    In 2012, I filmed the Fender Excelsior Pro demo for ProGuitarShop. As the Pawn Shop Special product was discontinued a year later, the demo video was taken down but luckily stored by yours truly. So, I bring you this rare 1x15" 13W tube combo once again and in higher upload quality since TH-cam has improved in the last decade. Thanks to those who kept reminding me about this demo, I thought the video was corrupted for quite a while but it's here to stay!
    Thanks for watching,
    -Andy

    Fun fact, I was working at PGS when they got this amp and I took all the photos seen here. Early 2012 I think? Good times.

    This one of the first products I bought solely based on an Andy demo! Killer little amp.

    I have mine. It’s my main amp. It’s a great amp with straight forward features. Mine is the pro with the upgraded speaker. Don’t ever plan on selling it. Rock solid amp.

    I still have the Excelsior Pro. I have used it at shows before and the sound men love it. Such a simple design but it just sounds awesome.

    The Fender Excelsior is a much better amp than many forums posts claim. The 15' speaker makes it great for double duties for recording bass at lower volumes and acoustic guitars. It also takes pedals really well, and with a load box and some IR's, it's an incredible workhorse!

    • @antonylinteau3408

    I vaguely remember one demo you did for PGS back in the day. It was for the Barber B Custom Super Sport overdrive pedal. I came so close to buying it the day you released the demo, then it was discontinued, now I can't find it! That pedal was so awesome. Love the lost demo videos!

    The Excelsior Pro was my first tube amp back when it came out. Still have it and it still rocks. A few years back I replaced the stock tubes with JJs and I’d recommend everyone do the same. Turn it up all the way, flip the switch to dark and run a treble boost into it… there’s no better solo tone.

    I love this amp. You can easily modify to add a tremolo footswitch by installing a jack that connects disconnects one of the trem knob lugs to ground/chassis. Good amp!

      Why did people hate on it? No reverb? Fine with me, I never use reverb and would rather have tremelo anyway!

    The Excelsior is my primary amp, even over my AC15. It sounds great and gets nice and crunchy. I pair it with a Helix and it takes that extremely well. People are often asking me what kind of amp it is! Highly recommend, especially for the price.

    • @jonathanjohnson8656
      @jonathanjohnson8656 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use mine with a vox ac10 in stereo. The reverb slightly engaged on the vox and the tremolo slightly on the excelsior ( sometimes) . It has a really big tone. ( my big amps are a silverface twin reverb and a super six, the ac10 and excelsior sound great even compared to those iconic fenders).

    My first tube amp! I bought it second hand and upgraded the speaker which made it much louder, but also made it heavier. I also bought a used Greta. I would love to try the other Pawn Shop amps.

    That was such a great time for small affordable tube amps, unlike today. I'd say they should bring them back, but I know they would cost almost $1000 nowadays. I had a Champion 600 from around that time that I sorely regret letting go. If only I knew then that all these amps would be discontinued and the remaining offerings like Pro juniors would go up to almost $1000.

    Good demo of a good amp. These have resistors build into the power supply to make is simulate a tube rectifier. Combined with the 15" speaker it sags and blooms when you hit it hard. Plenty of lo-fi goodness here. The inputs emphasize certain frequencies/ IIRC, guitar is full range, accordion is mid-focused and mic is padded.

    No one seems to mention the other 2 input jacks- candidly labeled as 'Accordion and 'Microphone. They might be alternate decibal inputs that are rated for guitar. Such as + or - 6 db

    • @AndyDemos
      @AndyDemos  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Both of those inputs offer some form of attenuation, so not really that interesting when it comes to guitar tones. I believe the low end is cut on the Accordian in.

    I just bought the pawn shop greta. Then I went to see how much some fresh tubes would costs. Then I found out there's no such thing as tubes on the open market anymore all the sudden. Damn. It was bought for cuteness though so what can I say? Oh well

    • @JulianA-tr6pt
      @JulianA-tr6pt ปีที่แล้ว

      What's that use a 12at7 and a 12ax7? Don't worry about replacing them - if they work, there's no real advantage in sound quality or anything (despite what forums say). Re-freshing tubes was a huge waste that is laughable, especially now that tubes are expensive and rarer. Legendary guitarists of the 50s and 60s replaced them when they blew - one at a time.
      I have heavily beat 80 year old tubes that sound the same as new stuff.
      These AT7/AX7s probably will last forever too, knowing preamp tubes.
