  • Banana pectinata iguanas (Ctenosaura pectinata) are the BEST pet iguana you can have. I’ve recently upgraded the habitat of my trio and have made this video to share how I keep this amazing species.

    Great video. Fresh, edible tree branches (suspended above perches) in leaf are also great enrichment.

    This was so helpful! I’m looking to pick up my first one in a couple weeks, and there’s not a ton of information on them.

    Thank you so much for your video 🙏. Seeing your female makes me more confident that mine is a pectinata (normal phase). Glad to see you feeding adults some insects, wasn't sure if that was OK.

    Just homed a juvenile from the wild... Doing great.. Found out later it wasn't a fluke, there is a large colony based in the woods behind my work..
    I'm very surprised they are already in Tampa thriving..

    I’ve noticed that you don’t seem to post videos anymore. Please consider posting how to breed banana pectinatas!
    I can’t seem to find any information on this topic. ❤ 🙏
    The one person I did reach out to that really knows his stuff only gave a few short sentences on this topic.
    I have since given up thoughts on breeding or thinking of acquiring a female.
    But that could change if I just find some good information.

    Those are beautiful animals and I appreciate you making this video! I was considering getting some myself and I’d like to be prepared. I have a few questions:
    1) What substrate is good for them?
    2) Can you use Repashy grub pie or canned insects instead of live insects for them? I would like to buy some babies but I’m uncomfortable with live insects.
    3) Is it good to let them roam outside of their enclosure? I’ve seen some people have leashes for their iguanas to take them on walks
    4) How do you clean them? I’ve seen some people bathe their iguanas in bathtubs
    5) Does the enclosure smell? Would it be fine to have in a small house or apartment?

    Thanks for the info, not a lot of examples of people keeping pectinata well in indoor enclosures. Do you have any experience with 'Panda' pectinata, and is there care any different?

    Please help me. I just got new banana igunna and he’s a baby, but he’s changing colors to yellow and I’ve offered blueberries and strawberries as treats and offered collard kale even went as far as to offering him crickets to as well I’m thinking about trying Romain lettuce or mustard greens. They said they can also eat dandelions, but I don’t want to feed them stuff outside. Do you have anything else I can recommend?

    They are so calm! I have a pectinata that's 1 year old now and she is still pretty afraid of being touched, so I just hand feed her and hope she gets over my hands. Are they easier to tame as adults as I've heard? I'd like to know how you raised them to be so well behaved

    • @LivingArtbyFrankPayne
      @LivingArtbyFrankPayne  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think if you work with them from an early age it's easier. Just attempt hand feedings and brief handling sessions regularly.

    What basking bulbs are you using 75w or 100w ? Are they the arcadias ??

    • @LivingArtbyFrankPayne
      @LivingArtbyFrankPayne  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      basking bulb wattage will vary depending on your ambient room temps. 75-100 watts would be a good place to start.

    I have a young Banana Pectinata that is close to a year old now. I have had her since she was a tiny baby. She or he will eat out of my hand. However. She runs to the back of the cage when I approach. I was wondering if we should try to get her out and handle her more. Everyone has encouraged me to just keep hand feeding and give her time.

    • @LivingArtbyFrankPayne
      @LivingArtbyFrankPayne  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would try to handle more. Just don't forcibly restrain her if you can help it.

    What is the smallest size enclosure I can use for this species? Is a 75 or 90 gallon ok?

    • @LivingArtbyFrankPayne
      @LivingArtbyFrankPayne  ปีที่แล้ว

      A 90 gallon would be fine for a juvenile for the first year. I would not keep an adult in anything less than 6'x4'x4'.

      I didn’t. I don’t typically measure humidity. Typical home humidity with a morning rain every now and then.
