"Today's music ain't got the same soul" And Bob was talking about the music of the late 70s and 80s. 40 years later... it's even worse than he imagined it.
There is still good music. Just have to sift past the top 40 garbage and really discover it. People who say there is no good music being made have obviously never listened. But I deffinatly still love that old time rock n roll.
There’s a lot of country music that you can relate to from losing a loved one or friend and some that pay respect to our military and first responders or those about relationships
That's what my dad told me in 1974 or so. Specifically, he said, "If you EVER bring Steppenwolf into MY house I will break the record beat your @$5!" Anyway, I think people have been saying it since the second song ever was written. Let's face it--nothing's ever going to measure up to what we grew up with. But hey, I'm 56 and still go to the occasional concert (some new group or other) and listen to songs my kids (ages 29, 25 and 22) recommend. There is good, soulful, rockin music out there, you just gotta get past the top 40 and find it (shout out to Daniel Ingalls). Hit me up if you want some recommendations. All that said, I still love the music I grew up with, and Bob Seger never disappoints.

"It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of our lifelong friend and band mate, Alto Reed. Alto passed away this morning at his home with his family by his side after fighting a courageous battle with colon cancer. Alto has been a part of our musical family, on and off stage, for nearly 50 years. I first started playing with Alto in 1971. He was amazing - he could play just about anything…he was funky, could scat and play tenor sax and alto sax at the same time. We worked with Alto often and when we booked our first headline arena gigs at Cobo Hall, we asked him to be a part of those shows. No doubt his iconic performance on Turn The Page helped lift us to another level. He has been with us on that stage virtually every show, ever since. And whether it was Turn The Page, Mainstreet, or Old Time Rock And Roll, audiences roared every time he played his part. In our band, Alto was the rock star. Off stage, Alto had a passion for discovering and experiencing new things. He taught me how to sail on Biscayne Bay, we swam with the sharks (unintentionally!), and he often introduced us to local foods and restaurants he had discovered. I called him Captain. He was bolder than I was. I remember visiting him in the Miami area and I found him feeding the manatees in a lagoon behind his house. Most of us feed the seagulls, Alto fed the manatees! Alto started a family and was a fabulous father. He helped raise two talented, beautiful, intelligent young ladies. Over the years, his passion for music, life and new adventures never diminished. We loved him like a brother and will miss him forever." - Bob Seger
"Still like that Old Time Rock & Roll, That kind of music just soothes the soul..." It meant one thing back in the day, it has even deeper meaning today.
My Dad could play ALL of those songs on the drums! His brother sounded just like Seger. His other brothers, and a couple friends made their covers sound as good as the originals. Miss you Dad!

This song has longevity with over 40 years of airplay. It's just as fresh today as it was in 1978 when it was first released. Also "A MUST HAVE" at a wedding reception!!
I'll say it! Those of blessed to have grown up with this best ever music, are the coolest folks around. Even tho we now have grey hair, achy joints etc. Inside we can still kick it, so never judge a book by it's cover.

Speaking of first faves, if you haven't heard "Don't Bring Me Down" by Electric Light Orchestra, I recommend it. Always asked my older sister to play that record every chance I could.
Federal cowbell definitely deserves its place in Rock and roll history. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I hear that old cowbell in so many different rock and roll songs. I believe it definitely deserves its own place in rock and roll histories. Of course now that doesn't mean that we forget about the saxophone the flute or that wonderful little instrument they call a mouth harp I can't think of the other name for it right now but they all have their own place in Rock and roll history book I definitely think the cowbell has earned itself a spot there too.

You know Benny Goodman was the first rocker, what did he call it? “Hot or cool music”. The clarinet was the first lead instrument. He was kicked out of the biggest of the “big bands”, had a sound that got people boogieing.
Bob Seger has such a rich soulfull voice. It's as smooth as an old Tenor Saxophone I saw him in concert a few years ago and the man put on a great show. Truly a classic. (side note) Let's not fail to give the credit due to the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section for writing and performing in studio, most of Bob Seger's music. They worked with a lot of different musicians. Check them out. Peace.
Another great up tempo rocker from Bob Seger is "Feel Like A Number", from 1978. The studio version is fine. I think you would like it, Jamal.. One of my favorites..
When I lived in Colorado I was morning bartender in a neighborhood bar. At least once a day someone would play this song, because (1) everyone liked it and (2) to aggravate the neighbor -- a jewelry/crystal glassware store. When this song played it would shake the whole building including the inventory. Ssooo bad!!! Obviously as soon as I found out about the vibration, I kept the volume turned down,

Betty Lou, We've got tonight, roll me away, night moves, you'll accompany me
My favorite part from 4:08-4:20 just the drums. The clap and Bobs voice. Magical stuff
Now on to Billy Joel’s Still RnR to me
Or "Moving out" that's my favorite lol
Just Me no doubt, but I was goin for the topic
Definitely a good topic!
