    I bought an Alltrack in October, 2016. It was one of the first in the country - so early, in fact, that my insurance company did not even know the model existed. This is my sixth VW in a row, I love the brand. The Alltrack is great to drive, hauls groceries and is comfortable on long trips. After 17000 kms, I have few complaints about the car, except one, and as a VW fan, it pains me to say - the panoramic sunroof stopped closing. To close the roof it's normally a push of the button. In my case pushing the open/close button triggers the roof to slide closed, but it then automatically tilts. The sunshade won't close passed the last three inches. In order to properly close the roof from the tilt position I need to rock the open/close switch a bit at a time to slowly step the roof closed. Which brings me to the second complaint - believe it or not I brought it in for service, and asked to have the sunroof checked as it would not close. At the end of the day the technician handed me my keys and let me know they did not check the roof as it was closed when I brought it in. They had not even opened the roof and tried to close it. He informed me that the roof was now closed... Well yeah, thanks, I brought it in that way! Kind of makes you wonder what level of service VW techs are providing if they can't even diagnose a simply problem like the one I have. Imagine bringing your car in for engine noise and they never start the car to hear the noise...

      I can't see your whole comment for some reason (I can only see until "In my case pushing the"), so I'm not sure if you found a solution, but have you tried resetting the open/close positions. Most cars require a reset when the battery dies, so it might be as simple as that. Not sure how it is on VW, but on most cars, you hold the button to close the roof and continue to hold it for a few seconds after the roof is fully closed. Repeat for opening the roof. Once that's done, it should resume one click operation again.

      JJ Smith, ...and customer service to match...I just don't understand how, after all these years, VW still can't make a reliable VW. Hyundai had serious reliability issues early on, but they've addressed it. Kia is one of the most reliable brands now. People are so caught up in that "German engineering" nonsense that they're willing to buy their subpar products even if it hurts their pockets.

      Yep. I used to be a huge German car fan. I've owned multiple BMWs, Porsches and even an Audi (never a VW though). I loved those cars but I've switched to Japanese. The German cars need to be under warranty, and I can't afford German cars that new anymore, so forget it. They're great while they last, but they don't last and they are extremely pricey to repair. I've had my fill of BMW vanos issues, coolant system issues, Porsche IMS issues, timing belt fears, and Audi electrical issues. They can all kiss my ass (until I win the lottery).

      Subaru is good but here in Colorado, it’s considered a luxury car. They charge soooooooo much money for them. And I love German cars way more than Japanese ones cause they have longer warranty and engine is built to last! No offense but Japanese cars are boring and most of them are ugly!.....cough....Prius!!!!

    Fifth Volkswagen and owning this particular model in the SEL trim level for 3.5 years later…and going strong… I LOVE THIS CAR! I feel the same as the day I drove away from dealer! Truth be told, many mechanics have said to me that it is built and smarter than All-road and I’ve ALWAYS had confidence and reliability in every model VW ever owned. Admittedly have to say this has been hands down my favorite. Opinions from those with zero experience/knowledge of the VOLKS brand is just dust in the wind really… 🌬💨💨💨💨

    Had just purchased the Alltrack S model with the 6 speed manual. It is a very road worthy drive. After having owned the 2007 manual rabbit which was traded in for this vehicle, I must have been one of the VW owners that didn't experience the reliability issues that others were purported to have had. At 260,000 miles the Rabbit was one of the least maintenance heavy autos I had possessed. My other car is the 2013 TDI Sportwagen which has also had no problems. My wife wants to keep it, so will have it retrofitted to make it US compliant.
    I shopped and test drove both the Subaru Forester and the Alltrack base models. They are about the same size in volume. For the price, The base Alltrack had much more standard features than the similarly priced Forester. Plus the Forester was kind of a dog to drive and the infotainment system was somewhat obsolete.
    The upper trim models may contrast differently in price and features between VW and Sube. Comparing the base models with comparable features, the VW was a better deal.

    In the US you can buy the s model for 22k with a six-speed manual or get the DSG transmission for 23k. There is no comparing the driving dynamics of this car versus the Subaru Outback or Forester. You could eat a sandwich by the time you get to 60 miles per hour in either subaru but this car actually moves. It's quieter, handles better and is a step above in materials than the Subaru. And for the prices we pay it's less expensive than the surbaru with a much longer warranty bumper to bumper. It's a no-brainer.

    i just got my 135tdi alltrack with 7 speed dsg and it is pure awesome smooth(even tho i put on 19 inch rims with 35 profile tyres) everyone in north america it seems raves on about manuals... really? its cheaper sure but the dsg is such a good system in the wet clutch versions my 7 speed is smooth, driving it today i used the steering wheel paddles to change down 2 gears from 7th to 5th on the freeway my 2 passengers did not even notice till i pointed out the gear display!
    Its good that your getting the 8 inch display its a big upgrade
    Shame they are not releasing the active drivers display tho i find its really nice much better than the analog dials
    All in all i find it a great car (only thing i did not like was the silly silver mirrors esp on my tornado red changed them for carbon fibre ones looks much better)

      I got some fake carbon fiber ones for about 100 bucks Australian
      They were from china so i don't know how your mileage will go there now tho
      You can get genuine carbon fibre R model caps but they are very expensive
      Ebay was the way i got them
      Good luck its looks way better than the silver ones

    • @BigHeadClan
      @BigHeadClan 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      koiminx Usually they use a wet clutch, dry clutches typically less refined and noisier.

    • @inFAdepT
      @inFAdepT 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yea I asked because I find reports that dry dct then to be less reliable, ex. the hyundai's 7 speed DCT and the fords powershift. It seems like vw is the only manufacturer that offers a wet dct at a resonable price which seems more reliable.

    • @BigHeadClan
      @BigHeadClan 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aye most Dry clutches are slightly less reliable as having a wet clutch leads to better heat control/lubrication between the clutches also smooths out engagement.
      That said I don't think Dry DCT's are all that common and are usually used in lower powered motors
      so the wear and tear should be less.

    I’ll be purchasing this Alltrack with Allconfidence that it will not break down on me. Nothing against the Asian cars like Subaru or Mazda but my whole family owns a bunch of Japanese cars and it’s really starting to grow old on me to see them in their cars while I’m on roads trips with them. So to me, Asian cars is becoming a same old same old type of thing that it’s really getting tiresome. I want to be the first person in my family to break the streak on me owning a European car. 😘 🇩🇪

    I do dig the style, but I wouldn't spend that much in a million years and given VW's bad rep for scamming the public with their emissions scandal while intentionally polluting the world, and their piss poor reputation for reliability and oil burning, I wouldn't touch one with a 10 foot pole anyway. Shameful that the rear seats don't fold flat too. My 2001 PT Cruiser's did, as well as my 2007 Honda Fit. VW couldn't figure out how to design a flat folding rear seat for improved cargo capacity?
