1979 C3 Corvette Birdcage Rust Prevention With POR15 - Part 1

In this video, I tear apart the interior completely in order to coat the birdcage on my 1979 C3 Corvette with POR15. This 1979 Corvette sat for 20 years with a leaky t-top so rust was expected, luckily it sat in California so the rust is not too horrible. I knew my corvette had some issues, but in this video we tear apart the interior and remove the dash to get to the bottom of the extent of the rust damage, and then we begin coating it with POR15.

Nice work! You are going to want to pull that glass out...with that pitted rust, you might have bigger issues behind it, especially in the corners.

Agreed. Will get back to it once I have the time to tackle that. I’m fully expecting to need to replace some metal, but I’m not equipped to do that currently
Just wanted to slow the rust down so I can continue enjoying it for now :)

Yours is not the first OUTSTANDING use of PO-15. It makes me wish I had a rusty old car to use it on 😆🤣! In your case...it's almost a shame you have to cover it with the dash. As you have doubtless have told, however, POR-15 breaks down in the Sun's UV rays. Let the dash protect the POR-15, therefore. That metal will outlast...us! This Corvette could be rolling down the road when Mr. Fusion power becomes the thing in the 22nd century. Aloha and take care!

I’m really impressed with POR-15. It’s cheaper than powder coating, so eventually I’ll get the entire frame and suspension components coated, eventually… :)
