Defeating Flammole with Two Model PX Shurikens

    Here's some in-depth explanation regarding the shuriken for those who are interested.
    The shuriken deals 1 damage every 4 frames when its collision box is overlapping with an enemy's hit box. If it hits an enemy or destructible object before reaching its full thrown range with overdrive buff, the damage for first tick is increased from 1 to 5.
    Now the shuriken disperses if it deals 6 instances of damage ticks within the span of 21 frames, but the 6-hit counter will refreshes itself if it misses one damage tick. The trick to shuriken loop is to avoid dealing all 6 hits within that short span of time so it doesn't disperse.
    Hitting any enemy hit box will always deduct the 6-hit counter, even if the target isn't receiving damage. The only exception to this is when the hit priority value is exceeded and requires enemy's i-frames to reset by waiting it out.

      For anyone that wants a good example of the 6-hit counter in action, go to 00:15 and play the video frame-by-frame. You'll see that the Shuriken hits Flammole twice, then escapes the range of his hitbox for 10 frames. This is more than enough time to refresh the counter. Afterward, the Shuriken hits Flammole 6 times in a row without pause, and so it dissipates.

    Imagine thinking the shield throw was such a good option in the previous games that you had to nerf it so much. What?? I can't believe they neutered it to such a degree, this must have been absolutely insufferable to get perfect. Mad props to you, your clips never fail to awe me.

      I'm glad you enjoyed it! Insufferable is a great way to describe this. I'm just as puzzled at the degree to which Inti felt the need to restrict the Shuriken's potential. I can stomach the relatively low damage and the combo value system mandating that you throw two of them to win, but I find the "disappearing" mechanic entirely indefensible.

      Thank you! It took an incredibly long time for all the necessary factors to come together and create this successful attempt. Even I'm unsure of the exact number of attempts, just that it was an absurd amount.

    The run itself is very impressive, and the detailed description going into full detail regarding the issues of the Shuriken that make this incredibly difficult even when compared to Shield Boomerang single throw runs is also really well written and well-researched. Great job!

    Nice gameplay and skills! Even though Model Px is my least favourite to play, and probably the weakest among the other models. Doesn’t really suit my playstyle I’m afraid.

      I didn't really use Model PX in my proper ZX run, but I did use Model P a lot more in ZXA. Given my recent obsession with Shield Boomerang challenges, I knew I had to give something like this a try.

      @@DZ-Three I see. I just wish the normal shuriken would do more damage, but sadly the damage doesn't stack since bosses in both ZX & ZX Advent triggers i-frames too quickly.

      ​@@leongyuhinleong One thing that could've benefitted PX damage-wise is having access to a melee weapon, even a relatively weak one. Phantom does have a katana, so it's a bit odd that there's no hint of that in either ZX or ZXA.

      @@DZ-Three Yeah. That kind of limits its usefulness of Model Px. Aside from seeing in dark areas with your Radar Scope. Kunais can have a maximum to 4 damage with each successful hit. The Shield is meh, so-so, while Overdrive Shadow Dashing is cool, kind of like Zero 3 one or X8 Hermes Leg part.
