What Stormcloaks like to forget is that Tiber Septim aka Talos, the man they worship, spent his whole life building the Empire. So by tearing apart the Empire it's a spit on Talos' face.
Technically stormcloaks see the current state of the empire as the insult to Talos/Tiber septim. The capitulation to the elves, white gold concordat, hell, outlawing Talos worship. From their perspective the empire has become illegitimate and functionally disowned Talos.

I could give a long winded speech about how the Imperials are thinking big picture and the Nords aren't, but I think it best summed up as this: "The Nords are playing checkers for Skyrim, the Imperials are playing chess for the entire Empire." Only one is thinking long-term.
I remember hearing a story, anecdotal, possibly not true, but that's how most fables are: not factually true in every detail, yet containing truths. It went something like this: A young man, well educated from the city, was traveling through the country by bus and stopped had to stop at a spot while waiting for the connecting bus to his destination. The Nords may be playing checkers for skyrim, but so long as they win that simple game, they have all they want. Emperialism is never satisfied.

Kisu actually the dislikes do affect the recommendation algorithm and with the new system of videos getting ad blacklisted I don't doubt that is also has an effect.
As most players,I went with the Stormcloaks first,and after playing both sides,with the main quest still going,I felt like Ulfric didn't really care much about Skyrim,he cared more about power and his reign,while it's true the Empire made a pact with the High Elves,it wasn't a friendship pact,it was a necessary cease fire,just like Rikke said to Ulfric "Because of the war you brought between us,the elves will find our armies weak and unable to fight",he uses the Dragonborn to get to power,since,in my opinion a true nord if requested by the Dragonborn to do something that might contribute to the end of Alduin,wouldn't fucking think much and right away give his help to the Dragonborn,instead,he saw the need of the Dragonborn as an opportunity to further his strategic position in a war (He fucking chose to advance in his created war than ending THE EATER OF WORLDS ffs) and to top it all off,Jarl or not,he had no respect for the Dragonborn ,not like the other Jarls. The Stormcloaks are a blind group of rebels that are trying to make Ulfric High Kind of Skyrim and trying to break off from the empire (just like a state that tries to get independence from a country). The Empire was the dominant group of military,that only wanted the war to end because they needed their armies strong and they needed the help of the nords in case the elves wanted to break the White Gold Concordant. The fact that Ulfric knew of the danger the war imposed not to NORDS but to HUMANS (NOT ONLY BECAUSE OF THE ELVES BUT ALSO BECAUSE OF ALDUIN)and still went for the power he wanted,made me lose respect for the Stormcloaks,hence,sing the song of Aggression,because that's what it is,Aggression,as much as The Empire not letting Skyrim be independent is a much needed Oppression.

This song gets me everytime. When you think about it, Ulfric abused his own people. You've got the racism in his own hold, the conditions of allied holds like Riften and Winterhold. He learned the way of the Greybeards just to use it to an unfair advantage in a duel with the High King. Murderous, mischevious, little fur wearing Nord. I kill him every time.
i agree with you on everything except on his use of the voice,he originally was to become a member of the Greybeards but went off to fight in the Great War with the Aldmeri Dominion...the war warped him and he gained a great hate for the elven races, when the Empire signed the White-Gold Concordat he got very angry and so killed the High King in order (in his own view) to rescue Skyrim and its people form the Elven oppression, this led to the Civil War, as Skyrim was a part of the Empire and so the laws of keep-what-you-kill did not apply and were classed as murder so Ulfric became and outlaw/rebel in the eyes of the Empire, the Great War can also be what led to his racism, but there is not ingame dialogue or writing that says weather or not he was racist towards elves before the Great War (to the length of my knowledge)...sorry for the long read =)
Zakahriyah F i also forgot the mention that Talos was a Nord by birth and was supposedly raised to a divine level by the other 8 divines, the Elves believed this was Blasphemy and tried to outlaw his worship after the concordat signing, so this is another reason why Ulfric and many other Nords hate the Elves..unfortunatly for the Dunmer they are innocent in all this but are still an Elven race and so are still hated.

Glacier Prince Actually, Ulfric is not racist against elves, at all! he hates the dominion and the thalmor for what they did and are doing, but this is very justified, the thalmor are Altmer remember, if he was truly racist why would he allow Altmer to come into his city and buy homes and set up shop? race is not an issue to the Stormcloaks, sure they may question why someone who isn't a nord would want to fight for Skyrims freedom, but that is pretty reasonable, isn't it? Ulfric, when he became Jarl of Eastmarch nullified the terms of the White-Gold Concordat in his hold, his people would be free under his rule, this was unacceptable to the empire who sent soldiers to end this "rebellion", Ulfric tried to convince the other Jarls that the empire was not worthy of them, that they should be independent, but most were fearful of the empires response and so allowed the empire to continue to oppress their freedom and the thalmor to murder their people. When the blood of the innocent was too great, Ulfric rode to Solitude and called Torygg out as a puppet king and traitor to Skyrim, Torygg not being able to deny the truth accepted the challenge and faced Ulfric then and there in the royal court, this was a lawful challenge, but who ever got authority of Solitude after Toryggs death obviously didn't know Skyrims law or didn't care for it, someone like Elisif, how did she put it "it's all a bunch of Nord nonsense" Toryggs death should have ended the empires assault on Eastmarch and a new moot should have been called, Ulfric had the best claim to be named High King and then could have withdrew Skyrim from the empire peacefully, then united with Morrowind, Hammerfell and Highrock to crush the dominion then bring Mede to justice for his crimes during the great war as the Redguards want.

The Last Dragonborn is the rightful heir to the Third Empire. The Septim Dynasty was made of Dragonborn emperors, only one being able to use the Thu'um; Talos. The Last Dragonborn is a full on Dragonborn, being able to take a Dragon's soul. Talos (Tiber Septim) had the same ability but he could only demonstrate the ability of being able to learn a shout by looking at its writing. Technically, if the Septims were all Dragonborn, then the Last Dragonborn is the heir to the Empire.

What Stormcloaks like to forget is that Tiber Septim aka Talos, the man they worship, spent his whole life building the Empire.
So by tearing apart the Empire it's a spit on Talos' face.
Technically stormcloaks see the current state of the empire as the insult to Talos/Tiber septim. The capitulation to the elves, white gold concordat, hell, outlawing Talos worship. From their perspective the empire has become illegitimate and functionally disowned Talos.

I could give a long winded speech about how the Imperials are thinking big picture and the Nords aren't, but I think it best summed up as this:
"The Nords are playing checkers for Skyrim, the Imperials are playing chess for the entire Empire."
Only one is thinking long-term.
I remember hearing a story, anecdotal, possibly not true, but that's how most fables are: not factually true in every detail, yet containing truths.
It went something like this:
A young man, well educated from the city, was traveling through the country by bus and stopped had to stop at a spot while waiting for the connecting bus to his destination. There, he saw an old country bumpkin playing checkers, and decided to pass the time by challenging the old man to a game. Being well educated and from the city, he figured he could stump the country hick, and sure enough, one by one, losing very few of his own pieces, he took all but one of the old man's pieces. Then, in the final move, the old man took his last piece and proceeded to capture every single one of the young man's pieces, and won the game.
The Nords may be playing checkers for skyrim, but so long as they win that simple game, they have all they want. Emperialism is never satisfied.

@@PhantomJavelin they who? one or both groups? The original post was in context of Skyrim, not Thalmor global goals. I could see if Skyrim was a part of the Imperial counter to the Thalmor, but they always looked like they had the run of the place and did as they pleased.

people, if you are stormcloaks, don't dislike just because you don't like the origins of the song. like it instead, because the singing is awesome. Also, dislikes hurt the very same person who sang age of Oppression

Kisu actually the dislikes do affect the recommendation algorithm and with the new system of videos getting ad blacklisted I don't doubt that is also has an effect.
As most players,I went with the Stormcloaks first,and after playing both sides,with the main quest still going,I felt like Ulfric didn't really care much about Skyrim,he cared more about power and his reign,while it's true the Empire made a pact with the High Elves,it wasn't a friendship pact,it was a necessary cease fire,just like Rikke said to Ulfric "Because of the war you brought between us,the elves will find our armies weak and unable to fight",he uses the Dragonborn to get to power,since,in my opinion a true nord if requested by the Dragonborn to do something that might contribute to the end of Alduin,wouldn't fucking think much and right away give his help to the Dragonborn,instead,he saw the need of the Dragonborn as an opportunity to further his strategic position in a war (He fucking chose to advance in his created war than ending THE EATER OF WORLDS ffs) and to top it all off,Jarl or not,he had no respect for the Dragonborn ,not like the other Jarls.
The Stormcloaks are a blind group of rebels that are trying to make Ulfric High Kind of Skyrim and trying to break off from the empire (just like a state that tries to get independence from a country).
The Empire was the dominant group of military,that only wanted the war to end because they needed their armies strong and they needed the help of the nords in case the elves wanted to break the White Gold Concordant.
The fact that Ulfric knew of the danger the war imposed not to NORDS but to HUMANS (NOT ONLY BECAUSE OF THE ELVES BUT ALSO BECAUSE OF ALDUIN)and still went for the power he wanted,made me lose respect for the Stormcloaks,hence,sing the song of Aggression,because that's what it is,Aggression,as much as The Empire not letting Skyrim be independent is a much needed Oppression.
YourMummyMother Also check in the thalmor embassy. there's a document there that proves that the rebellion is a benefit for the thalmor and ulfric is nothing more than a pawn that will help weaken the empire for the thalmor.

This song gets me everytime. When you think about it, Ulfric abused his own people. You've got the racism in his own hold, the conditions of allied holds like Riften and Winterhold. He learned the way of the Greybeards just to use it to an unfair advantage in a duel with the High King. Murderous, mischevious, little fur wearing Nord. I kill him every time.
i agree with you on everything except on his use of the voice,he originally was to become a member of the Greybeards but went off to fight in the Great War with the Aldmeri Dominion...the war warped him and he gained a great hate for the elven races, when the Empire signed the White-Gold Concordat he got very angry and so killed the High King in order (in his own view) to rescue Skyrim and its people form the Elven oppression, this led to the Civil War, as Skyrim was a part of the Empire and so the laws of keep-what-you-kill did not apply and were classed as murder so Ulfric became and outlaw/rebel in the eyes of the Empire, the Great War can also be what led to his racism, but there is not ingame dialogue or writing that says weather or not he was racist towards elves before the Great War (to the length of my knowledge)...sorry for the long read =)
Zakahriyah F i also forgot the mention that Talos was a Nord by birth and was supposedly raised to a divine level by the other 8 divines, the Elves believed this was Blasphemy and tried to outlaw his worship after the concordat signing, so this is another reason why Ulfric and many other Nords hate the Elves..unfortunatly for the Dunmer they are innocent in all this but are still an Elven race and so are still hated.

Glacier Prince Actually, Ulfric is not racist against elves, at all! he hates the dominion and the thalmor for what they did and are doing, but this is very justified, the thalmor are Altmer remember, if he was truly racist why would he allow Altmer to come into his city and buy homes and set up shop?
race is not an issue to the Stormcloaks, sure they may question why someone who isn't a nord would want to fight for Skyrims freedom, but that is pretty reasonable, isn't it?
Ulfric, when he became Jarl of Eastmarch nullified the terms of the White-Gold Concordat in his hold, his people would be free under his rule, this was unacceptable to the empire who sent soldiers to end this "rebellion", Ulfric tried to convince the other Jarls that the empire was not worthy of them, that they should be independent, but most were fearful of the empires response and so allowed the empire to continue to oppress their freedom and the thalmor to murder their people.
When the blood of the innocent was too great, Ulfric rode to Solitude and called Torygg out as a puppet king and traitor to Skyrim, Torygg not being able to deny the truth accepted the challenge and faced Ulfric then and there in the royal court, this was a lawful challenge, but who ever got authority of Solitude after Toryggs death obviously didn't know Skyrims law or didn't care for it, someone like Elisif, how did she put it "it's all a bunch of Nord nonsense"
Toryggs death should have ended the empires assault on Eastmarch and a new moot should have been called, Ulfric had the best claim to be named High King and then could have withdrew Skyrim from the empire peacefully, then united with Morrowind, Hammerfell and Highrock to crush the dominion then bring Mede to justice for his crimes during the great war as the Redguards want.

The Last Dragonborn is the rightful heir to the Third Empire. The Septim Dynasty was made of Dragonborn emperors, only one being able to use the Thu'um; Talos. The Last Dragonborn is a full on Dragonborn, being able to take a Dragon's soul. Talos (Tiber Septim) had the same ability but he could only demonstrate the ability of being able to learn a shout by looking at its writing. Technically, if the Septims were all Dragonborn, then the Last Dragonborn is the heir to the Empire.
