I do this often in my 15 cx 5 touring. I live in NH and we've had our share of snow. I found that the max snow I can't get out of is 15" of town plowed snow in front of my driveway. Other than that I've been through 12" untouched snow with no snow tires and no problems at all. Great reviews my good sir
Hey there from PEI Canada! Recently I checked over my '06 HHR, it needs too much work. I replaced a lot of parts in the last five years so we decided to drive newer. We visited our local Mazda Dealership which treated us right from the start. We drove a CX 5, CS, AWD and we were impressed. Although it's a 2015 it has the tech our HHR didn't. We travel approx 450 kms, one way to Cape Breton each month so AWD was a must this time around. I must say that this car/suv drives like a sporty car with suv capabilities. As outlined by your informative reviews. Very responsive and super fun to drive! With what's available for suvs to choose from I must thank you for reviews like these...navigating the car world can be a lot of work. Canadian winters are no joke and this time...we're ready to have fun while driving...with the snow any day now. As an Automotive Service Tech not usually impressed by cars...this one does! I'm happy that Mazda left Ford also. Thanks again. Please keep up the good work.
I bought my 2016 CX-5 Touring AWD partially because of these off road reviews. I spend most of my time driving on pavement, so driving dynamics matter a lot to me. However, I wanted a vehicle with some off road/snow capability, and I got it!
Hey Dave, thank you for the snowy off-road review. I love my 2016 Mazda CX-5 AWD, and I am looking forward to testing it in some serious New England snow.
I really love the Mazda CX-5 best known for its value, handling and performance. Besides the Nissan Rogue the CX-5 is on my listed in being the best crossovers ever Zoom - Zoom a very impressive SUV for the money. MAZDA RULES!!!
Nissan have gotten a lot worse in reliability. I am deciding on a 2017 Mazda CX-5 or 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. I know Mazda will be more fun to drive plus has more HP but I think the Subaru might be better off-road which I do but it is light offroading.
I drove through upwards of 27 inches of snow in March of this year, and the Subaru got me through it. The 18 will be better offroad with the added X-mode coming standard on all Crosstrek trims. Crosstrek has more ground clearance too.
Would have liked to see you tackle some of that less-well-driven-on snow so we can see how the CX-5 would do on those mornings after a fresh snowfall, before the plows come. But otherwise, pretty darn impressive! Thanks for the video!
good job Dave! I cannot believe is went up and down all the gradient passes with the all season tyres(UK spell). impressively executed Dave. well done
HI Dave, can you have the camera's pointed to show all 4 wheels and then additionally please stop on an uphill grade, so we could see how the system handles wheel slip and how it can allocate power to the other wheels? Love the off road reviews, just wish i could see which systems can actually send power to all the wheels, rather that just a wheel in the front and a wheel in the back, based on these open differential systems, with wheel braking. Thank you Dave.
Love your work Dave! I don't know if that blonde guy you used to work with is your buddy or not but I am glad you left him. And if you used to work at TFL Car, I'm glad you left them too.
A good friend of mine has a 2016 Mazda CX-5 and I've driven it and it's a great car but I still prefer my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4wheel drive.. Maybe it's the difference in horsepower.. But all in all great review! Love watching your reviews.
I have the exact model your driving. I have winter tires that I swap out because the 19's it comes with will spin and leave you stranded. It does need more power (2017-2018..). Its definitely not something to thrash or climb with, you will regret it.
I have a request. I would love it if you'd do another one with the next sizes up. From where these left off, - the next class of vehicles. I'm shopping for a CUV or sedan, and choices are so poor it's not even funny. I need something between 170 inches to no more than about 184 inches. You'd think the web would have a concise index of all cars sorted by length, - but in America, no dice. It drives me nuts.
Depends where you live. I am in Central Oregon and we get a ton of deep snow. I live in the country so plows don't make out here very quick and I'm most concerned about my loooong gravel driveway as I don't own a dang plow 😳
Rick Deckard sorry about that, at least the thumbnail and the information in the video indicated 2016, I just changed it in the title. Please forgive my typing error.
I drive large SUVs/pick ups; however, I leased a 2016 CX5 for the wife and she loves it. The vehicle is just fun to drive and has great lights. The 2017 will come with a heated steering wheel. Hope it gets the auto rear lift gate and memory seats as well. Here is a link to Mazda's press release for the 17. insidemazda.mazdausa.com/press-release/2017-mazda-cx-5-global-press-materials/
xTheShady1x false! idk who told you that but they both use i-activ AWD which ok, you could say it's on demand but it doesn't wait for a tire to slip like most other cars in this class
It handled the snow like nothing! With all seasons too. Good job Mazda

I drive in that same stuff every day in the Winter, now I'm getting a CX-5 to enjoy my daily drives!

I live in Minnesota and am buying one of these. I wanted it for the AWD capabilities. Thank you so much for confirming its snow traversal ability!

Love love love it!! Love the Mazda CX-5!! Great review Dave!!😀
I test drove one on really sketchy back country rural roads after a snow. Felt good. My road is dirt and they refuse to plow.
Absolutely love my 2016 CX-5! Turn that tcs off and it drifts like a dream here in New England! Great videos!!

Ramon Carter Nissan sucks in reliability
Avoid the Nissan CVT.

jmen8888 The Mazda CX-5 is better for snow

impressively executed Dave. well done
Hey Dave. Glad to see this CUV off road in the snow. Happy New Year Bud!
that is quite impressive considering it is equipped with all season tires.
Yeah those backup cameras don't always help (bright lights, nites, etc). But it has helped to see around large vehicles in parking lots.
Hi Dave. Love your offroad videos! Hoping to see the 2017 Honda Cr-v get the same treatment soon!
Mine has been sliding all in the snow...what could be wrong??
Tires

Cool Hand Luke Sorry, I can't fit any more cameras on the car... I think the angles are pretty good.
Love your work Dave! I don't know if that blonde guy you used to work with is your buddy or not but I am glad you left him. And if you used to work at TFL Car, I'm glad you left them too.
actually Nathan is cool. Roman is the guy i could not stand.
is the car on winter tires? or all weather tires?

Do you have any info on the 2017 diesel model coming to the US this year?
how does this compare to the 2016 subaru Forester
What tires were on it? The stock Geolanders?
Are those snow tires or stock all season tires?
I have the exact model your driving. I have winter tires that I swap out because the 19's it comes with will spin and leave you stranded. It does need more power (2017-2018..). Its definitely not something to thrash or climb with, you will regret it.
Did Mazda add the rear climate control vents?
From the videos I've seen, the 2017 model will have rear vents.
sick man see if you can get a Miata RF
Hey Dave big fan. How do you feel this did compared to the '15 CR V you took snowy off roading before?
You have to say yee haa after you mention dukes of hazzard. Nice video
"Glad to be driving in tracks. I wouldn't want to be caught in deep snow.' Not a great vote of confidence.
No heated steering wheel? 😣
Can you please drive the cx 9 in the snow?
No its HUGE!
G Baking yes

hello :) will you test drive 2017 mazda 6 ?:)
jamin2222 most likely - Mazda is very good to me!
Everyman Driver great, see You in the next videos :)
2017 CR-V PLEASE and Thank you :D
wow tons of effort on your videos. you really go all out. (note sarcasm)
i have done deeper snow witht my 2013 CX5
Not 100% sure we learn too much from off-roading in such deep snow. Hardly a common situation but hey ..great video anyway
Depends where you live. I am in Central Oregon and we get a ton of deep snow. I live in the country so plows don't make out here very quick and I'm most concerned about my loooong gravel driveway as I don't own a dang plow 😳
"Only a 7" screen" LOL!!!!
buildmorefarms100 why do you need a bigger screen in a car? If you want to watch videos get an ipad or a tv
I never said it needed a bigger screen, I was quoting Daves remarks! That's why the words are in quotation marks....lol
2016

All good thanks love the channel!

Isn't the AWD system on demand? 2016 CX-9 uses on-demand AWD.
xTheShady1x false! idk who told you that but they both use i-activ AWD which ok, you could say it's on demand but it doesn't wait for a tire to slip like most other cars in this class
Subaru wins every time a comparison is made in traction. They still make the best AWD cars.
Heck! I could have driven down the same road with my FWD Accord.
90% of this road test could have been done with a front wheel drive. Come on man!
2016.5
so basically Mazda gave you a car and said go make us another commercial so that we can clear out our remaining inventory.
Sun directly in your eyes ? Shame there's not some kind of hat you could wear to combat this. 😊
👌👌🖒🖒
