After watching a couple Studio Ghibili movies the last couple days, it reminded me of how creative and artistic movies could be. Movies these days dont have that soul or immersion anymore, or maybe Japanese storytelling and art is just refreshing from an american perspective.
Some of the best animated movies ever made. Beautiful hand drawn animation, good story telling, and most of them are child appropriate movies that never pander to children or assume they are too stupid to get the themes and messages of a movie.
Because they fired everyone but the people in their little hat club, who have no original ideas - no creativity and have been known for thousands of years to steal things and take credit for it themselves. That's why all you're seeing is remakes, bad remakes and any and all original content is from indie producers and online content.. but even that is beginning to turn into the control of the little hat club.
I thought a few times, some of the actors we see today, are still going to be on "TV" when we're on our deathbed. Like Chalamet is what we got. That's the card we drew; somebody decided that's the face we'll see for the rest of our lives.

Why are we sold on crappy corn syrupy looking CGI, terrible scripts, reboots, prequels, torture violence and franchises? Marvel had it's run of brilliance, but now is running out of ideas. Staying true to the source material is a good thing too. Subtly is great for political messages, the hammer to the head approach is alienating audiences. Films like Ferngully, Avatar, Platoon, and Wag the Dog had political messages, but were done so well. Disney, as little as I think of the company, had some great films and entertainment in the 1990's. Writers and Directors had winning formulas for storytelling in the 1980's and 90's.
I blame the writers strike of 2007. I also blame nepotism and ageism. Film students who are hired based on their connections rather then their talent. Screenwriters right out of Ivy League colleges, who have no understanding of the middle or working class, or the subjects they're writing about. The post modern deconstruction of classics. Preaching girl boss feminism at an audience who is in medical debt and can barely pay their bills, is a way to lose money. Throwing aging screenwriters and directors under the bus, and hiring based on a quota. People like Paul Schrader, Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese being disregarded, despite how much they contributed to cinema. Directors such as Ridley Scott who's whole career was spent, promoting strong female characters like Ripley, Rachel of Blade Runner, Thelma and Louise and G.I. Jane, being criticized for being male.
They cover up the lack of creativity, passion, and originality with money, cgi, and popular actors.
