Many many years ago, myself and several friend were playing pool in an all night bowling alley, and pool room. We were the only people there. Until around 1AM a large man came in and approached the man at the desk. After talking for a few minutes the bowling alley attendant came up to my friends and I and started to tell us we had to leave. At which time the big guy came over and said "Since we were already there we could stay, but not to let anyone else in"... naturally my friends and I thought the place was being robbed and we were all gonna die. Turned out Bob Seager and his band (Who had just finished a concert in town) had rented the entire bowling alley so they could kick back and relax... we ended up partying with them all night... nicest guy you'd ever want to meet.

I don't think I have ever heard anybody say, "I don't like Bob Seger." His songs either send you into deep reflection or make you get up and rock out. The passion is always there.
For a long time I couldn't listen to Bob Seger songs because I had terrible associations with them. My mother was an abusive alcoholic and she always listened to Bob Seger when she drank. It was not a good time for me in the mid to late 1980s. But she passed away on 2012, and I have had some time to heal...and start listening to this music again.

@@Borg1269 You know the story? Rosalie Trombley was the music director at top 40 radio station, CKLW, late 60s to early 80s. Station was in Canada, but could be heard well into Michigan and Ohio. She is said to have ignited careers of Kiss, Ted Nugent, Earth Wind and Fire, The Guess Who, and launched songs by Gordon Lightfoot, Paul Anka, BTO, Burton Cummings and even Elton John's "Bennie and the Jets". This song expressed Seger's frustration at his lack of play on the station at a certain point. They were friends, and she was generally a fan. Helped launch him beyond the Detroit region. But she never did play Rosalie.

As soon as I got off work I dashed out and bought it and i wore that sucker out. We were able to see Bob in concert about 10 years ago and he still absolutely blows it away.
He is IMHO the voice of America's heartland. When he was young he had an old soul. Turn the page is his best, but Night Moves, Against The Wind and Still the Same are all close seconds. All about yearning for more in the face of our mortality.

Bob Seger to me has always been the working man's rocker. Springsteen always seemed to be running away from his roots, while Seger seemed to embrace them.
I’ve always thought of Bob as “ bar music” . Being from Michigan, he was on every jukebox in every bar in Michigan. Nothings better than sitting in a old bar , late at night, Smokey and Bob comes on the jukebox

Went to high school with a guy in the late 70's early 80's. He had a 90 cassette tape in his car that was nothing but "Turn The Page" over and over again. He gave me a ride home one day and had it playing. The tape screwed up and I asked him what he would listen to now? He reaches into the glove compartment and pulls out a 90 minute cassette tape. You guessed it, "Turn The Page" over and over again. Oh' yeah, the tape was marked, "Turn The Page #24."

We won't get out of the car if Comfortably Numb is on until it fades out. And ESPECIALLY if the Beatles - A day in the life comes on. This song is a masterpiece, truly. I first heard it at about 12 years old (1973). Anyone who hasn't heard the cover of this song by Metallica (yes, I'm serious!) you are really missing out. Fantastic, both versions.
One of the greatest songs from one of the greatest singers ever!! His voice is soulful and smooth and that saxophone really sets the mood for the entire song. It's a perfect song.

I saw him twice in concert, and he sounded EXACTLY like this both times. This song brought down the house both times, the second concert the whole place sang along with him. He got a standing ovation after this song, which was not the last of the concert, for several minutes both times. Class act with enormous talent...

R.I.P. Alto Reed, saxophone and friend for Bob for over 20 years. The songs Bob Seger has written {and performed} could stand on their own as poetry. His unique choice of words or phrases always say exactly what he wants the song to say.
I just discovered this channel by having the Edmond Fitzgerald recommended and enjoyed your reaction so I watched another one, The Great Gig in the Sky. When you said “oh there are no lyrics, she’s just singing her soul. I get it!”, I subbed and have been bingeing for the past hour
back in 1976, after discharge from the Army, I rode my bicycle from Detroit to Ft Huachuca, Arizona, roundtrip, and being a Bob Seger fan since 1965, I had this tune in my mind for the 5,000 mile trip... When I went into restaurants and would feel these thoughts, I tried to stay clean and worked for a meal when I would do dishes or wash windows. I have personally known Bob all these years and he was always helpful when I wanted to cheer up a cancer patient, with maybe an autograph or a photo... to let them know he wanted to cheer them up. Growing up in Michigan, where Bob is from, most of my friends had 2 copies: for home and car. In the midwest, before he became famous he was what Springsteen was to New Jersey before he became famous. I was lucky to see him live a couple of times in the ‘75-‘77 era. Sax player’s name is “Alto Reed.” Dude was all-in.
I met Bob Seger In Northville Michigan a few times. He would pull up in the silver bullet band bus and stop at McDonald's restaurant after his tour or just before taking off on the road to start one. He bought me a burger 2 times. I was probably 6/7 years old, nice guy. His music has spanned at least 3 generations.
I grew up hearing Bob Seger singing in clubs as a kid, hanging outside of doors around Metro Detroit Area in the 60's. My son has seen him live at least 15 times. He's awesome

My dad’s music tastes shaped mine from a very young age. I’m now 46, almost 47 and will still listen to ANYTHING Bob Seger thanks to Dad’s influence. He’s still with me, thankfully. But I appreciate his influence on my own musical tastes, probably more than he will ever realizes.

Finally saw him in concert last year with my parents (cherish those memories so much, my dad passed suddenly and unexpectedly 7 weeks ago and it's been hard). Grew up listening to his music and being Autistic music is vital.... love his songs
Bob Seger has a tremendous narrative gift; his songs tell stories that are true to the heart because we've all lived them. His voice is perfect for telling those stories. You feel that road-weariness from any road trip you've made.
True story: when I was in college, a girl who lived in my dorm was dating Bob's guitarist. Most folk didn't know anyone in the band other than Bob Seger and one day he came to pick her up wearing a jacket that read "BOB SEGER AND THE SILVER BULLET BAND GUITARIST" on the back. I thought to myself you know, without that jacket, I'd never pick him out of a crowd. ;)
He has a soulful voice that for the last few decades been labeled "blue eyed soul" most embrace it but Darryl Hall from Hall and Oats rejects the term “I hate it; it’s a racist term, It assumes I’m coming from the outside. There’s always been that thing in America, where if you’re a white guy and you’re singing or playing in a black idiom, it’s like: ‘Why is he doing that? I grew up listening to the greats of Motown.. There is no color to soul. Soul music comes from the heart".
Bob has a depth of character in his voice that he’s been truly blessed to have and thankfully it’s been shared with us. It reminds me of driving up to Indiana back in the mid 80’s with my parents sitting in the backseat passing the time with the radio. It’s damp, cold, wet around thanksgiving. Driving from Florida to Indiana back then wasn’t an easy drive and you’d go from sunshine and beautiful to that miserable wet cold that only Indiana can get at that time of year. Bobs voice always puts me in another time and place in my life. Great song, fun watching your reaction my friend!
Native Hoosier here. You rolled down Highway 41, right? Killer 41, they called it. I know that cold you're talking about. "Normal " winters were cold and wet as a well digger's ass. I lived in on a farm during the winters of 77 and 78. Snow day after day, then 2" ice. Even the far south got hit by the blizzard of 78. Some drifts were 20 feet tall. Summers were always as hot and humid as Gramm's kitchen on canning day . But days in spring and fall so fine you forgot all about the rest.
Growing up in Michigan Bob Seger was a staple. He went to my High school. I never knew him. 15 yrs apart. Main Street, Old Time Rock and Roll.... great songs. I think you nailed it when you thought that you misspoke. Bob Segar is a musician as well as a magician. That spell he casts when he belts out the first few lyrics, keeps me listening to the whole song every time. And that saxophone is such a legendary sound.
Seger is a good man. He took several years off touring to care for a sick child , just doing local shows. When things were good, he resumed his career. Old Time Rock and Roll is his song.
Alto Reed was in my dental office a while back and much to my surprise he brought the sax from this song. He played this song and the whole office, patients and staff went nuts. He was a great guy and is missed. Rest In Peace.

When I see the lists people are posting of his songs, you realize what an awesome singer/songwriter he is. Such a unique and identifiable voice.
He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2012.

Went to high school with a guy in the late 70's early 80's. He had a 90 cassette tape in his car that was nothing but "Turn The Page" over and over again. He gave me a ride home one day and had it playing. The tape screwed up and I asked him what he would listen to now? He reaches into the glove compartment and pulls out a 90 minute cassette tape. You guessed it, "Turn The Page" over and over again. Oh' yeah, the tape was marked, "Turn The Page #24."
That's the coolest thing I'll read all week. My boyfriend in 79-80 had a 67(?) pontiac with an 8 track player in it. The only tape I remember listening to was The Babys Head First

His facial expressions are just like mine listening to this song as a grown man after all the years of me rolling my eyes to it while my mother would blast this song. My mom had a bad ass taste in music and this song will ALWAYS remind me of her. Miss her every day.

My mother was a HUGE rock n roll nut. Turned me onto Pink Floyd (my fav)... The Beatles, you get the point. I won't leave my car if certain songs are on. That's just how it is. We won't get out of the car if Comfortably Numb is on until it fades out. And ESPECIALLY if the Beatles - A day in the life comes on. Once that piano crashes at the end, I literally will NOT turn the car off until it fades out. Even my local radio station will NOT cut that part short. Haha👍🏼

This song is a masterpiece, truly. I first heard it at about 12 years old (1973). Anyone who hasn't heard the cover of this song by Metallica (yes, I'm serious!) you are really missing out. Fantastic, both versions.

back in 1976, after discharge from the Army, I rode my bicycle from Detroit to Ft Huachuca, Arizona, roundtrip, and being a Bob Seger fan since 1965, I had this tune in my mind for the 5,000 mile trip... When I went into restaurants and would feel these thoughts, I tried to stay clean and worked for a meal when I would do dishes or wash windows. I have personally known Bob all these years and he was always helpful when I wanted to cheer up a cancer patient, with maybe an autograph or a photo... to let them know he wanted to cheer them up. I wish him all the best, now that he has retired, and hope he and his family are doing well. God Bless Bob and Cheers, JP Bear, Plymouth Michigan.

Growing up in Michigan, where Bob is from, most of my friends had 2 copies: for home and car. In the midwest, before he became famous he was what Springsteen was to New Jersey before he became famous. I was lucky to see him live a couple of times in the ‘75-‘77 era. Sax player’s name is “Alto Reed.” Dude was all-in.

I met Bob Seger In Northville Michigan a few times. He would pull up in the silver bullet band bus and stop at McDonald's restaurant after his tour or just before taking off on the road to start one. He bought me a burger 2 times. I was probably 6/7 years old, nice guy. His music has spanned at least 3 generations.
I grew up hearing Bob Seger singing in clubs as a kid, hanging outside of doors around Metro Detroit Area in the 60's. My son has seen him live at least 15 times. He's awesome

Bob Seger has a tremendous narrative gift; his songs tell stories that are true to the heart because we've all lived them. His voice is perfect for telling those stories. You feel that road-weariness from any road trip you've made.
True story: when I was in college, a girl who lived in my dorm was dating Bob's guitarist. Most folk didn't know anyone in the band other than Bob Seger and one day he came to pick her up wearing a jacket that read "BOB SEGER AND THE SILVER BULLET BAND GUITARIST" on the back. I thought to myself you know, without that jacket, I'd never pick him out of a crowd. ;)

Bob has a depth of character in his voice that he’s been truly blessed to have and thankfully it’s been shared with us. It reminds me of driving up to Indiana back in the mid 80’s with my parents sitting in the backseat passing the time with the radio. It’s damp, cold, wet around thanksgiving. Driving from Florida to Indiana back then wasn’t an easy drive and you’d go from sunshine and beautiful to that miserable wet cold that only Indiana can get at that time of year. Bobs voice always puts me in another time and place in my life. Great song, fun watching your reaction my friend!

I lived in on a farm during the winters of 77 and 78. Snow day after day, then 2" ice. Even the far south got hit by the blizzard of 78. Some drifts were 20 feet tall.

But days in spring and fall so fine you forgot all about the rest.

I think you nailed it when you thought that you misspoke. Bob Segar is a musician as well as a magician. That spell he casts when he belts out the first few lyrics, keeps me listening to the whole song every time. And that saxophone is such a legendary sound.
Seger is a good man. He took several years off touring to care for a sick child , just doing local shows. When things were good, he resumed his career. Old Time Rock and Roll is his song.

Alto Reed was in my dental office a while back and much to my surprise he brought the sax from this song. He played this song and the whole office, patients and staff went nuts. He was a great guy and is missed. Rest In Peace.
