    Today we're going to be taking a look at, then we'll show you to install the Timbren Axle-less Trailer Suspension System. These are available in multiple configurations to fit most applications. Just check our website out for details. Today specifically we're going to be using part number ASR3500S05. This is a spindle only configuration for 3,500 pound axles. With the spindle only configuration we're going to be reusing our bearings, we're going to be reusing our brakes and our drums.
    You may want to pick up some new seals if you're going to go this route. We also have the full kits available with the brakes, the drums, and everything that you'll need. The Timbren Axle-less Suspension is an excellent, excellent product. You can tell an immediate difference as soon as we start hauling our trailer with the items installed. It's much, much quieter, much smoother, you don't feel the weight in the truck nearly as much as you did with that standard suspension. You can see as we're cornering there's no transfer of weight.
    They're working independently to keep our trailer nice and level. Here's what our kit's going to look like installed. This axle-less suspension system from Timbren is kind of a solution for all that noise and everything that we typically get with our trailers; real rough ride. Now, they use 2 rubber springs essentially, they're Aeon rubber springs. We've got our larger one here in the back. This is the main body of the system, and as we load it more and more and more it constantly kind of adapts to that to give us just the ride of support that we need. To keep this constantly under tension so we don't have to ever worry about a lot of that rattling and stuff, we've got a rebound spring right here in the front.
    These are designed to work with really any style of trailer frame, no matter of the thickness here. Depending on the application if you've got a really wide trailer, well then you're just going to put the 3 bolts in the side, 3 bolts up through the bottom. We're dealing with a little bit narrower angle channel here, so what we've done is we've put the square tube across the front. You could also design a bracket to go on the side, if you wanted like a gusseted bracket. There's a lot of options out there. We went with the spindle only design.
    It's really heavy duty, too. You can really tell about the quality that they've put into the design of it. Going to have a black powder coat finish on all of our surfaces and this real nice thick steel fully welded around all of our points with reinforcement gussets right where we want them. You can just tell it's a really well built system. Another advantage that we're going to see with the axle-less suspension is going to be increased ground clearance. We don't have that axle that typically hangs down here lower. Even with us using the cross tube design or the cross bracing design, it's tucked up right underneath of our trailer. It's even up higher than what our cross members are here for our flooring, so really tucks it up. Then this area down here, you can see smooths off. The axle-less suspension system can also help us with getting our deck height of our trailer where we want it. These are available in both drops and lifts. One of the added benefits that we get out of this axle-less system is that we're not tying this side of the trailer to that side of the trailer with one of those through axles that are going to go right through down here where all our movement's going to actually take place. This allows these to work independently of one another. If

    Love it. Simple but affective design.
    My only struggle on my overland trailer with a current dexter axle is ordering the right height. I cant figure out if standard or 4” lift will be appropriate. Trailer is kind of tall with 32” tires.

    • @etrailer
      @etrailer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You may be better off going with the 4" lift axle-less suspension so that you have extra clearance for overlanding.

    These are only good for lightweight use. Anything that will exceed 5k lbs use axels. These are also prone to swaying. Especially after they have been used for a while.
    They are good for adventure/teardrop type campers. Very easy to raise or lower them with this setup.
    Make sure to elongate the holes drilled for them and test before welding. You might find yourself pulling a trailer that is pulling to the side.

    • @robertheinkel6225

    What about tandem applications? Is there a way to equalize the pairs or would it be independent?

    • @etrailer
      @etrailer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For a tandem trailer you can use two sets of the Timbren systems however a third set for triple axle trailers is too much. The third axle will scrub too much for the Timbrens take. They'll be independent of one another.
      Another option for tandem trailers is the Silent Ride www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Trailer_Leaf_Spring_Suspension-co-Tandem_Axle-pm-Timbren.aspx These replace the suspension of a tandem trailer but you still use your standard axles.

    • @etrailer
      @etrailer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These axle-less systems are a bit different than a traditional torsion axle. The axle-less system is nice because if you hit a bump on the one side of the trailer, the other side of the trailer does not recoil from the bump. I have provided a link to the 5200 lb kits that we carry.

    • @etrailer
      @etrailer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to make sure that the hubs use the same bearings and grease seal as the spindle. You can either find the part numbers for these on the bearings and grease seal directly or you can use a digital caliper and measure the locations on the spindle that those parts ride to the nearest thousandths. Below is a link to our selection of hubs and drums as well as a link to an FAQ on bearings and seals. Axless system but it has an axle in the front, or do you call a a "stability bar" and then each side is held in with six bolts so now you're weakening the frame by drilling these holes all over the place in it so in a few years the trailer will break in half from all the rusting, then what happens when all of the rubber cushions dry rot

  • @danhammond8406
    @danhammond8406 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just go to a torsion axle. That's all this is with a longer swing arm. There is an axle to cross brace the frame. Remove the square tube and see how well it works.

    • @etrailer
      @etrailer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The most liked feature that people like with this kit is that if you hit a bump on one side of the trailer, it will not transfer the movement to the other side. This kit is also nice because if one side of the kit gets damaged for some reason, you don't have to replace both.

    I think they will work well for a drop deck trailer , 4 should be good enough in the 3500lb that way 10k weight will be perfect . Trailer will stay flat even parked with a load no tilt or tongue jack need. I've built other trailers but the full axles for drop ones won't work to well.

    Are these adequate for boat trailers?

    • @etrailer
      @etrailer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System will work well on a boat trailer. It has a heavy-duty steel construction which doesn't make it the best option for a salt water application, but it does have a black powder coat finish that helps to resist wear and corrosion and will hold up better than a standard painted axle in a saltwater environment. The Timbren Axle-Less system will have normal wear and tear as long as it is taken care of.
      The spindles use the EZ Lube feature which allows you to grease the zerk fitting without having to take the whole hub off. This is a great time saver option that some people don't even know about. That is really the only maintenance that you will have to take care of.

  • @RaceMentally
    @RaceMentally 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The spring set up is actually better. E Trailer you should correct your techs mis information. The rubber/urethane has a progressive rate spring and you can see the tire actually come off of the road due to the slow rebound of a rubber spring vs steel spring. Also be concerned with toe and camber issue when loaded vs conventional .188 wall tube spring axle.

    • @etrailer

    This is pretty much a torsion axle. The only real difference I see is the method of dampening. I don't dislike it however I would like it better if the spindle and trailing arm were designed so that the spindle bolted to the underside of the trailing arm instead of on top. In the configuration shown here the 4 mounting bolts take up the all the load whereas if the spindle was bolted to the underside of the trailing arm the trailing arm would take more of the weight and the bolts would more or less keep the spindle in place.

  • @robward7662

    The cross tube should extend at least flush to the outside of the side plates to transfer load properly, leaving just inside is just stupid

    • @etrailer
      @etrailer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is going to depend on the trailer that this kit is being installed on. If there is a cross member above where the new system will go then there is no need for the cross tube. But, I agree the tube should have been flush to outside of the bracket. Keep in mind the cross tube is not included in the kit.
