    Mimicat’s voice was as allways really outstanding, didn’t understand the result apart from being a bit too different from a ballad or pop mainstream pièce of music… it was such a wonderfull mix !! Loved it ❤️❤️

      Loved her energy. There were so many acts explicitly trading on sex, really annoyed me - "Do you wanna see me dance?!" and Armenia caressing her nether regions while singing about panic attacks being the most egregious. There were some great acts who were a lot more subtle about it, or not even implying - like Mimicat! Also Austria, Lithuania, Norway and of course Sweden with always classy nature's child, Queen Loreen, and the strict and straight elegance of Spain and France. Mia and Nicolai too, just for the tension between them - I'm fairly sure they're not a couple, but damnit, aren't they incredibly cute together?!

    Loreen's performance was exceptional, soulful, and emotive, which is evident from the fact that she won the competition. Her vocals were powerful and her stage presence was captivating. She put her heart and soul into the performance, and it is unfair to criticize her for simply winning a competition that is based on the merits of the performance.
    Hate and negativity have no place in the world of music, and it is important to celebrate the diversity and talent that each artist brings to the stage. Instead of focusing on hate, we should focus on the positive impact that music has on our lives and how it brings people from different backgrounds and cultures together.

      Käärijä botched the singing part of the song, it'd been sharp up until the final. He'd definitely have gotten more 12s if he got that right - he was technically impressive even though I really didn't care for the song. The conspiracy theories are such a toxic garbage fire. Loreen was the only one that gave me goosebumps and glued me to the screen. Shes just another level ❤
    If you noticed on TV her performance was done more like a music video with all the cameras recording very close and focusing on her from different angles mainly, while they shown the stage and the audience only 1 second and at the very end of the song

    • @RebeccaEd
      @RebeccaEd ปีที่แล้ว

      Loreen did great and the performance was visually stunning - but, it makes me worry that this sort of "music video that happens to be filmed on stage" will become the norm. I would prefer it stays a live show performance, where we TV viewers can feel how amazing it is to be at the venue (like what Måneskin absolutely succeeded in).
      Of course camera angles and everything has always mattered, but hope you get what I mean?

    Me and my friend went to the grand final jury show, and it was just amazing (Mae won the fake vote so at least we won something 😂, though her vocals were a lot better in that show than the preview of her rehearsal). We also went to the Eurovision village for the grand final screening the day after and apart from getting sunburnt because there was literally no shady spots, it too was amazing to be there singing (or more shrieking) the songs with everyone else. Also reacting to the points there was audible gasping when Spain, Austria, and the UK got their shocking televote results… and the fireworks at the end, my friend said she was almost crying when they started. It was an amazing unforgettable experience our first Eurovision and I don’t care that I’ve spent way too much money the past few days, it was worth it. ❤

    with the mic being totally quiet, her lack of stage presence and the fact that she clearly finds it difficult to sing live, I’m not surprised UK finished bottom of the rankings. Not a million percent sure about how the jury decides who to vote for but I was sure we’d get more jury votes as a thank you you know😂

    • @IQzminus2
      @IQzminus2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The thank you points concept would be logical.
      But usually the hosting country gets really low points, even if they send a very strong entry.
      It’s common they get less points then you would expect if the song was sent by any one else.
      But usually the hosting country is the winner. And I think that whole less points thing useally is because I guess not having the same country winning maybe 3 times in a row or something.
      So I don’t think that should apply, but idk.

      Yes, sad to see so much hate, when we had so many great songs and Ukraine and the UK put on a great show for us.
      Loreen live performances really is something quite special, and just from a technical skill point of view at a winner level.
      like she has shown before and she showed it again.
      I was happy to see that Finland actually did pretty good with the jury, 4th for the jury. I though his staging, choreography and the number was really well done so I was happy to see the judges show approbation for it.

Never have I ever seen such a hate storm! Like, I thought the Chanel-stans last year were bad (I liked the song tho), but Israel and Finland this year… horrible fans!

    'Finland lyrics are bonkers' I think you maybe just misundersand them a lot. There's a lot of cultural background to it. Finnish people in general are very introverts and it can take a LOT of effort to put ourselves out there. The song talks about becoming the version of yourself not scared of the social interactions, the other people and just dancing away the night. It's actually a lot more positive and meaningful lyrics than Loreen. Sorry you did not understand them. Finnish is a very small language with only 5 million Finnish speakers.

      I thought the lyric were a very clear message that was acted out in superb choreography. The televote got this absolutely spot on with Finland. I like Loreen as a person what she stands by in terms of belief. I like her voice but everything about the presentation looked like a second helping of Euphoria served up un-thawed from the deep past. This will not go down as a memorable win. Stage performance did look like a waffle maker. The best vocal was Estonia and the best show was Finland and they deserved the win.

      Because a lot of people love R n’ B, and their staging was one of the best, if not the best. R n’ B isn’t for me, and so, my favorite part of the song was when it had the strings towards the end, but I know a ton of people who love and rave about the song. There were plenty of people listing it in their faves, and many said it was underrated. So, it’s not surprising at all.

    I really like "Помню" (I remember), "Жизнь продолжается" (Life goes on), "Перечекати" (To wait out), "Ніжно" (gently), "Твої гріхи" (Your sins), "Я всё ещё люблю" (I still love) etc.

    Great recap! I do agree with you to the most part. But I loved Lithuania and i think that song was so much about the lyrics and people nowadays don't like when they have to work in order to get something. Croatia, i thought it was just a disturbance when i saw the video, but on stage i was actually moved by the strength of their message about Putin and Belarus, they really meant what they were doing. Just because crazy representations in ESC is accepted does not mean that they define Eurovision Song Contest, to everyone out there.

    Thanks Georgina for all your reactions throughout this Eurovision season. I'm not a singer and can't really judge too much on vocal quality, but for me the standout vocalists were Remo from Switzerland, Blanca Paloma, Monika from Lithuania and Mimicat.
    What I did want to briefly mention is the lyrics. Here I disagree with you slightly - I find the Armenia lyrics a bit cheesy 'drink smoothies at near cafes' - at our party were were laughing so much at that line, and the way she sang dogoobegoologoo. :)
    On the other hand, I personally find the Belgian lyrics so deep and meaningful - especially as a queer person. The fact that in the LGBTQ+ community we are put into boxes of the 'type of gay you are' or the like, and Gustaph was really able to emphasise that we shouldn't be putting anyone, LGBTQ+ or others into boxes, with simple but effective lyrics, was really fantastic. Yes, it's about being yourself, but it's also about not judging anyone by a cover. I'll give you a universal example - I wear hippie trousers because they are comfortable, breathable and I like wearing them (my Mum told me to take them off the other day because 'people were going to be coming in, and it was the first time I had the courage to stand up to her and say 'no'). I am in no way a hippie, but I'm lumped into a box because I like those comfortable trousers.
    Gustaph really resonated with me through those lyrics and that message and stopping putting anyone into boxes and stop letting people dictate to you about the box you're in, and actually this Eurovision season because of his lyrics, his song and joy, I was able to just forget about all the boxes people put me in and be who I wanted to be. The words may be simple, but the message is far from generic if you look a little deeper into it.
    Otherwise, thanks again for your reactions and adding an extra dimension of the vocals that I certainly wouldn't understand myself.

    We have a worthy winner. The song wasn't my cup of tea, but I rarely like the ESC winners the best anyways. Loreen is a great performer, a talented artist and she gave her everything, and for that, she won.
    I'm from Finland, and I'm super proud of Käärijä for giving a historically high score, he did great even with the jury vote, despite of not being the strongest singer. It did upset me to see so many amazing songs (my favourite Slovenia included, Joker Out was my kind of music, done perfectly) get such low scores from the juries. We have such diversity in the songs and artists today, and I was hoping for more recognition to Spain, Portugal, France and Albania for their stellar performances in their native languages. Also the songs, which were huge hits outside of the live show, Norway, Austria, Germany and the UK. Australia was also amazing, and with Slovenia, will stay in my playlists and my heart.
    The show was amazing. We all won by getting to be united by music. In the end, the main point of ESC is to enjoy music, have a great show, and come together. Someone always gets 1st place, but we have enough love for all the artists, right? ❤

  • @alfje5492
    @alfje5492 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Every year you get these same comments (especially in the UK): we get no pints because Europe hates us. Which is rubbish, it's just a simple numbers game: there are 26 songs and every country can give points to 10 of them. Even if the jury and televote are completely different, that's still only 20 songs that get points, so you'll always have 5 to 10 songs that don't get many points.
    The UK song, like Austria f.ex. wasn't in many people's top 10, so didn't get many votes.
    There's of course some politics and migrants voting for their country of origin (f.ex Germany always giving plenty of points to Turkey), but in the end if your song is popular, it'll get votes.

    I’m really surprised that once again you pointed out the pitchiness of Jeremy from Tvrochi, and this is fair, but by the same token, how do you not point out the pitchiness of Loreen and Noa in the first half of their songs? As a professional teacher, you cannot seriously tell me that you couldn’t hear it. Loreen was totally off tune during the low notes, and her enunciations were terrible, while Noa was completely off when she partially sang acapella, the whole “power of a unicorn” part. Yes, both their overall performances were good, but not the singing. If you’re going to point out singing in some acts, then as a coach, you need to be consistent in your critiques. On top of that, the Tvorchi guys found out a few mins before they performed that their hometown was hit with missiles, hence they held a sign “Ternopil( the name of their hometown” during the recaps. The fact that they were even standing on the stage after that was incredible. Would love to see how you or anyone could perform under those circumstances. Not that I’m saying you shouldn’t point out singing out of pity, but I don’t get the inconsistency from you. Even the Croatian guys killed the notes, and as funny as their performance is, their song isn’t easy to sing, and you didn’t talk about that either🧐 I’ve also noticed a bias in general with you for songs sung in English. Songs sung in someone’s native language, especially those with traditional/folk elements, almost never gets a positive review from you.

      @@d1sarmon1a Yup, she did. I’ve just noticed in general almost every time a song isn’t in English or it’s a traditional/ethnic song or it’s a non pop song, she either tends to completely ignore the singing or say it’s pitchy, but English-language entries, she is almost always positive about. I was hoping it’s a one-off thing, but now I’ve noticed it over multiple videos and Eurovision years. It’s, of course, ok to not like such music, but the constant praising of English songs and singers, even when they are completely off-tune, but constantly dissing those singing in their national languages, has really irked me.
      Oops, that’s what happens when I type late at night and do not re-read my comment. Stupid autocorrect. I’m in Ukraine, so I def know he’s Jeffrey, lol. I’ve edited it.

    Well Georgina I would like to thank you for all your posts over the past months, you made 2023's Eurovision so engaging and I look forward to watching you in 2024.
    I was disappointed in the end (from Australia) found the sound quality of ALL the performances (semi finals and final) coming through my TV really poor... I could hear the hosts, and booth announcers really well, but most acts could barely be heard through the mic.
    I looked back to 2019, and the stark difference in the decisions about sound mix coming through the broadcast was clear. In 2019 the rules were all about the voice being produced on stage, and 2023's overall presentation was weak and disappointing by comparison.
    So many of the artists didn't deserve to even be there... Poland was clearly awful from the outset, the UK and Denmark both vocally dreadful all along... And mysteries like Serbia getting through even though he almost failed to sing... It was such a weird experience.
    I'm quite aware this could be somehow something that happened to broadcast in Australia... But I had to turn up the TV for the acts, and turn it down for the hosts...
    So all the acts look worse than they maybe were... I don't know.
    I hope the organizers go back to the stringent requirements for the vocals to be produced in stage in real time again. It's less interesting to watch if you can't trust who is singing what.
    And, as for jury voting... I simply don't believe that Loreens song was that much ahead of the next offering as to get such a lead on points... If the juries are meant to offer balance, there was none.... And I simply do not think Loreens song was five times better than any other (which is what points would indicate)...
    The hosts and staging and entertainment were all pretty stupendous.
    Did anyone else find the sound quality strange?

    • @roylu8553
      @roylu8553 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I found the sound quality strange too. I had to turn the volume of the songs louder, but it was still very strange, as one could barely hear them singing, but at the Commercials and when the Hosts were talking, without changing the volume on the TV, it was very loud.
      I like Sweden, but to me it was not the best song; and Austria was clearly robbed a better position, and especially Austria got a very unfair running order, being 2nd in the Semi Final 2. Loreen was also "only" 2nd in the Semi Final 2, but got a very good running order, but Austria as 1st, it was almost clear, that "we" would be only way behind other participants.
      Sweden should have started first and I am sure, she would have won also; but Austria with running order 9 would have gotten a by far better place in the Final

    Huge fan of the channel but I have to disagree with Loreen deserving to win. From the get go it was setup for Loreen to win. The whole showing which countries had won the most at the beginning and next year being ABBA's 50th anniversary of their win and Sweden's first win I feel had more to do with her winning than her actually earning the win. On top of that Sweden received no 12 point scores from any of the countries in the public vote. The majority of her scores were middle 4-7 range. Finland surprisingly didn't give her any points in the public vote. Loreen has an amazing voice and she gave a great performance but I didn't think it was the best song. Norway deserved the win more based on performance and vocal ability but the public chose Finland and they should have the final say not these unknown unseen mysterious juries.

      This theory doesn’t hold up AT ALL because she flopped with ”Statements” a few years ago - didn’t even make it to the finals 🤷🏻‍♀️ They were never 100% certain she’d make it through to Eurovision! Sweden has a rigorous voting process with several quarter finals, one semifinal & then the Grand Final. IF she’d been handpicked (like some countries go about) I’d also be suspicious. She was not! She had to go through the quarter finals & grand final (Melodifestivalen) to even make it to Eurovision in the first place 🤷🏻‍♀️ The fact that it’s the 50th anniversary for ”Waterloo” is just a happy coincidence…

      Of course you have to disagree. Not surprised. Many of those who think that Finland deserved to win are so easily fotled by finns.
      Both the Swedish jury and the viewers generously gave Finland 12 points. In Finland, the jury gave their twelfth to Sweden - while the viewers seemed to have come together in a pact and zeroed (!) Loreen, despite "Tattoo" being a big hit in Finland. Actually fascinating. That juries voted tactics has happened many times, but I can't remember such a clear example of an entire nation's viewers unanimously lowering a contribution. It says something about the impact Käärijä had in Finland, and how much people wanted to see him win.
      But karma is a bitch i guess..
      They sure got what they deserved. They sure are bad losers.

      Saying Norway has a better performance than Sweden is laughable. Norway sent a very tiktok-friendly viral song hence the high televote but Alessandra was not the strongest live and the performance and staging is very simple, while Loreen had amazing and innovative staging and her vocals were on point the whole time too.
      The juries have always been a part of Eurovision and are there specifically to balance out the televote as the jury voters and televoters have different voting priorities and criteria often. It is a SONG contest, not a POPULARITY contest and the songs are equally judged on technical performance as well as how popular they are. Not to mention Loreen came 2nd in the televote which is still a very high score, meanwhile Finland only came 4th in jury. The fact that every country besides Finland voted for Sweden in the televote just shows how universally beloved her song was by fans, which not only disproves your theory that it was rigged or people only voted for abba, but also proves why she deserved to win.
      I also disagree the show was rigged for her. Finland actually got a much better spot in the running order for starters. Sweden was the favourite to win from day 1 and everyone always knew she would sweep the jury vote with her vocals and performance. The showing which countries had the most wins was in order to reference Luxembourg returning and Sweden was not mentioned once. It's also ridiculous to claim that people voted for Sweden and Loreen just because ABBA's 50th anniversary win, most Eurovision viewers are not only dedicated fans who were likely unaware of that fact but even hardcore fans do not care enough for Abba to rig a whole contest or vote for Sweden specifically for abba - it seems like a copout excuse from bitter fans in order to make themselves feel better that their favourites sadly lost.

      I am sure Kaarija will be okay because he has won the public's hearts over. Maybe he will perform in Sweden next year.

    There were no backing vocals on Mae Muller as there had been a problem with it earlier in the week (for some reason, there was a male voice on it that no-one knew where it had come from!) so the production team decided to scrap it. That's why her voice was weak.

    I am from Poland. Maybe Blanka sounds better in Liverpool than in Warsaw, but... still no.
    We really should have let Jann to go to the contest. That would be TOP 5! Or TOP 10!
    I also like TOP 3 of the funniest songs at this Eurovision- AUSTRIA, CROATIA -but FINLAND...It was some other state of mind ;)

      Poland should have been outright disqualified for that move. Pure nepotism, and typical conservative discrimination against anybody different. Not very "united by music" of them. 🤬
