I can not thank you enough for posting this. My 83 GL1100A has 38000 on it and no shops around me sync carbs. I bought the exact sync unit you are using and the instructions are fairly vague. You have answered all questions I had in this video. Thank you.
The long and short brass tubes are for inline four engines. The two long tubes are for the inner carbs and the short for the two outer carbs. Great video and explination. I'm thinking of getting a 1980 GL1100 that the owner says it idles rough sp I'm sure I'll need to clean and adjust the carbs.
Thanks Scott! I put a link to the gauge set in the video decription. I didn't pay that much, around $50 I think it was. It came with vacuum hose that split after a few weeks which I replaced.
"How about putting the hose on the 5mm tube before screwing the 5mm tube into the intake?" Try that some time with the hoses connected, not very easy to do because the hose twists. It's easy to put the hose on after but do support the tube with one hand while putting the hose on.
Hi, I am about to sync the carbs on my 1977 GL1000. I wish you'd clearly numbered each gauge as it seems you have 2 and 4 together followed by 1 and 3 together. My borrowed gauges are 4, 3, 2 and 1 in that order. Now I followed you balancing the left side with the right side but I'm sure you also said front and back also. Perhaps I heard that wrongly?
+Pamela Matthews Most Compression testing and Carb testing kits are universal and include adapters to fit most bikes. If a kit doesn't include the correct adapters or hose sizes you can always find the correct ones later on. The 75-79 GL1000's are pretty similar to the GL1100's so the process is very similar.

The reason for the staggered length tubes is so the unit can be used on inline 4's like the CB750 or Z-1.
i believe the screw in the middle is to balance the 1 to 3 and 2 to 4 and the one next to 4 is to balance left to right

how common is it for these gold wings to hydro lock? I can get one for 300 bucks only 20k miles but engine is seized.

Pretty common if the gas is left turned on but that's not the reason for seizing. Many are unseized and run fine.
