Not just in the entertainment industry. I was a teen in the 90's and it was commonplace. All of my friends who were 12 and 13 had boyfriends well into their 20's. I was a late bloomer unlike they were and I still had older men going after me. It wasn't talked about and no one batted an eye to it. So very sad.

Not to excuse his behavior but back in the 90´s early 2000 it was pretty common for 16/17 years old to date guys in their early twenties. Older guys would come to pick up their girlfriends in high school all the time. What’s more concerning is the fact that he was her senior in the industry, like a mentor ( which gave him an ascendant on her ) and that her mother actually pushed her to date him. Back in the days girls would date older guys but of course our parents did not know and would have absolutely not approved. I remember back-in-the-day when you wanted to get close and spend time with a guy you were "feeling" and he was too old for you to date that meant It had to be in a group setting, connected to people you both knew. And occasionally talking on the phone. Although I grew up in a time this wasn't talked about often, I don't encourage underage dating but as a teenage girl it felt natural to me to be attracted to older guys back then----preferably college guys. I don’t have a dog in the fight, however, this sort of relationship is not uncommon in other countries & yes even here in the US. All they have to have is the parents permission which they apparently gave their approval. For example, if they wanted to get married during that time, they could have legally as long as the parents consented. I have great aunts who were married @ 14 & had children as teenagers. Now, are there mental & emotional repercussions of this? Sure, but these types of situations do happen. We’re only hearing about this because these are celebrities. I pray Brandi really seeks out Jesus & the additional help she needs so that proper healing can come into her life.
