It's nice to hear that you liked stage of Luke Black. He actually dedicated the song and the performance last night to all of the Serbian people who are suffering right now. 😢 After everything that happened in Serbia, he wasn't so happy to sing. I think all of that together influenced his performance.
Also, Luke is actually an amazing singer who is trained to sing opera. His songs are so amazing and different. Emotions he brings are just amazing. He has some ballads, some similar this, covers of the other songs and one ethno song. Play the piano and guitar.
He is doing music for ten years. He didn't performed much. He decided to fight all of his fears and show people that if he can do it, everyone can.
    I hope you read this.

I had so much fun watching. I loved Sweden, Finland, Czechia, and Croatia. Norway was also incredible (she was the right choice to open)! Right now Croatia actually has the most views (at 1.1 million at the time of writing this) so I think it was well received!

Portugal was so good! Did you hear and see the same performance as all of us??? Mimicat was amazing and her voice was amazing! For a voice coach you should know this but hey, you do you! Love Mimicat 12 points from 🇬🇧 UK

Serbia went through really hard tragedy recenty. 13 yo boy shot and killed his 8 classmates and a school guard. He wounded 7 kids and his history teacher. Serbia is mourning and Luke himself said that he finds it really difficult to perform while his country is falling apart. I think he’s so brave and his message at the end of performance gave me chills when he said that he loves Serbia. Rest in peace little angels.

Your dislike of Croatia's song is so funny... you described exactly how I feel about Moldova's (seen before song, mediocre performer, great costumes). Love the Croatian one, though! Those mama and tractor double entendres are so smart... they somehow manage to convey the whole message in a way that can be shown on Eurovision without breaking any rules. Genius!
And so sad for Latvia... would swap it for Moldova if I could...

Exactly so and music and lyrics are also superb! But I guess it's hard for short-sighted people that are prone to usual ESC shallow trash to grasp something that's much more complicated and with serious music arrangement and context!
After all that demands a lot more effort!

How can you say that Portugal (Mimicat) was out of breath; I didn't see that and I have rewatched it. Norway (Alessandra) was more out of breath and you didn't mention it. + Mimicat has to dance and sing at the same time. She has one of the best voices in the competition and I thnk you are underestimating Portugal massively! Unfortunately not everyone understands and appreciates real music and for me it seems like you have a bit of a bias.

    • @renatopinto3186
      @renatopinto3186 ปีที่แล้ว

I have to agree, Mimicat sounded a bit strained at points, particularly at the beginning but then, all the choreo / trotting around are quite demanding on the lungs. She put on one hell of a show nonetheless.
Alessandra tho, was soundly struggling too, and it's odd it isn't mentioned. I think the kind of song just muffles her so much she has to go for a starker tone (not her natural range) to keep up. But I think she did well too.
And to both of their defense, all the pre partying performing, rehearsals, nervousness and whatnot are bound to take some toll.

I’m thinking the same. Portugal was vocally amazing and not out of tune. Norway was not that great, comparing the whistle sound from MGP to here it’s a downgrade for me at least. I’m shocked she liked Israel and said that winner vibes when I heard that she was rushing sounds and was a few times out of tune, as well as dancing tooooo muchhhh without singing. Yeah was show but… thank God she said that France was out of tune. If she would’ve said that France was amazing I would’ve become suspicious of my heating or of hers 🫣😅 no offence

Hey Georgina, I respect your knowledge and your work. However, being the "honest vocal coach" I would expect you to be more honest with your critique. I appreciate you say that the Portuguese singer was out of breath, which she probably was. But you seem to have only positive comments for Norway, when she was quite sharp throughout the song, and especially her "epic" high note was rather disappointing, as it was sharp by almost a semitone. I wish you had the same standards for all your comments, I really do not understand why you seem to go after certain songs this year :(
Anyway, enjoy the rest of the contest! I'll keep watching your videos :)

I don’t get it either. I’m not a singer or a vocal coach, so I respect her professional opinion, but c‘mon, both Israel and Norway were out of tune quite a bit, and she said that they were perfection, but Mimicat who was miles ahead of these two in terms of singing wasn’t good enough? Naah, that just doesn’t compute in my brain.

When I first saw Sweden's Loreen with tattoo, I thought well that's the winner let's just crown her now. But after watching the semi final I think it is no longer in the bag for Sweden. There are some happy memorable songs and over the top acts. That Croatia song! When I first heard and saw that I thought what the hell. But it sticks in your head and it is that weird and crazy you look forward to seeing it. I wouldn't be surprised if that ends up in the top 5.

I must say, Croatia has really grown on me. I didn't really like it in the beginning, because I didn't understand the moustache reference. But reading a little into it, it's now one of my favorites. They say the song is on purpose a kind of fever dream, as an anti war statement. They sing it's psychopathic to want to go into war. The absurdness, the horror of it, that's why the song and the act are so weird. It's like, war is so bad, you can't even talk about it. Also I think the guy really sings amazingly every time, in my opinion. I'm super sad Dion and Mia didn't make it through. And I think Kaarija will win in the end.

Norway and Finland were the perfect opening and closing, Serbia is my country so ofc I loved the song, especially now after all of the tragedies, the lyrics just hit differently 😔 But the biggest surprise for me was Israel! Hi Georgina, don't normally comment but I was lucky enough to be in the arena for both previews so have some insight.
Ireland was the same at both previews and yes, it sounded almost identical when he stopped singing. Clearly singing over his own pre recorded voice when he wanted to.
Malta went down well in the arena and had loads of energy. I think staging let it down.
Portugal was perfect both times vocally.
Israel was better in both previews, her voice was tense live I thought.
Croatia was amazing in the arena and his vocal spot on. Went down well and everyone was singing.
Loreen...OMG her vocal in the arena was incredible. She had no backup vocals, she belted the whole thing live...goosebumps!
You will have a ball on Thursday it's such an amazing experience!!!

Hi Georgina, love you channel! I admire what you do and whatch your videos very often.
I listened to you opinions about Mimicat. Although I think she's an amazing singer and an even better performer, as a choir teacher, I get what you say about her voice sounding somewhat tight and like sometimes she seems strugling. However, I thing it is greatly related to phonetics of European Portuguese. We do have a very tight sound, very risen larinx and very soft consonant articulation.
To sing in our native language, when singing in other genres other than traditional (like fado), it's challenging. If we sing with a classic/operatic opening, it souds foreigner; if we sing like we talk, it sounds odd, out of tune and the head voice just doesn't "ring".
But anyway, also not my favourite entry, but I feel very proud to be represented by such a tallented artist! 🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹

I think the main reason why Luke looked a little awkward on stage is because of the mass shooting that happened recently in Serbia which shook the Serbian delegation during the rehearsals. You can clearly that in Luke's composure.
Ireland's last part of the chorus was kinda playback, I've listened to the instrumental. He kinda lets the band and or the playback sing it for me and in this semi, it really shows so much.
I honestly don't care about Rita Ora too. I don't even know who the hell she is. And no, she is not possessing my bodyy.

Hello Georgina, I liked the Ireland song, but the moment it started, you could see there was something wrong, he looked like he either wasn't ready or the realisation of performing for Eurovision hit him. It looked like he wasn't sure which camera to look at. And he would move the mike away and was still singing. It was weird, sometimes you can pick it up through the camera that something was off. Good song, shame they never got through

      @sheila6186 ปีที่แล้ว

His singing was unpleasant to listen to -- his vocals were all stuck in his nose and throat, and his vocal tone was almost non-existent. They could have done more with the staging too. It was just him out front trying to work all that stage space in an unflattering, ill-fitting sparkly gold jumpsuit. Their performance and song were dull compared to the other acts.

I liked their calm style and I know you said they didn't interact with an audience which i didn't mind that much, but that is quite important. • @rtg7h
    @rtg7h ปีที่แล้ว +3

Okay let's go through some things, some i agree, some i don't, some I'm just adding.
    1) 🇲🇹 there's NO swear word in Malta! The word he sais is "Fogged up". For someone that seems to pay so much attention to the lyrics like you do, I find it surprising you didn't check this one...
    2) 🇵🇹 You've always made it clear you aren't the biggest fan of the song. But when analyzing vocals, i think you're definitely biased towards your favorites. Norway's Alessandra was more out of breath that Mimicat all the way through the performance but i guess you love that song so no comment there.
    3) 🇨🇭 I'm very glad you appreciate Switzerland! I think he was vocally flawless and that is something I've always agreed with you on
    4) 🇲🇩 After Moldova, you've already said you didn't expect it to qualify, like Serbia, Portugal and Croatia. At this point I'm wondering if you expected 10 to qualify or less
    5) 🇳🇱 Agree that their vocals were good and well done. And definitely agree they had no chemistry, although i do think the song would've qualified if they didn't do all these vocal changes, in comparison to the studio version
    6) Agree about the extra songs. Although... I think Rita Ora did amazingly and even if I'm not a fan of the new songs, i think she did a very very good show

I completely agree with the comments you made about Loreen’s stage production in Liverpool being a little bit lackluster compared to Sweden. It definitely looks like she’s standing on a shoebox and the camera angles aren’t as intimate and well placed either. Not to mention how they removed the Berber tattoo flashing part as the hits the bridge , as the upper podium lifts.

i was almost gonna be with you there about Malta, until i looked up the lyrics for the song - It acutally says "Fogged up" because hes a bit tipsy from the booze at the party.

As an irish person I completely agree. He seemed to forget it was a song contest and was playing to the crowd sometimes singing into the mic sometimes not. They are a good band and have supported big bands but they looked lost.

Israel had the worst vocals. It was basically a non-song sung off-key with an awesome dance break at the end that made you forget the sh*****w you just watched.

I disagree on Malta, they completely shocked me, it was one of the most energetic of the night and I really thought it would qualify instead of Serbia.
That performance is just unsettling and creepy, especially on the first listen, Luke Black also doesn't really sing, it's more of a whisper.

I had 0 doubts Moldova would qualify with televote only. They tend to do very well with televote, especially when they had an ethnic song.

Thanks for that comment. I´m from Sweden and would really like to praise the finns song but I feel it is impossible. I guess I just don´t like this kind of "music". The swiss song with a very important pacifictic message in these days was a positive surprise as it akso was good music well presented !

I saw the semi final preview which was phenomenal. Having got back from the preview of semi final 2 Hannah Waddingham is definitely the star presenter. Portugal brought the house down on Monday. Ireland singer looked terrified and his ear piece wasn’t working on Monday. I predicted 9/10 - Switzerland got in when I preferred Netherlands but again on Monday the Swiss guy had a much better voice. I believe Croatia have sung nude on stage before now so be thankful for the pants. The staging worked in the arena. The interval act with Rebecca Ferguson was tear jerking emotional. Fantastic show and the fake qualifying sections we got were hilarious. The thing I liked as well, is seeing the two evening previews we are the only people to see full live performances of all 37 songs and they have all been brilliant. Yes France did miss a couple of notes but the plinth is brought lower after the first section. It was so funny seeing her being trundled on and off stage to great cheers from the audience.

8:45 - Disagree with this whole heartedly it was a mid performance her notes were off and she sounded more out of breath than mimicat did not to mention she doesn't sing the last minute of it. Great dancer but this just isn't a dancing contest. Also the song itself is super generic

Oh was that a red feather on the portugal singer's armpit? I thought she had cut herself shaving lol. I was very heartbroken about Netherlands because their song made me emotional and I would have wanted to see it again in the finale.

2:24 Idk if you meant the part when he sings
"Wait now, can you speak up
    It's a little bit loud
I'm a little bit lost, oh
    Fogged up"
because I also thought that he sang fucked up, but after I looked at the lyrics, turns out, I missheard it

I think the audio quality of the broadcast was quite bad at the beginning, especially during Serbia's entry. I could barely hear Luke at all. But it was even worse in semi 2. There were many songs with bad audio throughout the whole semi 2.

I think we mostly agree. I love Serbia though. I was really worried for him though because he was so quiet in the mix. I don't know if it was that he couldn't hear himself, if it was the mix, if it was nerves, but there were a couple of performers where I felt the vocals were too low in the overall mix. I loved Netherlands studio version, but I didn't like that arrangement. I loved Malta but their staging wasn't great. Latvia would be the one I would switch in and switch Croatia out.
Enjoy Eurovision tonight! I hope you enjoy Voyager as much as I will be 😁
