Nah, I don’t agree with that. I was around back then. I can’t speak for BoyzllMen, but with Jodeci, they were going to blow for a fact. The marketing around Jodeci was crazy hype. Especially when they debut with Father Mc and Mary j Blige. No shade, I rock with Troop from day one. I also remember Special Generation 1990. First single I believe is Love me Just for Me, classic. Even in the rumor mill back then about them was the lead singer sounding too much like Ralph Tresvant, the was the word back then.

Troop definitely had the show aspect better than a lot of there contemporaries … but nothing was stopping those vocals and the masterpieces forever my lady / stay/ come and talk to me period !
Jodeci is my favorite but in all honesty Gotta Love (their first single) did not hugely pop. If it wasn't for the follow up ballads, they may not have blew. They were introduced via Father MC and all like you said but idk about an automatically blow. Troop's issue imo is the two main lead singers beefed out and then seemed to have took the other members for granted. Plus, the Sylvia stuff. That's what their Unsung episode indicates.
@shaundasmith7765 That what I was saying. Gotta Love was your garden variety run of the mill NJS track. If the Forever My Lady single wasn't released, history would have told a different story.
Man, I used deal with someone who knew everything about Sylvia, and I lost ALL respect for her once I found out what she was all about. She was like Hurricane Chris crying about 50 when L.A. Reid became the president of Arista. When the Epic job came through for L.A. she nearly lost her mind.
I don't like what happened to Kelly Rowland with Universal/ Republic that label dropped the ball on her talk a good game release that album was fire they should have listened to her ideas for promo 😢.

What the hell is he talking about let's be honest vocal wise troop had nothing on jodeci or boyz II men troop vocally we'rent all that vocal wise now dancing they were great
I think he's more talking about touring than vocals. Like maybe comparing Whitney to Janet. Janet is an entertainer, Whitney was the voice tho at that time. I wish Troop would have had more output.
What is he talking about with B2M, Jodeci and Dru Hill? B2M came out in 91 Troops album came out in 89 and the next in 92 during that period. B2m had no problems getting on the radio and was not on BIV10 records. Biv 10 records started in 92 or 93. Dru Hill came out in 96 or 97.
John John is speaking the truth about N.E. He’s a fan and friend of the group. I met him at their Star Ceremony and he had on an N.E. chain. He respects them and showed up along with many other celebs that day. I have photos with him 🙌🏾
Jodeci & Troop Were in 2 drastically different Lanes They're incomparable in my opinion. Sylvia Roane was doin' Everybody Dirty bacc Then. Demetrius Shipp was in Troop?! Neva knew dat.
Troop is probably one of my favorite groups of all time, along with New Edition and Blue Magic. I think poor management, being inactive, and greed (by Allen and Steve) hurt the group. There is no reason why this group should not have been bigger - they had a combination like no other (songs, voices, and stage presence). I will say their momentum died with the Deepa album. The first lead single, "Whatever it Takes" was a poor choice of single, and it didn't help that Rodney B had broken his arm. Part of Troop's power was their dance routines. That was not present during their first video for Deepa. Anyone who were lucky enough to hear all 5 Troop albums, were treated to 5 great albums. They are so underrated.
@@musiclover-cn7tb I saw them live once in Atlanta....and it was years later - like in 2010. Rodney B was not at that show. I grew up in New York. New York loved Troop, but they hardly came through. @Trollbot007 I agree. You kind of have to evolve as you go. Mary was mostly dance New Jack Swing and evolved with each album. While I hate all ballad artists, it's about having variety.
@@MichaelCDavis1 So true…everything got New Jack Swing heavy…NJS also had a feely problem…the chords were dark and didn’t do well for mood which is key to music. New Jack Swing had to get jazzier a bit to really catch on. In fact, early 90s R&B simply used the same drum configs (bright drums), slowed it down, and made it jazzier.
