  • Quick video of the read, erase, and write process with an Autoprom. I've done literally hundreds of writes and it's a pretty easy process once you get everything set correctly. Watch along to see.

    Great vid, I am 23 and have spent numerous days and hours learning about gm obd1 tuning, i get the gist of it, but, still would love to see you make a video or videos showing the tables to edit and how to edit them! like watching your vids. Hope to hear back from ya.

      Each mask is different in the way they work. I know $A1 and $0D really well for my Beretta and z71. But the basics are the same. Set your injector constant to match your injectors and displacement, and then use BLM logging and/or wideband to adjust your VE and PE tables

    I'd be interested in videos on any and all obd1 tuning info you could provide. I remember Jeff Counsil on quad4forums (and probably berettanet too I'm sure, iirc he used to go to the bfests) would burn chips for guys with various options like fan on off temps, idle speed, fuel cutoff speed, etc. But I thought he could just write over existing chips because he was always asking guys to send him ones they got from junk yards. Could just have been an assumption on my part. But either way I need to get into this at some point.

      Yup, Jeff is a guy I've consulted before. I kinda became a "guru" myself because I had to. I bought a 3400 swap chip and it was pretty terrible. Got mine to run mint eventually and fixed a couple buddies' cars too.

    I think these are the same chips I need for my 94 C1500. I need to change the settings on my 305 TBI engine 4l60E for a B-body LT1 cam. Think its a $0D mask its a 395 ECM. I can read the factory Chip/ Knock sensor Memcal with the moates adapter? My chip is soldered to the memcal.. I think? I dont think it has the base like this.

    • @GEARHEADdezign
      @GEARHEADdezign  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. My 94 was a 7427 but it was also $0D. The G1 adapter will allow you to read and write a 27sf512 chip with the Autoprom. If you have the smaller adapter just for the chip, that will allow you to read the stock tune

    Hi. I've got a 1988 S-10 with a 4.3 Throttle Body that runs really rich because I live at 7,500 ft in elevation. Does my truck have a prom that could be re-programed to lean out the injection system and get this truck running better? Right now I get pretty bad gas mileage, low power, and sometimes the engine acts like its choking. Thank you for this video and any help you can offer.

    • @GEARHEADdezign
      @GEARHEADdezign  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your existing tune should read the MAP with key on engine off before starting and compensate accordingly. Reads it like a barometer. But yes, you should also be able to tune it however you want. Although your issue might just be a bad sensor. I would datalog first and see what sensor might be reading erroneously.

    I’m attempting something many say is extremely difficult, I’m planning to TPI a SBC 302, and have zero experience in tuning, I’m sure you know the 302’s rpm status and the TPI is a torque booster, I’m planning to boost with a centrifugal supercharger and was thinking of bypassing as much as possible, any suggestions or ideas of what’s a necessary and what’s not? The TPI is from a 92 model 5.7

    • @GEARHEADdezign
      @GEARHEADdezign  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oof. That sounds like a mismatch. TPI does help low end torque that the 302 lacks, but will severely choke it up top and you'll end up with the worst of both worlds...IMO.

    • @GEARHEADdezign
      @GEARHEADdezign  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I planned on TPI for my last truck, but that was a low RPM application. And I picked up a 4.8 LS for cheap RPM in my current project.

      It all depends on your priorities. I tuned my TBI truck and v6 Beretta with the factory computers. That also enabled me to help quite a few friends with their cars.
      If you go fitech you'll spend a lot more money and it will only benefit one car. But the learning curve should be a lot easier.

    • @GEARHEADdezign

      It works best with a bench harness, so it would be kinda time consuming, but it could be done. The read/write process is also slower than hptuners. I tuned my truck with it via datalog.
