Being as decisive as this guy might actually be the way to go to avoid additional abuse. I've noticed that the some of only times women file for full custody is if the dude is at the stage of threatening to kill her, the kids and himself.
sure he could of done that, then he more then likely would of never gotten custody of his kid and his kid would of bounced around in the foster care system.
The OP's ex wife is making an effort to maintain a good relationship with her son and being there for him when he needs her the most,at least that's a good start and things will be civil in the long run and the OP's ex inlaws are more considerate of the outcome of the situation and are willing to be good grandparents to their grandson, good to go for them.
I guess it's really too much to ask for people to talk to their spouses for the sake of their relationships, let alone their own sanity. You could have saved yourself of all the BS, but no; go ahead and ruin your own life and behave as if you were above the consequences of your actions.
And she did all of that for what: ending her relationship with AP a few months after in a bad way (apparently) which caused her to be on a more self-destructing path, creating a trauma in her son to the point that he was wary of her, only having visitations rights, and not having anyone by her side except her parents... Yeah, not saying anything about her issues before the affair ŕeally was worth it.
“There’s been a growing connection between us, but I’m hesitant to explore it” “Explore it on Friday” 😃 But for real I’m happy the kid and OP is doing okay, the grandparents are horrible though
My understanding is grandparents' rights usually involve getting custody in the case of both parents' being deemed unfit, passing away, or voluntarily giving up the child. For a kid who's already destined for foster care anyway, grandparents can get custody rights. There are also some cases of grandparents petitioning for visitation in divorce cases but these are much less likely to be successful.

OP should've called CPS on her for abandoning the kid at school.

“I don’t know what the future holds but I’m cautiously optimistic” 🙄

You’d think AI would change up the phrasing
No one knows what the future holds 😂😂 I say that every time.
