    It was this entire show not just this song that brought Elvis “back” as an entertainer. He had not performed as a singer in about 8 years because he had been making movies.

    Elvis Presley Started it all and knew music and he knew how to perform it and ELVIS knew how to present it. Elvis Presley was a genius at producing and arranging. He is KING for a reason. The bands and single artist that came during and after just imatated and was influanced by The King ELVIS PRESLEY. They just presented it in a different way. 'Before Elvis There was nothing'', The worlds light was dim, When Elvis Aaron Presley emerged on the seen. He shattered everything that was dark and lit the world with light so bright, like no other before or since. God created Elvis Aaron Presley to change the world. Change the world he did. To make it a better place. He gifted Elvis Aaron Presley with his greatest gifts. Bringing The greatest gifts of looks, vocals, hair, style, charisma, charm, stature and grace. He Brought joy, happiness, love, generosity and caring to this world, and The World crowned Him KING. Elvis Aaron Presley was"Unique and Ereplceible in a world of duplication''. The Icon, The Legend. The Untouchable. The Immortle, The incredible, The King of Influance, The King of song. The King of vocals. The master, The King of style, The King of charisma. The gladiator and King of stage. Your mum had great taste!!! Elvis had been away in the army for 2 years from 1958-1960 and then was contracted to only make films for 8 years. The Comeback Special was Elvis again performing to live audiences, his favourite thing. Listen to his rendition of In the Ghetto, another song as relevant today as it was all those years ago. There is a lot more to Elvis than the caricature of the man that is pushed by the media and the Vegas Tribute artists!! 👌🕺💕

      @@BobBradford Your mum would be so chuffed that you are now getting what she loved. My children ribbed me about my love for Elvis( since I heard his voice on the radio when I was 3!!) Then my youngest saved up for 10 years and took me to Graceland for my 60th birthday and now she loves him too. FYI Graceland is the 2nd most visited house in America after The Whitehouse!!👌💕🕺

    I was 17 in 1968. It was an exciting night because he had not performed live for several years. This was the last song that he sang on the 68 special. I cried through this song. It was amazing! He put so much emotion into this song.

    His manager didn't want him to do this song. It was a protest song for that time. He took a risk just doing it, he supported King and was upset when he was killed 8 mills from his home in Memphis. I live during his career, and what people don't know is his deep faith, his generosity and his love of his fans. React to "Elvis Presley a Generous Heart", sorry you had to cut the song down. Thanks

    It WAS released commercially. It reached number 12 on the chart. It should have gone higher but it did put him back in the top 20 after about a 2 year drought. He subsequently went on to take over Las Vegas and chart even higher with other songs including In the Ghetto, Suspicious Minds, Don’t Cry Daddy, You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me, The Wonder of You and Burning Love.

    MEMPHISROCKS1, Elvis Aaron Presley is King of Music, the true Monarch for a reason, He started it all. The first of everthing music and entertaining. He Smashed the door down for more artist than any one before him, and opened the flood gates for artist that might not have never been heard. God made him and gifted him to be the greatest, The King of music, it was his destiny. He was not racist he loved and cared about everone. His music transcends time, It is timeless. As John Lennon said ''Before Elvis there was nothing''. Elvis Presley's influance on music and artist of all ages are endless. Too this day his music is as big today it was back when he was still living. He is still earning gold records.The Icon, The legeng, The untouchable, The Gladiator and King of stage. The King of song. The King of style, Elvis Aaron Presley. Greatest of all time. 1935 Untill the end of time.

    Hello - new sub. A little info on this song: As per the producer-director of the '68 special -- Steve Binder -- Elvis, Binder & others were together in the studio when they heard noise coming from the TV in the next room; it was the TV news broadcast that Robert Kennedy had just been assassinated. Binder, Elvis, et al sat up until about 4 a.m. talking about the turmoil in the world at that time w-Elvis expressing his thoughts & feelings, also the assassination of Pres. Kennedy & Vietnam. Binder asked songwriter Walter Earl Brown to compose a song based on those discussions. The song is notable for its similarities to Martin Luther King’s wish for a world of peace and harmony. The red tie was for the blood shed in Vietnam. See the video "Graceland: Secrets of the '68 Special" for the story of the '68 special, + all the other Binder video interviews regarding the culmination of the song & the entire special.

    Nice reaction that needed me to adjust to the editing, (many reactors make a hazy/blurred screen). The song was issued as a single back in 1968 and sold a few million.

    If I Can Dream was written by W. Earl Brown as a request by Elvis in response to the assassinations of MLK and Robert Kennedy, in 1968.
    Producer Steve Binder says that Elvis passed out after the 5th take because of the emotion he put into the song.
    The song was released as a single - b/w Edge of Reality - peaking at #12 on Billboard.
    The Comeback Special was filmed between June 24-30, 1968 and released in NBC-TV on December 4, 1968

    @emerald1805 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This song WAS released in 1968/69 on vinyl. It has been available ever since then. It was NOT a political statement. Closer to a spiritual statement. All his Grammy awards were for gospel, not rock. If you want to see Elvis really into the song - just watch some of his gospel performances. Even his gospel jams or rehearsals. That’s what he first wanted to sing.
    This didn’t ‘save’ his career…it was his return to singing live, after starring in movies for the prior 8 years. He had the “starring” role in 31 movies.

    He did not sing a Christmas song in this special well he sang Blue Christmas so the Colonel would shut up. Otherwise the special was Elvis raw and powerful rock n roll and blues. The gospel number is epic in this special u really need to see it on your own time. The Comeback Special is Elvis Presley at his most beautiful and best.

    Elvis didn't write this song. It was written for Elvis by a guy named Earl Brown. As I recall, the two men had a conversation in which Elvis talked about his thoughts on the state of the country at that time. Earl Brown was so moved by Presley's passion about the recent assassinations (especially of Martin Luther King Jr) he immediately wrote the song for Elvis so Elvis could express his feelings in the way he did best..... through music.

    he didn't write his songs. also, this isn't or wasn't a political statement; it's a song about humanity kindness and love. put him 'back on the map'...Elvis was moving back into more music rather than films....don't think he's ever been 'off the map' Seems we're MORE divided today than ever before thanks to Trump Repubs & his MAGAts....literally fighting years for equal civil rights... while all his white Repubs now taking them all away...it's outrageous.

    • @BobBradford
      @BobBradford  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I read he wrote this song because of many things going on in the world. I believe Robert Kennedy was just killed and MLK this song was written to bring people together.

    • @Elvista
      @Elvista ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Elvis has almost 800 songs to his name.....most of them originals. He co-wrote, changed lyrics and arrangements, for many of them but chose not to have his name listed....except for 'Love Me Tender'. He did work on this with the songwriters as well. EP was once told, if you can't say something about what you believe in....sing about it. This was his "peaceful protest in song", about allowing humanity to walk hand-in-hand in harmony.
