  • THE ACS - Using an Approved Minimum Equipment List (PA.I.B.K3b)
    If you're at a flight school flying single engine airplanes, odds are you are not using an MEL yet. Although the information about the MEL may feel trivial to learn so early as a student pilot, it is included in the ACS, and therefore because you could get asked about it, it's best you at least have a foundational understanding of what MEL's are.
    This is one subject I found hard to memorize as a student pilot, if you feel the same just remember, almost all the info you need regarding INOP equipment/ equipment lists can be found in 91.213, AC 91-67 and theres even a PHAK chapter on it.
    Thank you to those who waited on this video, more frequent uploads are back!!

      Thank you! I try to make it as simple as I would need it myself as a student!

    Pan Pan, Pan. Garett Tower! please keep your videos coming. A huge help for the ACS review before the check ride😀. Hope you are settled in your new place!

      I’m glad I can help!! New video will be out later today/ early tomorrow! And we are pretty much settled, we just need some furniture still, we don’t have a dinner table yet haha. I’m also trying to get a good desk for the setup, audio gear and all that, it’s going to be epic!

    Really liking how you are breaking it down into easy-to-understand terms man. Some instructors at these schools don't take the time to really break some of this stuff down much. Although everyone learns differently. I think this can be understood and applied if broken down like you do it. Great job 👍

      Thank you!! And I agree, I think a lot of instructors lose perspective on what being a student was like. For a lot of them it was a long time ago, but keeping it simple is the best way to memorize the information for the checkride.
      They call the private license “a license to learn” as your job to get the license is to learn the basics, but there’s so much more beyond that you’ll learn as you gain experience!

    Can you make a new video about efb, or someone comment and help me out. I have a check ride next week and was wondering if the new may acs update allowed ForeFlight and also allowing the pilot to keep gps and breadcrumbs on allowing us to use it like a back up gps instrument. A lot of my CFIs say that the new version legally allowed ForeFlight to be a nav log

      Yes I can make a TH-cam short about it and if I don’t I’ll just reply to you here. I have to do some research just in case, but the short answer is make a paper navlog anyway. Even if the new rules do allow for using foreflight, it really depends on your DPE. If your DPE is an old guy, and wants to be old school, and tells you he wants a paper navlog, and you show up with an iPad and say “technically in the rules I can use this instead of the navlog”
      Even if that DPE can’t technically nail you for that, he won’t like you not having a navlog. So you’ll have to be perfect everywhere else or he’ll just ding you for something else you didn’t do well on, where maybe he usually would’ve let you slide, if you had a good paper navlog. Again, this depends on your examiner, and I would recommend as soon as you find out who your examiner is, to contact them via text or email so you can be sure of what their expectations are.
      Just introduce yourself, and ask them in an email your questions like;
      - Do you want a paper navlog? Or is foreflight okay with you?
      - what airport would you like our flight plan to go to? Etc…
      This might seem like kind of an unfair way things are run, where even though the rules say one thing, the examiners can somewhat do another, but it’s the system we’ve been given, and we have to play it.
      Again though, I’m going to do some research, and find out what the technical answer is, and I hope you have a DPE that’s cool with using foreflight, as it’s a much better option in basically every way possible lol.
