    I installed one on my T3 300WSM. It really did help with the groupings. Its now on there and never taken off. It worked for this rifle. I just leave it on. My brother-in-law laughed about it. But I just said well... its useful when you have it on there in your hunting rig. Its the same idea as bow stabilizer. Harmonics. Simms have been in that business for years.

    There are barrel whip and there are barrel resonance. Most what people thing is resonance is whip, this wouldnt do anything for the amount of forces on the barrel. The resonance it could effect which would potentially effect follow-up shots but it would just effect changing the resonance and each barrel, thickness, material, bore, temperature will impact it. You would need to find out the resonant frequency of the barrel and adjust the ball thing accordingly, now if that will actually do anything for your accuracy. I would say no it wont. Because if it did it would come on your gun and you would see PRS matches with all of them on their barrels 15 years ago.

  • @BryanShull-lt8gz

    The instructions are very clear, if the barrel is free floated then start the limbsaver near the muzzle to start. If the barrel is not free floated then start near fore end of stock. The way I use it is I get as good a load as I can through reloading and then use the limbsaver to get a little more. I usually find it improves my 100 yard group by 25%.

  • @davidlaney8254
    @davidlaney8254 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Yes, understanding the road to greater accuracy becomes easier once you recognize the basic concept of wanting a bullet to leave the barrel once it has become stationary. Because of natural vibration, this only happens at the peaks of its sinusoidal flex. Barrel tuners allow the shooter to adjust the barrel's flex to make this event closer to ideal. It also points to why different bullet weights and powder charges create varying levels of accuracy, and why some barrels with a pressure post are more accurate than others that are free-floated. Experimenting with the torque of action screws, and especially the front screw, is based on achieving the same improvement for the same reasons.

    Ryan's mug makes me think of Max Headroom... Harmonics - watch Eddie Van Halen tap the beginning of Women In Love - he's hitting notes that resonate harmonically. The guitar string is a certain length between the two ends of the guitar, and if you split it in half, at the 12th fret, you can get a harmonic reaction there - and there are other places you can see that happen along the neck. The best example I can think of is if you think of a bathtub half filled with water, with the same shape at both ends of the tub. Drop something right at the middle, and the waves will propagate to the opposing ends of the tub, and then they will reflect back towards the middle. When the reflections meet at the middle, they cross over and create a peak - there will be other waves as well, but the point here is that the point at which they cross over at the middle is a depiction of a harmonic resonance - cutting the wave at the halfway point... That's not exactly how it works, but I'm trying to paint a picture - if you pick a guitar string, it plays a note. If you put a finger lightly above that string at the 12th fret and then pick the string, it will play that note, but basically, two waves will be generated along that string, and one will go towards the bridge, and the other wave will go up the neck - and once they reach the end of their length, the wave will reflect and go back towards the middle, where they will crossover - think of it as the 0 on a sine wave - so it is technically the opposite of the tub example, but that was to paint a picture of the reflection of the wave. Now, take this harmonic resonance and apply it to a barrel - that's something that should be visible when using a high speed camera, and it makes sense that the Deresonator does its job by splitting the waves so that they bounce into each other at complimentary frequencies. When playing guitar, for example, playing two notes that don't go together can cause dissonance and can be very unpleasant to hear, but when you play complimentary notes, notes that resonate harmonically, it can sound glorious. Last point - about dissonance - if we go back to the bathtub example, dropping an item at the middle gives us harmony when the waves reflect and cross over at the middle, and they'll keep doing that over and over again, with a smooth peak at the middle. But if you drop something a little bit off to one side of the middle, the waves will reflect and then cross over at a point other than the middle, and instead of having smooth crossover at the middle peak, we end up with, over multiple oscillations of the sine wave, peaks that crash into each other at different points, not creating a nice big peak in the middle, but little peaks everywhere that fight each other, and deplete their energy because they're crashing into each other, causing breaking peaks, instead of smooth sine wave crossovers. How much of that plays into the rifle harmonics? I'm sure that's exactly what this device does, and now I am going to buy one and try it out. If you've read this far, when you go out to test this theory, take a high speed camera with you and record the rifle firing, from the side, so you can see the barrel 'wave', and see if you can figure out where to place the device - and make adjustments looking at the film - see how it affects the 'wave'.

    If the exact Ammo is out of production...
    We would accept using the same rifle, with a variety of similar ammunitions. You've done that for the ballistic gel tests,
    Copper this, binded that, cup and core, etc etc.
    See what performance it averages over several 3 or 4 or 5 shot groups... With each ammunition type...
    Then add the 'device', and see if that rifle... Tightens up.

    The answer to the question “does it work”, is maybe. I tried this on two different guns. I have Remington 700 in 308 and it was a 1 1/2 “gun regardless of what kind of “tuned” handload I put through it. This thing turned the gun into an under 1” guns all day. I got so jazzed I put one on my Browning Abolt 7RM which was a 1” at best. It made no difference whatsoever! I’m thinking barrel metallurgy plays a bigger part. The Remington was a later model when Remingtons reputation was suspect.

    "Deresonator" is probably the wrong term - it's really a "harmonic tuner"where you're adding mass to a system to *change* its resonance point, just like anything else you attach to your barrel (brake, thread protector, sights, etc.) will. Like others mentioned it's a barrel tuner, and it's just convenient to move this tuning mass around to find the right point, and thus the right resonant frequency, for your rifle with any given ammunition. Because it's rubber, or at least rubber-coated, it also won't mar your barrel.
    In principle it's no different than finding the right load for your gun - when you adjust powder charge you're varying how much power is put into the system to start it oscillating (which affects frequency and where in the cycle the bullet leaves the barrel based on bullet speed), with these devices you're keeping power & bullet speed consistent and tuning the mass of the system to change the frequencies involved, and in both cases you want the bullet leaving the barrel while it's "paused" in its oscillations.

  • @justsnuggle
    @justsnuggle 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I had high hopes until you guys started talking about your testing philosophy and realized that if you're wineing about not having enough ammo you're definitely not going to do a scientific test to find the limits of this device.

    Used these on 2 different rimfires with excellent results. There will also be a large shift in your point of impact - you can use this to your advantage. One Savage B mag .17WSM BBL in particular was chambered so poorly that it needed more scope elevation to zero than the scopes turrets allowed for. As soon as the deresonator went on there the point of impact went up by almost 9 inches and put it into a range the scope could be adjusted to. In addition, being rimfires with no hand loads it was useful to tune to different lots.

    Its really just a barrel tuner made of rubber….. same thing can be accomplished with a steel ring with ring with a set screw like i made. i turned it on my lathe in 20 mins and i set it with a caliper but be careful using it with harder recoiling rifles, cause it can move on you, so it is best practice to check it after every couple shots with your caliper cause it can make your gun shoot better or worse it just depends on where you put it on the barrel it is the exact same concept as erik cortina’s tuner break cause it changes the harmonics of your barrel by changing where the weight is essentially

    If you do the test, it should be a factory rifle, unmodified.

    Reminds me of a barrel tuner, Eric Cortina has a few he produces. Another TH-camr (@Gunfather Precision) did something similar with a shaft collar, 2$ barrel tuner video.

    You probably was shooting different ammo than he tested it with. Thats what ima go with. Because that would bebthe only thing that would throw it off if its in the wrong place for that ammo. Especially if there's a big change in weight and speed.

    The “Doinker”. Go with it. Make it the official name for the device. Embrace the strangeness. Does look silly, but works.

      A doinker is already a thing. They make stabilizers for archery. The Doinker even looks similar.

    I feel a little bad for Mark after getting railroaded by a couple guys with a barrel doughnut. But mostly because he should be able to save the ammo he likes for his gun thats not available anymore. That seems important to him.
