there for just that; to adjust the idle speed. It doesn't affect the mixture. To use the low-speed mixture screw to lower your idle speed, will mean that your idle mix is either too rich or too lean, depending on which way you went to slow it down. The low-speed mixture screw should be set for fastest/best running at idle. There is a range where you won't notice any difference. Then set the idle speed (so the chain isn't moving) with the idle-speed adjustment screw. Then you can tweak the mixture screws to get rid of any hesitation coming off of idle. (Probably more toward rich, on the low-speed mixture screw, if you initially set it in the middle of it's range.)
Sorry for the late response. The reason why I use this method is because my idol does not stop my chain totally when I adjust it.I also have a stihl and your method works fine.Just this Poulin is a different animal,so I have to play with that low screw to stop the chain.
+scotianinmotion1 I have a Poulan 4218 AVX and the idle screw works just fine. It sounds like yours has a problem with the throttle butterfly binding a bit. For some reason, it's not closing properly when you have your finger off the throttle. If it was mine, I would try to find out why, and then fix it, rather than compromise the mixture.
Im with you Tramp. Idle is always set with the idle stop screw. It is tru that the mixture is a factor in where that setting ends up being . Low mixture is for idle to midrange performance. It does take some fine tuning of all 3 adjustments since they will all affect each other.
Dont know why you would have the first 1/3 of your video filled with unwanted weedwhacker info when the title of your video is adjusting a poulan chainsaw carb... which is the only info i needed...good tip on the elect connector 😃👍
Thanks for the video. Adjusting the carb helps me out. I'm wondering if you can suggest an adjustment for the very same machine, but on the different end. I can keep my motor idling, but what happens is that after I give it some gas, then release the throttle it stops. It'll keep going as long as I hold the throttle, but release means that it shuts off. Suggestions?
Coincidentally, I just cleaned it out and tested it. Not the problem. I'll have to wait until I have what it takes to turn my adjustment screws. Thanks for attending to it, though.
I'm having the same problem now. Since new it died when you hit the throttle. I've played with the carb adjustments a bit and now It dies when I let off the throttle.
Steve Bowlin -- Probablly needs a good cleaning. I would strip it down to the carb. Take carb apart and clean with carb cleaner. New gas, New Plug. Clean muffler screen. Then tune it up
Adjust the hi mixture for highest RPM'S at idle and hi mixture for highest RPM'S at full-throttle. Set the hi mixture for best setting. Set the idle until the spool just stops or best setting. Get the special tool!
thanks for the video.. i bought a chainsaw just like that.. Mine runs fine for a little bit but once it gets hot it turns off on me and seems to not be getting enough gas or something.. which one do I need to turn.. the high or low and which direction?
say there, BOTH of my poulan saws are having issues with the self oilers, now I took them off in the field and inspected, however I didn't remove the hoses just tried to blow them out and clear them, no luck, they are tearing up my bars and chains, can I just hook the compressor up , pull the clear plastic fitting out of the oiler supply and give it a shot of air right through that tube? we just got back to the shop, and trying to get some insight before I tear them apart since I use them almost daily this time of year, I have to admit, the 16 inch 36 cc BLOWS MY 42 clean out of the woods, seriously that smaller saw just tears it up for me, as long as I'm manually slapping oil on the bar that is, I cut about 30 cords, that is 60 pickup loads, of wood last year. So I do work them can the self oiler break? thank you in advance and thanks for he carb adjust info
Absolutely worth a try also make sure the oil groove in the chain is clear of dirt and dust.If that doesn't work your plan to take it apart is a good one.good luck
kentagion The oilers are available cheap online and are easy to fit ,even stihl wears out oil pumps. My McCullough which is a Poulan tears through Australian hardwood which is bloody hard like a hot knife going through butter.
My 18" Poulan Pro I replaced the carb and now it races like crazy high idle speed even with both screws all the way turned in or out they do not have any change in idle speed. Any idea what is the problem? The carb is brand new model Zama C1M-W26C Carb 545 07 06-01 PP3816
Try to reset from scratch. And try the idle screw first. If you can't get that from racing, you might have to get that carb looked at. May not be assembled right or something is stuck. Make sure the linkage is in the right position. I can't tell you more without actually seeing it.
Could be a number of things. Start with the fuel filter and lines, check air filter, check spark plug, check muffler screen could be clogged, lastly clean carb and adjust, maybe out of tune or carb needs to be rebuilt.
Real quick. If my chain is spinning at idle then adjust the low side by turning cc and if I need to speed it back up then cw. When do you adjust the high side?
Thanks for the video. Mine runs like a charm for 5-7 minutes, then dies. Dies like it is getting zero fuel. Will not restart until it cools down. Did the EXACT SAME THING, BEFORE AND AFTER I installed a new carb, new fuel lines, new fuel filter, and new spark plug. Ughhh. Any ideas folks? Totally frustrated.
The ones on the homelite are pacman, the one on the poulin are splined. The connectors should have a soft aluminum sleeve inside. This works well for grip.
thank you,I just bought spline tool and a bunch of others.i bought one of those 18" poulan pros from a Ebay sight, they sell them as parts, but high and low adjustments are not correct on them.Haven't got it to fire yet, almost a few times, then I lose it and have to start all over again.I think fuel T screw is not right either.I'll keep trying,I never give up.
Ok start from scratch.Turn both screws in all the way to the right clockwise. Then turn both screws 1and 1/2 turns to the left, then try and fire it up.Then you should be able to play around with the low screw to get it running right. And the high screw finally to tune the RPM--Good Luck
Thank you,I'll try that, haven't touched it in a week.I have to mix 40 to 1 gas for this one too,I can use 50 to 1 in almost anything to get it to run,but maybe I should do it right with this poulan pro,I don't want to screw it up.
Well that works to start it what you told me to do,but I believe the T screw is incorrect as well.I have to put it at half choke everytime to restart it and doesn't stay running adjusting the low screw.I believe if T screw isn't correct,The low screw will never bring the correct sound I'm looking for and keep it running?
Could be bad gas check that first--Check fuel lines and fuel filter may need to be replaced.Check spark plug make sure it looks good and is adjusted .-or buy a new one.Choke could be stuck open. Also carb may have to be adjusted. If you read my first post it will explain how to do this.if not check out some more videos on how to adjust carb.Dont want to ramble on too much, but try those things first--Thanx--Scotianinmotion.
dumb question, but on my 16 inch poulan, when i poured out the fuel to do a new mix, a round plastic piece, the size of maybe a quarter, is whatever that is supposed to be in there and just loose?
I know this is an old video, but I'm working on a Poulin Pro 1842 that won't rev to full throttle. Checked muffler screen, replaced fuel lines, carburetor, air and fuel filters and primer bulb. Watched this video for ideas and noticed that he has the chain installed backwards on this saw. I don't think it will cut very well....
You will need to start from scratch to adjust. First turn both screws in clockwise until they stop. Don't turn too tight. Then turn both screws out counter clockwise about 1&1/4 turns. This should at least get the saw started Then start playing with the (Low) screw turning in small increments to adjust the idle. Then play with the( High) screw, doing the same thing.Turning in little increments to adjust your rpm. You will need to hold down your throttle to get the rpm just right. If you mess up start over again. I hope this helps--Gooduck L
I thank you very much for the answer..I had tried this ,as a mechanic use as basic..Then i found the fuel line from tank to carb had a small hole..Thanks again,,
Head Ike Come on now, don't you know that's how you sharpen a saw chain? Running it backwards restores a nice sharp edge on the cutters and knocks the rakers down to the proper height.
Question do u turn it to the right or left anyone Poulan pro chain saw turn to the left did not work and do both screws go left to or right to bring ilde up or down
Start from scratch-- Turn both screws to the right all the way until they stop.Do not turn too tight.Turn both screws to the left about 1&1/4 turn.Start chainsaw and adjust the low screw to the left in small increments to adjust idle and chain from spinning. Then adjust the high screw the same way but hold down the throttle all the way.If you turn down too low saw will bogg out and maybe stall. Then turn back to right until saw sounds like if is reving fast. This should get you back on the right track. You may have to play around a little to fine tune and find that sweet spot--Good Luck
If you want to tune the carb from scratch. Turn both high and low clockwise until they stop. Don't over tighten. Then turn both out 1 to 1&1/4 turns. That should get the saw started. Then fine tune from there. Turn low screw until chain stops spinning. Then hold down your throttle and adjust the high screw to get that sweet spot I call it for the rpm's. You will know when you here it. If you adjust to much either way it will die or bogg down on you. Hope this helps. I would also check out some other tubers. No such thing as too much info.
Check all the obvious things first-- fuel filter, fuel lines, sparkplug, muffler screen, air filter.-- If all those things are ok, then you will have to re tune the saw--- to re tune turn both screws in clockwise. Not to tight, just until they are seated. Turn both screws 1 & 1/4 turns each, counter clockwise, this should get the saw started. Lastly if doesn't work may have to clean or rebuild the carb. Try the low screw to get it idling better. Let me know how you make out.
I tried to use the butt connectors but one was too big (yellow, 10-12g) and the next one was too small (blue, 14-16g) and wouldn't even hammer on. Think a different brand might work? I really don't want to buy the tool. Too bad you didn't show the high speed screw adjust too.
Sorry about the connector guage. Mine are not marked,so im not sure. But I use the same one on both screws. They do have an aluminum sleeve inside this helps with the grip. To adjust the high screw--screw it in all the way clockwise, not too tight.Just until it stops. Then turn it out maybe 1&1/4 turns, this should at least get you in the right direction. Low speed screw is to make saw run lean if you screw in.and rich if you screw it out.High speed screw will give saw more power and speed. Some people refer to the idle screw as throttle, because you can adjust idle by pushing on the throttle plate when you screw it in.I hope this helps, again sorry about the connector.- Thanks:Scotianinmotion
Sorry for late response. the tip is just a blue electrical connectors you can buy for wires, they come in different colors and sizes.i use the blue ones or pink.you can get them just about anywhere Canadian tire --etc--hope this helps.
I have post up for all the little things to check first. I would save the carb for last. Yes it may need to be tuned up. For that I would use the butt connector.
ok, I got a brand new Poulan given to me! It is hard starting, and so I took it in to da dealer, he said it's not worth fixing! No compression! This thing is brand new! Is there anything I can do! Oh, yea, they have a brand new huskvarna or still they'll sell me! God Bless!
If you have a compression tester do the test yourself.if you trust the shop and he is correct you got a dud.i would return and try and get my money back.If you can get the husky or the stihl I would go for them much better machine.i grew up with stihl so im a little biased --I think they are the best.
I need to adjust my carb, which is why I watched this. But a small review on my pp4218. I've had the saw about 2 months. I've cut about 3 cords with it and have about 3 more to do. The ONLY real issue I have is that it gets vapor locked and won't restart for about 15 minutes. I'm no nonsense when cutting and 15 minutes every time I shut er down to fill up and sharpen the chain is upsetting, especially when I go through 3-4 tanks of fuel on the average day. Now, I was going to return it and go to my husky dealer, but I'm not. It's a hell of a little saw. Other than vapor locking, I prime, choke, pull, half choke, pull, pull and it starts, every time. It was $184, go to stihl or husky and for the same cc you're paying 3 times as much, and look at their reviews, not perfect either. I think I do over work the saw and could probably go for a pro saw so I don't hold it against the saw. 5 stars. And thanks for the carb help.
scott dennison You may need to rebuild the carb even though its not that old.Only thing I can think of is watch the chain oiler they do tend to get clogged with saw chips and can make it run hot.Sometimes the gas tank can swell or make gas too hot or vent hole can get clogged causing that vapor lock.Try better gas.You are a beast with a chainsaw.Keep cutting and good luck
scotianinmotion1 Thanks for the response. I think a rebuild is above my level but I could give it a shit. I'll keep a better eye on the oiler, though I thoroughly clean and degrease the saw (except the chain) after every use. I'll check out the vent hole and use premium fuel too. Another update, I cut the baffles out of the muffler, retuned it and got rid of the safety chain and it performs much better. Thanks again.
scott dennison hey bud, I had 3 saws that would run very similar and cut off, but it was not actually vapor lock, our problem all three saws ......that little filter inside the gas tank, so never pass up that possibility, you can wring them in a rag blow through them, and they will work for awhile, napa has them new fairly cheap
You can try Canadian tire, home Depot those kind of places.Make sure they are the blue or pink ones. Not sure of the size.If you can I would take a carb screw and use for reference.I hope this helps and good luck.
Turning the L or H screw clock wise....to the right....Will close the jet. Turning the T or idle screw usually increases idle speed. Start off with both the L and H screws 1 and a half turns out ( left from fully closed)
the reason i ask, it aint running right and at 3 quarter throttle, it starts to die. completely dies at full throttle. if you think its the carb, i will try your electrical piece on screwdriver trick
+Dennis “DDietr” Dietrich wedge a screwdriver in between then and turn carefully.should work for now.you could try and sand the threads a little but be careful or cap could leak.
I fixed my cap by cutting away some of the plastic on the threads of the cap. Works great now. There was a time I didn’t think i was going to get it off.
Thanks, i'l have to try with my POS. popular pro....lol. Shit ran perfect one use, then gave me nothing but issues...So i just put it away......been about a year now. I'll reply back once I fiddle with it and let ya know.
I did watch the entire video and I dont have any nor can I find those connectors anywhere. The $20 tool will last you years while the plastic connectors will stretch and fall off in a few months or they will tear if you do not have to correct size screw driver or they become brittle and just break so why bother spending the $20 over time and being frustrated than spend the money right then and there and never have to worry about it again
You guys drive me insane! "screw it a little bit.... " OK. Clockwise? Counter? What is the beginning setting? For example. 1969 4bbl quadrajet. All the way in, 1 1/2 out for both mixture. Tune to smooth. Sorry but 4 videos later and not one person starts from not able to idle.
Yeah, I came here hoping to get some information about mine that runs instead of idling. The video of the electrical connectors is so blurred you can't see very good, And it would be helpful to know which way to turn instead of just saying" adjust the screw".

Sandy Price -- I like the E plugs as well. I would check the bulb just to make sure not plugged. Sometimes they get dirt in there.
AWESOME ! Love the idea for using electrical connector to turn the splined screws !!! You saved me about $10...and a trip to town. THANK YOU !
Plastic water line for your ice maker works well also
Thanks for the tip. I just bought a Poulon Pro 42cc chainsaw and it's not idling as well as I'd like. Now I know how to adjust it. Cheers
Once you get the chain set.Adjust your idle screw a little, you will know by the sound.-Thanks
Plastic water line for your ice maker works well also
The plastic water line for your ice maker works well as a tool for adjusting those screws also

+scotianinmotion1 Thanks!
Trying to see you homemade adjustment tool, but pic it too blurry. Can you show a clear picture?
they are called butt end connectors for electrical wiring. Canadian tire will have them. just make sure you get right size
Thanks for your time. I was having chain saw bogging at high speed. This info fixed it. Thanks again.
You're special tool for adjusting the screws on the chainsaw carburetor works great! Thank you
Thanks, you saved me a major headache this afternoon. I'll probably still get the tool, but your tip worked great.
Thanks for the review.
Thanks

Thanks for the video im getting in to camping season here in PA and need to get my saw running properly to cut some wood so im going to try to get it running tommorrow.
It would be nice for you to say which way (left ir right) you are turning the adjustment screws...

Also Poulan: "We are going to pretend we didnt see anything"
Mine did that to me today , great thing I found your video . Love having one around for occasional project that needs to be done fast . Thanks

my 42cc I turn it on notice the chain does not move when I leave it for idling and rev it up it shuts off after I take my finger off the throttle
It will slow and stop once it warms up
While making my cuts literally leave my finger on throttle so it won't shut off
Great idea on the adjustment tool. I need one tonight, can't get one that fast but I can make one now. Thanks!
Awesome, keep on cutting.
I made the tool and it worked Great! Got my saw running much much better.
What size butt connector did you use?
Thanks for the tip of the electrical connection for adjusting the carb. Saved me the price of the "tool". Big help and good instructions, thanks again.
The plastic water line for your ice maker works well also
What size blue electrical connector?? They make several sizes!!
@@JH-zy1dj other similar carbs. 1.5 turns CCW from lightly seated.
Kntryhart did you resolve your issue with your poulan?
I had used the same trick for my screw driver,(I'm an electrician) so it was a natural solution, but I found the special screwdriver on Ebay for $4.00!
Opom
J Dovak Amen!!
Because its same to adjust u idiot... your so informed yet not informed
Excellent info, will try that on my me 260 which has no power
Thanks for the video. Adjusting the carb helps me out. I'm wondering if you can suggest an adjustment for the very same machine, but on the different end. I can keep my motor idling, but what happens is that after I give it some gas, then release the throttle it stops. It'll keep going as long as I hold the throttle, but release means that it shuts off. Suggestions?
If it is stalling on you when you take finger off throttle, I would have a look at the screen arrestor on the muffler first. Maybe clogged.
Hey nice video
I just got a poulan pro 42cc, looks new but was from a auction , can't keep it running long enough to turn the blade
Just solved this myself! By putting a hole in the air filter cover to allow more air thru.
say there, BOTH of my poulan saws are having issues with the self oilers, now I took them off in the field and inspected, however I didn't remove the hoses just tried to blow them out and clear them, no luck, they are tearing up my bars and chains, can I just hook the compressor up , pull the clear plastic fitting out of the oiler supply and give it a shot of air right through that tube? we just got back to the shop, and trying to get some insight before I tear them apart since I use them almost daily this time of year, I have to admit, the 16 inch 36 cc BLOWS MY 42 clean out of the woods, seriously that smaller saw just tears it up for me, as long as I'm manually slapping oil on the bar that is, I cut about 30 cords, that is 60 pickup loads, of wood last year. So I do work them can the self oiler break? thank you in advance and thanks for he carb adjust info
Absolutely worth a try also make sure the oil groove in the chain is clear of dirt and dust.If that doesn't work your plan to take it apart is a good one.good luck
ok thank you man have a good one
kentagion The oilers are available cheap online and are easy to fit ,even stihl wears out oil pumps.
My McCullough which is a Poulan tears through Australian hardwood which is bloody hard like a hot knife going through butter.
Regarding the L and H screws. Is clockwise less fuel, counter-clockwise more fuel? Like an older automobile.
YES!! Clockwise is less fuel and counter clockwise is MORE fuel
@@svennykennyheller6332 As I figured, thanks SKH!
You just saved me the price of a new chainsaw ! Thanks!
Hot restart is where I had trouble. Time for a break, eat a sandwich 🥪, wash it down 🍺, check the weather 🌧 then get back to it 🌳
nice hack on the screw driver but I hope you noticed the chain was on backwards before you used the saw..
Good catch, didnt notice that!
I came to the comments just to see who else noticed that.
Low side for idle with no trigger pull. If engine bogs down when fully pulling on trigger, then you adjust high.
Mine done same thing gas cap had no breather hole changed cap works good
Thanks for putting this video together! working on a Poulan Pro PP5020AV
nice little finds for sidewalk shopping
Thanks for the adjustment tool hint.
Thank you good video,I like the adjusting tool you made.I was just wandering if the screws were pacman type screws or something else?
I have a popular pro, it starts and runs with the choke on but when I pull the throttle it dies right away. What would you think the problem is?
Could be bad gas check that first--Check fuel lines and fuel filter may need to be replaced.Check spark plug make sure it looks good and is adjusted .-or buy a new one.Choke could be stuck open. Also carb may have to be adjusted. If you read my first post it will explain how to do this.if not check out some more videos on how to adjust carb.Dont want to ramble on too much, but try those things first--Thanx--Scotianinmotion.
Also don't forget to check the muffler. The screen can get pretty carboned up this will bogg down the saw to.--Good Luck
wow, it really does work. thanks for the tip on doing this man...saved me some $... much appreciated
Thanks for the review.
dumb question, but on my 16 inch poulan, when i poured out the fuel to do a new mix, a round plastic piece, the size of maybe a quarter, is whatever that is supposed to be in there and just loose?
That maybe the collar to hold on the gas cap. Can't be the fuel filter that big.
I don't think it will cut very well....
video shows adjustments of ''h'' and ''l'' after saw is running...Mine won't start! So what are the ''h'' and ''l'' settings to start with>? THANKS.
I thank you very much for the answer..I had tried this ,as a mechanic use as basic..Then i found the fuel line from tank to carb had a small hole..Thanks again,,
I bet that chainsaw doesn't cut to well with the chain on backwards!
Head Ike Come on now, don't you know that's how you sharpen a saw chain? Running it backwards restores a nice sharp edge on the cutters and knocks the rakers down to the proper height.
How about a size for the electrical connectors? Looks like 16-18 ga, but theres no way to tell watching the video.
I think there 12 but that's a guesstimation. Just make sure they have the aluminum sleeve inside that's what bites the thread on the screws.
Thanks awesome tip 🇨🇦👍
Scotianinmotion1, any input on the throttle adjustment? The hole with the "T" located uner the low/high adjustment??
shickster lnwmsh You should just turn it left to speed up your idle or right to slow it down. It will also help chain from spinning, when it warms up.
You may have to play around a little to fine tune and find that sweet spot--Good Luck
scotianinmotion1 thx
Great info....,,,Nowadays..you can buy the speciality drivers on ebay for 3 bucks....i believe they are 21 splined teeth..
And the hi screw? what did you show? Your carb was already adjusted. All you did is fine tune it.
@@scotianinmotion1 cool Thanks
HI
i got a poulan pro 18inch gas chain saw had it 2 years and it starts up and only runs when you push in the trigger wont idle
Let me know how you make out.
i found carb screw driver for sale on ebay cheep price
Tim Bolt Nice-- If you can get it cheap it's worth it.
Some people refer to the idle screw as throttle, because you can adjust idle by pushing on the throttle plate when you screw it in.I hope this helps, again sorry about the connector.- Thanks:Scotianinmotion
what is the tip on end of screwdriver that you use to adjust your carb please let me know
Sorry for late response. the tip is just a blue electrical connectors you can buy for wires, they come in different colors and sizes.i use the blue ones or pink.you can get them just about anywhere Canadian tire --etc--hope this helps.
It is an electrical connector for wires. The blue one work the best.once it wears out just get another one very cheap.
I have the same McCulloch weed eater. I love that baby and take dang good care of it!!! My McCulloch Pro Mac 610 chainsaw needs a baby nephew.... :)
Captain Moroni, awesome name and profile picture!
Damn, and I just ordered the tools.. Still try the electrical connector tomorrow.
Nothing wrong with having the tool. I only made the video as a cheap alterative, good luck
Awesome tip for the butt connector!!
Thanks for the review. Anything to help the fellow man.
I have post up for all the little things to check first. I would save the carb for last. Yes it may need to be tuned up. For that I would use the butt connector.
Thanks for the help it was awesome and thank u again
ok, I got a brand new Poulan given to me!
Thanks again.
scott dennison Shot
scott dennison im gonna try that myself thanx.
scott dennison hey bud, I had 3 saws that would run very similar and cut off, but it was not actually vapor lock, our problem all three saws ......that little filter inside the gas tank, so never pass up that possibility, you can wring them in a rag blow through them, and they will work for awhile, napa has them new fairly cheap
Where did you buy that little blue electrical connector?
You can try Canadian tire, home Depot those kind of places.Make sure they are the blue or pink ones. Not sure of the size.If you can I would take a carb screw and use for reference.I hope this helps and good luck.
Hello Sir, how is my oil is eating too much of petrol chainsaw
Does turning in mean counter clock wise?
Turning the L or H screw clock wise....to the right....Will close the jet. Turning the T or idle screw usually increases idle speed. Start off with both the L and H screws 1 and a half turns out ( left from fully closed)
the reason i ask, it aint running right and at 3 quarter throttle, it starts to die. completely dies at full throttle. if you think its the carb, i will try your electrical piece on screwdriver trick
Where do I find those blue connectors? Home Depot?
Did they ever the fix the gas cap issue? It is impossible to remove.
+Dennis “DDietr” Dietrich I thought it was just me
+Dennis “DDietr” Dietrich the two nubs on the cap face
+Dennis “DDietr” Dietrich wedge a screwdriver in between then and turn carefully.should work for now.you could try and sand the threads a little but be careful or cap could leak.
+scotianinmotion1 the connectoes you can get at depot for sure.get the blue or pink ones.they are wire crimp connectors with a metal sleeve inside.
I fixed my cap by cutting away some of the plastic on the threads of the cap. Works great now. There was a time I didn’t think i was going to get it off.
You can’t see ANYTHING. Thanks a lot.
Got a new pull pro 42cc with carrying case for $20 at a yard sale

Mine starts but chokes / dies after 20 seconds ...what could this ?
may need a good cleaning or a tune up
Thanks for the tips
Especially the tip about cutting slots into the high and low screws for a flathead screwdriver to fit in. pro tip.
My Poulan chain saw won't start. How to re adjust these two screws to make chain saw start?
Hey good job and thank you.
You can buy a set of carb screwdrivers on ebay for a few dollars.
Thanks, i'l have to try with my POS. popular pro....lol. Shit ran perfect one use, then gave me nothing but issues...So i just put it away......been about a year now. I'll reply back once I fiddle with it and let ya know.
You have to buy a specialty carburetor adjustment screw driver to adjust those "non adjustable" carbs
i don't know if you finished watching the video.i use those connectors on any carb screw no tool.
yeah, he quite clearly showed us a tip on how to NOT require the special tools... watch the video before commenting! :)
I did watch the entire video and I dont have any nor can I find those connectors anywhere. The $20 tool will last you years while the plastic connectors will stretch and fall off in a few months or they will tear if you do not have to correct size screw driver or they become brittle and just break so why bother spending the $20 over time and being frustrated than spend the money right then and there and never have to worry about it again
ian martin they are just standard crimp on but connectors.
The 'special' screwdriver is about $5 from Amazon.
You don't say which way you're turning the screww

I lost my throttle control on my poulan pr4016
Started off ok. Then for some reason he decided to let the chainsaw take over the instructions
Yeah, I came here hoping to get some information about mine that runs instead of idling. The video of the electrical connectors is so blurred you can't see very good, And it would be helpful to know which way to turn instead of just saying" adjust the screw".
sure would cut better if chain not on backwards.
