    I just wanted to say that I completed my setup using your guide today, and the whole thing only ran me about $280. A little more expensive than this video mentioned, but still very cheap compared to the A6400 I was using before, and the image quality is stellar with the Meike 25mm lens. I was able to do the camera hack with minimal fuss and I didn't have the issue you had with turning on the camera. I just turn it on and there's nothing to dismiss. Maybe it's a different camera firmware or something. Either way, incredibly stoked on this setup, thank you for sharing!

    Just setup a Sony a5100 and 35mm Fotasy f1.7 lens. The difference between a Logi Brio and this setup is not comparable. The Brio is a grainy potato in low light and the a5100 is crystal clear with no grain. The lens does amazing in low light, I can turn down the room lights and it looks amazing. Jeremy thank you for teaching us how to set all this up. You are the real mvp.

    Hi Jeremy. Thanks for these review and setup videos. I used my a6000 with your recommended budget setup. With the a6000 in movie or AP mode I had to press the shutter button every time I had a Teams meeting to start video. One time I had the Teams video on and forgot to press the shutter button and the OSD from the camera was showing on Teams which freaked a few people out. You mentioned a similar play button step on the a5100. Did you get any feedback on turning off this behavior? Thanks.

    • @DeployJeremy

      Hi Rob, my A5100 just needs to power on and clean HDMI runs by itself without the settings display. It's in manual mode, but the lens is manual, so it works with just power on. I never actually power it down, unless there is a power outage or something.

    @deployjeremy thank you for the video. May I have three questions...
    1) will it work with native lens 16-50mm f3.5-5.6?
    2) assuming that hdmi to USB module is required, once I connect it to computer I set a skype/teams To use it - all what's need to be done then is to power on camera?
    3) is it still two Steps process or all what needs to be done is to power on camera? Or still need to change it to Video etc etc.
    Appreciate!

    • @DeployJeremy
      @DeployJeremy  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi. Yes, I can answer those questions. 1. Yes, the kit lens works great. I also have one. 2. The camera can be powered using the normal battery, but you would need a dummy battery for constant power. So you have a. A micro HDMI to full sized HDMI cable. That's attached to the USB capture card, which in turn attaches to your PC or Mac. And b. The dummy battery coming off the camera and plugging into your AC wall socket. 3. There is no shortcut to turn it on that I've found. It's kind of annoying to be honest, but it's just two clicks. Hope this helps

    • @DeployJeremy
      @DeployJeremy  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @doorsmaker depends on the field of view you want and whether you want background blur. I use a Viltrox 23mm f1.4 lens with my primary Sony camera and it has very shallow depth of field and bokeh effect. I don't think the continuous autofocus is quite fast enough on the a5000 for the shallow depth of field where maybe 12 inches of depth are in focus, so your f3.5 is a lot more forgiving for webcam style use.

    Jeremy, early in the pandemic, I realized I had to adapt quickly, to keep my 30-year piano teaching practice afloat! How? Online …
    But, I had to do MUCH better than a basic webcam in a desktop Mac, or use a Macbook's built-in webcam. I needed cameras on my face, an overhead view of my piano, side views, a foot pedal view, and documents view on my iPad/Macbook ...
    Back in 2020, I researched DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, but opted for 1080p video cameras that could give me clean HDMI (Sony CX405, CX240 x 2, and Canon R800) … I use them, along with a few Apple TV 3rd gen (for iPads and MacBook) - via HDMI cables into 2 Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini Switchers (one cascaded into the other, for a total of 7 inputs)
    Recently, I’ve grown a bit disenchanted with lack of BOKEH ability of cameras, so I went back to researching DSLRs and mirrorless. But, I wanted to keep costs down …
    After a lot of research, I’m SO HAPPY to have run across this video! ... I’d been thinking about the Sony 5100, Canon m200, and a few others, but am enthusiastic about going for the Sony a5000 with the firmware upgrade ….

      @DeployJeremy  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @doorsmaker glad to hear that. It happens occasionally. I've had new unused faulty HDMI cables in event productions before where they are 50-100 feet runs under carpet and the only fix is to run new cables over carpet and tape them down. For mounting over the monitor, if your desk isn't a motorized standing desk, I would look into wall mounting brackets for cameras - if there is a wall behind it. That way if you bump your desk, the camera doesn't move. If you have a standing desk like I do, then you need sturdy desk clamp monopod style arms. For the dummy battery, the .8 volt over spec normally shouldn't be a problem. Car batteries for example are 12.6v normally, because they tend to have 6x 2.1v cells in series. A car alternator will often charge at 14.4 volts.

      You can connect it via micro USB to USB-A or USB-C (depends on what ports your Mac has) and for video in as webcam, it's micro HDMI to HDMI, then into capture card and you can get capture cards with USB-A or USB-C out.
