  • Being a pregnant foreign worker in Japan can make anyone anxious. Among a gazillion other things, the allowed duration of maternity leave and the state of your finances during that said downtime can be a cause of much confusion - it sure was for me!
    So today, I would like to talk about the points listed below. More details on my blog: thatjapanlife....
    1. When maternity leave can be taken
    2. What is Japan’s 出産手当金 (“shussan teatekin”) or maternity allowance
    3. Who are qualified for the maternity allowance
    4. How much maternity allowance can be received
    5. Procedures for securing your maternity allowance
    6. When you can expect to receive your maternity pay

      shalom abit Very happy you found it useful. Yes, I am planning on making a video about Child Care Leave as soon as I experience it first hand and get a better understanding of it. This week, I am also coming up with a video about my delivery in a Japanese hospital, maybe you’ll find that informative as well. 💕

To be exact my supposed due date was June 13 but I gave birth 5 weeks early, May 11. Hope you can answer this! Thank you

    Thank you for the information. I would like to ask if after your maternity leave. Do you received letter from your local government that you need to pay tax, indicating the total amount. Given the fact that you are not receiving any pay during your maternity leave still you need to pay? Please enlighten me regarding this matter. Hope to hear from you. Thank you in advance

    • @ThatJapanLife
      @ThatJapanLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Yes. I did need to pay an 'inhabitant tax', the amount of which, as I understand, depends on your salary. In my case, however, my company volunteered to handle the processing of that. What I did was just deposit the necessary amount monthly to my company's account and they handled the rest.
