- In our first episode, • Porsche 1976 3liter Tu... , we looked at the engine from the outside. Now, we dive in to split the engine case.
This engine, like many, has had work done over its lifetime. There is one spot that is ok for silicone on Porsche. You can use silver silicone in the engine Technical Service Bulletin 8911, which we show here: • Porsche Technical Bull... .
Other than that, no silicone in an air-cooled Porsche engine. Please!
Besides rust the loss of amazing talented knowledgeable auto surgeons is the most worrying thing to happen to classic cars !!!!! Thank you for keeping the art alive :) With best wishes.
Your welcome and thanks for the support..

I really enjoy your videos, and your explanations, and tips. You appear to be quite the perfectionist, and that is far better than the bodgers. I am a retired British mechanic, out of all the vehicles and machinery I have worked on, my favourites were jaguar e-types and V12 xjs. Never worked on VW flat fours or Porsche sixes👍
Glad you like them!

I always enjoy your videos. Great explanations on what not to do. Excellent job.

Kurt
your videos are so fun to watch thank you ❤🙏🏻
Glad you like them!
My Porsche experience is limited to replacing a clutch, it was more like working on an airplane, than other automobiles, which was simultaneously cool, and frightening.
Yes these cars are very similar to aircraft in there design and quality.

Wow. That is one nasty, tedious cleaning job ahead. I imagine the owner will be horrified and probably enraged when he sees this. Didn't you say in a previous video that this engine had just recently been "rebuilt"?
Yes this engine has had two different people working on it, neither one of them was particular skilled.
Kurt
A proper 930 engine rebuild is $40 to $50,000. Imagine how happy the owner is to find out he's wasted this amount of money and is now in for another massive bill. Not to mention it usually takes about a year. Hopefully Kurt can get this one back on the road sooner than that!
Should be a lot sooner than that.

Silicon renegades frightening for porsche
Looks like someone has generated economic activity for you with their liberal use of sealants :) I'm sure the owner is glad you found these issues now before something much worse happened. Great videos!
Thanks for Watching

Wow, same Snap-on leakdown tester I have.
Nice, I have that one for 30 years now and its still going strong.
Kurt
What a nightmare😆
Yep, but unfortunately it happens all too often.

Hello sir, does your actual shop have a website/contact info? I only know of the training site. I'm interested in having a teardown/rebuild done, would like to reach out.
You can reach us directly at contact@klassikats.com and we can discuss your project.
Kurt
Great video. Can’t place your accent. Sounds Like a Kiwi moved to Wisconsin.
Thanks for watching.
