How to plant on a rock (Schefflera and Rubber Plant)

My mini plant project in this video is about transferring them to a lava rock and let them thrive in it instead in their usual soil. This gives a rustic and jungle vibe. It is surely a great treat to your home interior!

Will the roots unable to grow freely?

I have an umbrella plant on a volcanic rock and the roots aren't unable to grow - they just grow differently. Mine has put out a bunch of other roots that grow down the sides of the rock and circle around it loosely in the water in the tray below.
