    -Download Putty (for the Telnet portion): www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~s...
    -Download PMCA-GUI from here: github.com/ma1co/Sony-PMCA-RE...
    The steps are summarized below:
    1. Download PMCA-GUI app
    2. Connect camera to computer using USB cable
    3. Click "Get camera info" to ensure computer sees your camera
    4. Click "Install" tab
    5. There is a menu below, with a list of apps that can be installed. OpenMemories Tweak should be the first one. Select it. Then click Install button
    6. Wait for installation to complete (a few seconds)
    7. Remove USB cable
    On the camera...
    8. Go into camera menus, and find the Apps tab. Open OpenMemories Tweak
    9. In the video tab, disable record limit (box checked). A record time longer than 29m should now appear
    10. Go to the Developer tab
    11. Set up wifi using Wifi Setup button
    12. Use WPS to sync automatically or set up manually
    13. Click the Enable Wifi box
    14. Note the IP address of your camera (probably starts 192.xxx.,,,)
    15. Enable Telnet
    On the computer
    16. Start command prompt
    17. If your camera's IP address was 192.168.1.100, connect to it using
    telnet 192.168.1.100
    (Substitute your actual IP address in the expression above)
    18. You are now connected to your camera and talking directly to it. You need to make a small change to one of the settings. Make sure you type carefully. The 0 and 1 below are numbers not letters O and I.
    bk.elf r 0x01070a47
    and hit Enter
    This should display 01, which means it has camera overlays switched on, on the HDMI out. You'll change this to 00 in the next step, which turns overlays off. Type
    bk.elf w 0x01070a47 00
    and hit Enter
    To check, repeat the command below
    bk.elf r 0x01070a47
    and hit Enter
    It should now respond with 00. This confirms it's been done.
    19. Power down the camera and power up again
    20. Plug in an HDMI cable to the camera and screen
    21. Switch to Movie mode. You should see video output without any overlays
    AND THATS IT. Full Manual video mode is recommended so you can set the proper White Balance, ISO, and Exposure for your lighting.

      Thanks! What settings? Aside from autofocus settings, which are personal preference, for visual quality you just make sure the HDMI output in the camera settings is set to 1080p. That's all I did on the camera. In OBS you can color correct, sharpen, etc to however you desire to achieve the best look that your eyes perceive.

    Thanks so much for the tutorial! It’s really nice giving it another life instead of letting it sit in a drawer.
    I have it mostly working as expected but have encountered 2 smallish issues:
    1. With the HDMI plugged in, the camera turns on to a folder, which can be set under ‘view mode’. Is there a way to default it to just show the live video?
    2. The screen remains off (well, flickers for a second), then turns off) when powered on. Only when I press a button does it turn on. Any way to default this to on?
    Thanks again!

    • @CoalitionGaming
      @CoalitionGaming  ปีที่แล้ว

      Np.
      1. It should automatically start outputting video once powered on but sometimes you may need to half press the shutter button or go into menu and select movie mode then manual exposure again to get it going. If there is anything folder related, it sounds like you have USB plugged in so make sure you unplug that as it's not needed after you've followed this tutorial.
      2. The screen should be staying on, if it's turning off then it may be detecting something else or there is a screen timeout thing in a menu you need to check. Or it could be USB, so make sure USB is unplugged too.
      I haven't encountered any of the issues you've mentioned in any of the a5000s I've done this too (a few now) so it's hard to say what's wrong.

    Word of warning on the USB cable. It MUST support power AND data. I went thru 5 random cables before I found one that supported data transfer as well, oddly it was a USB cable from an old Beats headset I had that died. I'm guessing it worked because the Beats firmware was updateable.
    That camera I found yesterday for $275, I got them down to $225 since it had no charger or brick, but I've already ordered a dummy battery setup anyway. And I'm now waiting on the HDMI cables you recommended to get here so I see whether it worked or not.

    Helpful video! Am seeking a camera to take pix of, paper documents, proposals, labels and business documents - instead of scanning. The camera or webcam will also be used for teleconferencing with colleages via; Skype, Discord and Zoom. About 3-5 times per week. There will be no streaming, promotion need or focus on cosmetics, but it should be professional. My system is linux based with; i7 chip, 32gb ram, 2 SSD's, 750w and an older GB mobo (usb 3.1). No additional graphic card. The a5000 which you recomend seems appropriate, would it be your pick for the needs noted? Is it compatibile with linux? Perhaps using gphoto2-linux software? Thank-you.

      Your point is well taken. The phone is not ideal for snapping the items noted. Other needs include taking pix of; whiteboard, meeting notes, vistors, wireframes, prototypes, screenshots, interior product shots and product labels - along with documents. The task requires; getting angle right, centering, lighting and snapping.
      The cell/ scan may be fine for infrequent needs or for personal needs, but function and results are not enterprise grade. To date, have not succeeded without; fumblng, investing time to angles right, dropping the phone, accidentally hitting another icon and fussing with unresponsive touch screens. A tablet may work. The camera may not solve the probem either! Ideally, the camera would sit on my desk and serve the needs noted and (teleconferencing). My query is a bit oddball and not in your wheelhouse ~ no problem.

      I have other social media and discord, all linked in the description. There is a menu item on the camera itself that lets you select the HDMI output resolution, you may need to check that. You may also need to put your USB Capture Card in a different USB port and see if it behaves differently. Also make sure that the resolution of the video capture source in OBS is set to 1920x1080 in its properties.

    • @CoalitionGaming
      @CoalitionGaming  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on your lighting and color of light. You need to set your white balance to manual and adjust it to look right based off the lights you have, do the lowest aperture (f2.8 in the case of that 16mm lens), and the iso needs to be set based on how bright your lighting is. Usually around 400-1200, don't go too high with it. Shutter speed should be 1/60 and don't change it from that.

      @@CoalitionGaming best way to connect the a5000. I saw someone else just hook it up to obs w hdmi cable? Oo

    • @CoalitionGaming
      @CoalitionGaming  ปีที่แล้ว

      This would be the only way. You need to "hack" the a5000 to enable the clean HDMI output as detailed in this video, then you need an micro-HDMI cable (linked in description) and a capture card (linked in description) in order for OBS to pick it up. You can't just buy one then "hook it up to OBS w/ hdmi cable." That won't work.

      @@CoalitionGaming oh i see, what is a capture card?

    • @CoalitionGaming
      @CoalitionGaming  ปีที่แล้ว

      its linked in the description. Allows the HDMI output of the camera to be captured by the PC into a USB port. You can't "input" HDMI to a PC otherwise.

      Make sure your USB cable supports data and not just power. Try other cables if you have any.

      try cleaning the port on the camera. I saw someone comment they went through 5-6 cables before finding one that worked. Also, you mean the software for PMCA-GUI isn't finding anything right?

      The ones mentioned in the video...
      And now that you mention it, the new Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra. It's also $300. Also the Insta360 Link is pretty expensive too.

    Is it me or the only way to get sharp clean image is by pressing the record button? The default streaming looks like shit to me.

      That shouldn't change anything. What lens are you using with it? If it's a zoom lens, try zooming it in a hair. Some sony cameras have a feature called Clear zoom you may need to play with
