There would be no book or movie if the character had just gone to therapy to heal from the childhood trauma
He was in therapy. Read the book.
In the books him being in therapy was a major plot point. She even goes with him to therapy
Therapy is not a cure all. There’s no magic wand to make the problems go away. The client has to actively put the work in to changing their own life. But that doesn’t mean that there won’t be slips or bits and pieces from the other life.
If this guy was broke living in a trailer park instead of a billionaire he would have been put in jail and it would not be considered soft porn.
