That is what I like, and that also helps me to prevent pain from using plate. I can use version 1 everyday even slow runs without any pain like other carbon fiber shoes.
I 100% agree, I hated the Vaporfly next 2% because it was so squishy and it felt like I had no control over my running. On the other hand, I loved the magic speed from asics which surprised myself. I’m hoping my deviate nitro 2s will provide a similar, firmer and more balanced experience like a metaracer or a magic speed
I found version 1 exciting to run in and a pretty good combination with Takumi Sen 8 for my speed works. But I was hoping they would remove some excess foam just because it was getting in the way during speed sessions. Also, I think they changed the shape of the plate as well. That is way too much unnecessary change from one iteration to another, not to mention unexpected weight gain.
I had to smile when you got to the point that you mentioned the NB FuelCell Rebel v3 as a companion shoe to the Deviate Nitro Elite 2 because, as I was watching you describe and show the Deviate Nitro Elite 2, it struck me how similar it is to the FuelCell Rebel, which is my current daily trainer. I currently have three pairs of Rebel v3 that I rotate, with a pair of Rebel v1's that I save for up tempo runs, but it sounds as if the Deviate Nitro Elite 2 would be similar, except with more "pop."
Intriguing. I love the Deviate Nitro 2 for all kinds of runs and this looks like a lighter, sleeker, and faster version of it. After putting in so many miles in max-cushioned "modern" shoes, it's refreshing to run in something lower with the "old school" feel. I have too many shoes right now to add another one but I'll definitely have to consider this later in the year - hopefully amongst more colorway options.
Just ran in v1. They don't have the pop like a vaporfly or other high end Carbon racers. But it's a great workout shoe. Was able to buy it last year at a nice discount.
Some of those heel additions and a bit more structure I think were added with hybrid racing/ Hyrox in mind. I've also found both v1 and these make me run with far better technique. I found Nike alphaflys rewarded overstriding and ended up with constant niggles.
How much does the "Elite" add compared to the Puma Deviate Nitro 2? They seem to have great reviews and curious if this is considered a worthy step up...
PUMA Changed the plate from a forked one in the forefoot to a non-forked one and apparently that is working better for you. Probably some of the weight gain is due to fuller plate. Outsole rubber is also different in this version. Eddbud also liked this version a lot. I just got v1 for less than $100+tax. I have more shoes than I can run at the moment. I will wait for this version available at discount at the end of the year. The title was quite a bait and switch. Nicely done! 😀
I've seen that price for v1, but it comes and goes so quickly. I saw it once and forgot to grab a screenshot. the next time I went to look for it again, it was already gone
I subscribe to the less is as much as I need. I run every run on all terrain in the Ultra Glides for winter on ice, snow and frozen asphalt. I have transitioned to a forefoot runner and no longer require a max heel stack to drag around needlessly. I believe that my form of lazy heel striking led to injuries. I invested in the book Born to Run 2 and put in the work. These shoes are expensive and aren’t really helpful IMHO.
I was going to ask you how it compared to the Altra Carbon A shoe I would have picked up if it was not for the outsole .. I am 195lbs and would have burned through that base in under 100 miles .. puma grip I trust. 🙂
the toebox from the elite 1 is just painful if one has a bit wider feet. so you say this is corrected or improved i did not have the pain on the outside but rather the inside next to the big toe. If i look at the size comparison at 13:17 the elite 2 does not look any wider than the elite 1. It is a real pity. I like this shoe a lot otherwise. Maybe it helps if i go up a size i usually have.
I think the differences are in volume overall rather than just width. but I would recommend that you try the shoe on in store or find a retailer with a great return policy
@@jimoconnor8597 running shoes are pretty personal some may like it some may not, many disliked boston 10 but you can find many people enjoying that shoe
@@aayusharora2459 Agree. I rotate lots of shoes over 25 pairs). Very personal and what works or doesn’t for a TH-camr really has little bearing on if a shoe will work for u or not
I don’t understand why the plate being closer to the foot (so higher) helps making the shoes feeling more squeeshy. Shouldn’t it be the opposite? Can someone explain pls.
In Romania we are getting crap in terms of availability from Puma. Aleays. So I have to disagree a little.. Europe does not get Puma shoes before you do :).
Looks nice, my only step into plated shoes so far is a pair of endorphin speed 1s and I've wanted to like them but that unbalanced feeling you get just throws me off so much especially when turning corners. I guess it's about getting used to the feeling but I much prefer the close to the ground feeling where I'm in control even if it ends up with me running slower
I’m a pro jumper, do you think this elite 2 would be a better pick compared to the DN2? I’m looking for a very dynamic shoe for jump session, to transition from normal trainers before wearing spikes as I’ve had Achilles problems for a long time, so I am looking for the closest thing to spikes but a bit softer (so I guess carbon plate is a good choice as it stiffens the shoes). Now I wonder if I wouldn’t destroy the elite as we put a lot of force on the ground (compared to basic tempo or even pure sprint). Anyway love your videos!
Those are two very different shoes. Deviate Elite 2 is basically minimalist compared to the SC Trainer 2. And that makes me use the two shoes in very different circumstances.
Puma marketing management clearly ran out of ideas as those namings are clearly either borrowed from Saucony or their team simply did bad job analyzing those namings in a wider context. PWRRUN (+, PB, HG), PWRTRAC, PWRGRID to name a few. What is the goal to name your tech with a name that's already actively used by a neighboring running brand? Poor move, Puma.
IMO this shoe is worse. Heavier, slower, longer, firmer, harsher plate. Not enough to differentiate itself from the competitors which are better at what they do.
Hi Asics man! I am not a puma guy... I am just looking for shoes and I saw some of your vids.. and I can't help but suspect you are biased! Can't trust 100%
“Removing the vowels to make it faster” 😂
9:08 Is where the summary starts in case you are looking for a timestamp for it
I also think it’s better and a perfect complement to the Deviate Nitro and Velocity Nitro. Puma’s line is coming together nicely.
non elite runners seem to be in love with the Endorphin and Nitro lines. super excited where saucony and puma are taking it
one of the reasons I bought this shoe was this review, can't wait to run on them 😊 Thank you Kofuzi!
For sure - that more subtle feeling is what I’ve been looking more for in shoes recently - more me, less shoe
definitely give this one a try

Love the 3rd person perspectives on the run footage here
V1 is so damn cheap at the mo over here it’s a no brainer whilst there is stock

Puma has a 30% off this shoe today, and today only. This will bring the cost down to $120 before tax.
@@wonkydonkey7899 Thanks. I ordered a pair (actually 40% off). They even tell you the code to use for discount. :) $120 is a good price.
Mike, always so well done. Do you plan on reviewing the Liberate 2. and comparing it to the Deviate Elite 2?
Haven't have a puma before.... Want to buy one.... I come to Ko to seek wisdom 💪🏻
Nice use of click bait that isn’t click bait at all, since you get right to the point-and a good point at that. Well done Ko.

Removing vowels to make it faster!! Brilliant
Interesting, great review Kfz!... I removed some vowels to make you faster 😄
"removing some vowels to make it faster" LOL!
Well, it's certainly heavier than last year. Nike did the same thing with the alphafly.
What are your thoughts on the Puma deviate nitro 2 (non elite)?

The toe box is definitely wider at my usual size than the Deviate Nitro 2(I up size it by 0.5)
Puma deviate nitro elite v1 is selling around 90 euros. Is it still worth buying in 2024?
Both shoes are great

"Removing some vowels to make it faster" - I gotta rename to Smrnwski.
Running my 1st marathon in October in a pair of these
Good luck!
How was your experience ??
What does Puma have against vowels? 😉
If you have the deviate nitro elite 1, would you get this 2nd version? If yes, how would you rotate them?
Seems like you and EDDBUD like this shoe.
nice.
But the BITR crew didn't like it.... 🤷♂

How is the comfort feel compared to the Trainer version of the Nitro 2 Line-up?
I haven’t tried the Nitro 2 yet (still waiting for Puma to send me a pair). But I suspect it may be the best shoe in the Puma lineup this year
@@kofuzi you should. You will love it. Nitro 2 is every penny worth to purchase on your own.
I experienced heel slip in the first version of the Deviate Nitro, has version 2 got the same issue ?
I can’t answer this question as phrases because it assumes I also had heel slip in v1, which I did not
I really enjoy V1, but curious to how this compares to the New Balance SC V3.
this one or asics gel nimbus 25? which is better?
They are opposite shoes. Depends on what you need.
Nitro Elite 2 is a workout and racing shoe. Nimbus 25 is an easy run shoe
Thanks for the answer, I think I'll go for Puma, Hope it is soft, light and not too hard on feet
