  • in this episode I show you my recently acquired Fender Exselcior limited Edition 2012.
It's a great cheap all tube amp, made in China with Volume and Tremolo controls. Very simple, yet great sounding amp.

Budda, I bought the original brown one and upgraded the speaker to an Eminence 15 as per the pro model. I also took out the tone switch and put in a tone pot so the tone is adjustable. I also used friction tape on the entire chassis to cut down on rattle. I have gotten more compliments from that amp than any amp, other than the 50 watt 1968 Plexi I had in high school. Wish I still had that one.

i put a matched pair of jj 6v6's in mine. I can't believe a 13 watt amp can get so loud. I have yet to get it passed 10 o'clock. Gigged with it Friday night and it was set just below 9 o'clock, played a Gretsch 5657 with flat wounds and a Harley Benton 12 string with flat wounds and the strings setup like on a Rickenbacker. I have owned this amp for a few years and I still love it. Some people complain about the tone control but I just leave it in the dark setting as the amp to me is naturally bright. My only criticism is that past 12 on the volume when you start getting into over driven territory, the amp is noisy. It's not just hiss but a loud hum.

One big reason (another being the tube tremolo) why I went out and found one of these was the weight: even with a 15-inch speaker, it doesn't break your back. I do wish the reverb was built in, because I really don't need more than that to get the sound I want. Also, I put an attenuator on mine, set at -12db, sounds great.

I found three knobs that matched and were brown so it looks good too. I also put friction tape on the chassis to cut down on the vibration sound that was coming from where the chassis fits together. Mine was a base model that I put the Eminence Legend and new JJ tubes. I also took friction tape and put it on all sides of the amp chassis. The chassis is a light gauge of bent metal. Mine along with about ever one would rattle. The friction tape fixed it, but I used generous amounts and made sure that each surface had the tape. You can't see it and it works well. Just a tip. I also swapped the tone switch for a tone pot. It is very easy to do. The mods are available on the forums just search out Excelsior Mods and you will find even more easy upgrades. looks good on paper. But a big fail upon application. We all wanted that amp to be better. Oh well.

I love this app so I’m not sure what you’re risking about!!!

A matter of personal taste, I suppose. I love mine.

I think it's great. Simple, clean when you want, saturated when you want. Cheap and looks great

I'm wondering why they stopped making them so quickly. And they make nothing like that now.

@@andymac3820 This amp is anything but ugly. You are entitled to your opinions but they obviously suck. I'm an old school blues man and this amp looks and sounds great! Like having an old truck with crank windows that actually work and no extra fancy bullshit that will fail.
