Anyways, HADESTOWN. It's beautiful and I've been listening to it exclusively for weeks, so of course I had to make this.

- should have made the contrast between orpheus and eurydice standing together vs hades and perse standing apart more obvious somehow
- also emphasize perse turning towards vs hades turning away during the chorus?
- eury's face in the beginning sequence is the silliest
- panning shots on the workers to be less boring next time
- plan out crowd shot compositions beforehand
- need to practice drawing faces from the back 3/4

Oh wow, something I only realised after watching this. The tragedy of the story is ofcourse that the end is inevitable, but in this musical, it's that Eurydice would not have looked back. Orpheus, who so fervently believes in the future which was his biggest flaw and biggest quality, has learned to be more realistic. And so he is unsure and turns. Whereas the headstrong Eurydice who has finally learned to let go of her worries and dream of something better would not have. The musical has just added another layer to the story, and god, now I'm crying. This was so well made

it makes sense, since Greek heroes always have a hubris (aka fatal flaw) and so now he suffers because of it
Panic! at the Starkid Fan not always, it’s just a big trope in it but not always,
Panic! at the Starkid Fan hubris is thinking you’re always right and that you can do everything, it’s too much pride, and that’s the opposite of Orpheus’s character, he isn’t prideful he’s insecure at the end,
And who would blame him? Everyone around him lied and there was deceit around him, he learned to be more realistic than idealistic, and that was the flaw in the end,

the animation on “wait for me” “i will”.... wow
The fluidness of Hades turning towards Persephone when he says I will. Not only did that emphasize it, but that turn is exactly how I see the conversation when I hear the song

I remember him saying that while I was in the theater and honestly it makes me so sad
amazing animatic!!! perfect for the *very last song in the musical* with *no other songs afterward whatsoever* what a *beautiful ending* incredible, so happy for orpheus and eurydice and can't wait for them to walk out of the underworld together with no problems at all~

Something I love about this song is when Hades and Persephone are having the conversation and Hades says “it’s almost spring, we’ll try again next fall.” It shows that he’s letting her go early this year instead of making her stay late. I just really like it because it’s showing his ✨character growth✨

Ooh this is really gorgeous and creative!! I especially love the whole “wait for me? I will” segment with Hades and Persephone as well as how you drew the Fates, this entire thing is just spectacular
thank you! tbh I made this whole animatic just for that part - then it grew into this whole thing. And yeah, the fates, they always looked like that in my head - and it also makes them easier to rough in so that was a win -win. I'm glad you like it

Despite the tale of Orpheus and Eurydice being so well known, they managed to make me hope for a better end for them
This animatic really makes me want to see a film adaptation of the musical. If one is made hopefully it is as creative in its visual storytelling as this animatic

What breaks my heart about this musical so much is that not only did Orpheus banish Eurydice to hell, but he basically crushed the small hope that the workers had. The hope that maybe someday they can get out of Hadestown too.

Gosh I love how you did this scene! I also love the depiction of the fates as wispy ghost entities. I was actually thinking up a similar depiction of them while I was having my one woman musical in my car the other day. :)
Ha that's one thing that should happen more often! I listened to the recordings a lot (too much) before youtubing for the actual performance so that's what I've always seen them as - glad it resonates :)
The expressions and actions you give all of them, but especially Eurydice, actually put me to tears. She was SO confident they’re going to succeed, and just knowing how it all ends...

Sorry i just needed somewhere to rant about this musical, great animation btw on to the rant. Hades "I will" is so important because it's almost a promise, he won't come early. he can wait and he will wait because he loves his wife and he knows she loves her time on the surface. God that one line has made me cry so many times because it's saying i love you and i will miss you but i will always love you and respect what you need. it's them improving and trying their best!!!

I Adore every single moment in this: from the way you drew hermes, to the animation of the choir of workers, the "I WILL" GIVES ME CHILLS EVERY SINGLE Time, the idea of the workers lighting up the way with their helmets, The Fates were Perfect, the background of the scene when orpheus is walking is soo fitting, the way you included the scene of persephone leaving hell !!, THE ENDING!!! jdhdjsgd

This is class, You're able to set all the tones and moods of the song seamlessly without it looking cluttered. Love your take on the fates and how well you conveyed a tired and resigned Hades!
I really like how you included Eurydice turning into a shade at 1:24. It’s an important detail in the myth that I don’t think is integrated very clearly in the musical.
thank you! I'm glad you noticed. Yes I agree, its a fun detail that could've been alluded to more! I've never seen the musical, but I imagine they did not add it since everyone seems more human in the musical than you would expect, and there isn't really any explicit magic going on besides the lalalas so it might seem out of place? How would you have liked it to be included?
@@sealbatross I feel the same! I saw it last week and it isn't really alluded to one way or another. We could assume it still happens since Orpheus doesn't seem to hear her at all during the journey out of Hadestown, but they don't give any clear indication. To be fair, it seems like it would be pretty hard to translate onstage, so I get why they don't address it, but it would still help justify his doubt towards the end.

Good, I fucking love this animatic! The intimacy between Orpheus and Eurydice at the beginning, the support of the workers, the depiction of the Fates is so haunting and beautiful!! And I freaking love the final scene of the Orpheus walking along the train tracks, and seeing Eurydice determined behind him. GAAAAAHHH This musical and this song are so emotional and gorgeous, and your depiction of all of this is so beautiful and well done!!
