Always post stupid thumbs ? Nothing special about that powered kite you're flying...
I learned to fly in LA, so i'm used to it. And I learned at VNY in the 90s when we had 600,000 operations a year. it's about half that number now.
@@RandySeverino Illegals ?
wow, I so wanted to see that $100 burger 🙄
Love your videos.
I love watching your videos. I guess I am sort of reliving my youth. My brother and I flew a Cessna 182 around the USA back in the 1970s, including the Los Angeles area. I am a little embarrassed to admit that we once landed at LAX, but we were young and adventurous. The plane was based at Lakeside Airport, which is now called West Houston. it was not nearly as fancy back in the day. My brother went on to have a career in aviation as a pilot for Southwest Airlines. I flew only for myself and friends, but I always worked on upgrading my skills and getting more advanced ratings. I am old now and stopped flying years ago when I was not getting enough time at the controls to stay safe. I am so impressed with the professional way you approach flying and also with your obvious love of it. Thank you for giving this old lady a little of the joy of flying.
So nice, thank you for sharing!
Kay I have to say this might be my favorite video ever. The busy airspace and your calm handling of all of it was amazing.
Agreed, awesome flying Kay !
Well thank you so much! I'm glad you liked it but you didn't give me context on how many videos you've seen. If this is the second one you've ever watch, then being your FAV might not be as cool as if it's your 100'th! lol
@@FlyWithKay I have watched you for two years how many is that
All I can say is I wish I had you as my instructor doing my PPL!! You are great at explaining all aspects of your flights in a cool and calm way.. love how you talk through everything you are doing and I suspect that is just a good habit you developed versus just for the TH-cam audience! Enjoy that new beast of a plane!!
Kay, something you said in this video hit home for me. When I first was learning to fly ( back in the mid 60s ) , my instructor told me that the day I stop learning about this flying thing, one of two things has happened …I have just flown into a mountain OR I have just given my license back to the FAA. I have been flying for over 60 years now and I have always tried to learn something new every flight. We are in a fast moving industry and Things change all the time. FLY SAFE YOUNG LADY.
It is so true with being a pilot!
Your CFI and my writing mentor would get along. He gave me similar life advice.
Thanks!
Thanks "Cookin!" I really appreciate it. :)
That was a great video. Flying into a bees nest like Van Nuys, you were fearless. Great job.
Thanks!
Hello Kay, I would like to admit that this is a brilliant solo flight driving of you in the busy Los Angeles air space. You are a courageous pilot Kay. I love learning flight driving from you
Thanks!
I sure do enjoy watching your trips and flights. The one thing I noticed, especially on the one, is the view from the tail camera. I am amazed and the amount of houses, population, highways that can be seen. The mountains, lakes, and rivers are beautiful. The amount of concentration and radio traffic was astounding. Thank you for sharing.
You are welcome! Thanks for following along!
Looks so peaceful. Just flying along talking with the air traffic controllers on a beautiful day. Seeing the country
This one was a quick trip and with all the radio calls not so peaceful. But the majority of the trip was.
WOW!
Your brain is going a mile a minute PERFECTLY keeping up with all the radio calls and keeping your awesome plane on course/altitude/speed, etc, all the while that you are explaining everything to us in the right seat! You make difficult taxing, and overwhelming stuff look easy, and that is only possible if you are THAT GOOD, which you obviously are! ❤
Thanks James!
Thanks Kay for another outstanding video. Great job with all the radio work, SoCal is always busy airspace. Take care and see you on the next one.
You going to be sitting in the right seat again next week Dana? :)
@@FlyWithKay I'll sit in your right seat any day anytime. Looking forward to the next one.
Zooming in to one your comments. “If you are not willing to learn than maybe being a pilot is not for you”. (Hope I got the quote right). So true. And so true of whatever a person is doing in life. So important to be a life long learner in all your endeavours, whatever they might be. Thank you Key for reminding us that achieving a goal is one thing; putting the effort in to maintain what you achieve is just as important.
If you don't love what you do, you won't want to do it right! Thanks for the kind words.
I'm glad you appreciated the comment.
Great Video. Thanx for working with ATC and not fighting with ATC. You are Professional and thorough, Love that kind of Attitude. 😃
I appreciate that!
Hi Kay! The ceiling was 700 solid overcast when I departed Van Nyes heading back to Louisiana. It was nerve racking to say the least taking off with the mountains disappearing into to fog layer. Seeing Burbank socked in in your video with a hold brought back that feeling again. Great video!
Thanks Earl! I probably wouldn't have flown it had it been totally socked in knowing how busy it is!
As an Illinois "flatlander" I always find the areas with mountains fascinating. I'll have to try that approach on my MSFS 2020 flight sim - the only flying my aviation passion can afford -lol Thanks for sharing the ride.
FYI the earth is round
Sim on my friend!
Kay you handled that tough air space like a seasoned pro, well done! Looked like you greased it to, as best as I could tell from the go pros.
Thank you!
Kay. You handled that busy airspace like a boss!!! Great Job!!
I AM A BOSS! lol - Thank you.
I grew up flying in and out of the SoCal area. Once I got my license it was no big deal. Loved the radio work.
Such a professional. Refreshing
Thank you for your support!
Your ability to multi-task while remaining totally professional, calm and composed is inspiring.
Thank you!
Watching kay fly while I'm at KIAH plane spotting. Life is good
Did you see any 747's landing?
I am in the early stages of learning to fly Following you and listening to all your comms really is an asset to my getting procedures and policies down.
I'm glad it helps.
Always in control of your flying, That's great
I try!
WOW! after all those comms, and a super greased landing nice job!
That was pretty busy. Even in the video you can't tell how much routing they put me through. IT was a LOT!
Thanks for sharing your flying experiences. I used to live in southern California and got my PPL and instrument rating at (KFUL). I can honestly say that your right about how busy it gets in that area. But I can also say that flying in a congested and busy airspace really help improve my flying skills. I really like how you describe what you are doing, it really helps rusty pilots like me keep the mind fresh with aviation. Thank again.
Thanks for sharing!
Great flight Kay. You are such a genuine lady. I really enjoy your videos.
Thank you so much!
HMT to VNY, so close and yet, worlds apart :) Great Aviatrix and a great video, thank you!
You're welcome!
Welcome to VNY, I got all of my flight training there and was a CFI there also for years.
Great video~ brings back memories of my home field. I forgot how busy the radio calls get I’m socal!
My aviation stomping grounds! The inland empire where Hemet resides can be nice and clear while the coast is blanketed with a gorgeous and cool marine layer. Pilots can train VFR and IFR any day! I used to shoot approaches all over the coast during my training to get used to flying in the weather.
Another learning moment, you are a great teasher..fly safe !
You made it look so easy flying through that airspace! 😊
Fly first and then one thing at a time. There was a lot of instructions coming in. :)
Nice job with Kay in her element. I've been to CA many times spending at least 2 weeks a year for 20+ years. A trip like this gives you a different perspective. A lot of desolate land and if you take away the water there is not much land to spare. The first archaic people must have stuck to the shore and got their sustenance from the ocean.
It was a fun trip with a lot of good scenery!
Wow a lot if ATC interaction & lot to watch out for in heavy Air Space ..The ground & Mountain Views are fantastic & Great TD
Thanks a ton
Those views were great. Thanks!
@@FlyWithKay yes they are beautiful Views ... expensive yes but so beautiful I so miss flying no an Pilot but almost weekly a good friend RIP had 2 planes back in the early 90 & id get to right seat a lot on 1 - 4 hr flights Thanks for all you do on uR Channel you have an amazing Lives story i got to see a week o0r so ago ..Stay Safe , Fly High & Fly Often if you Ever find yourself @ Covington Ga airport id love to meet you I still today go & watch take offs & landing very often 4 -5 days a week bc I only love 5 min from this airport
Thank you for the content. Your videos are so entertaining, educational and just overall fun to watch. They're also encouraging. My 9 year old daughter, watches your videos and they inspire her. Thank you.
Tell your daughter to keep her eyes to the sky! Thanks for sharing!
I bet the air traffic controllers enjoy talking to you! Very professional and friendly. Keep it up and stay safe!
A lot of times yes, but they are so busy here you're just a voice on a radio they are trying to move along. Not a lot of time for fun chit-chat in this area.
I worked at Van Nuys Airport back in the late 70's. American Jet Industries was developing a mixed power executive turboprop/jet airplane prototype known as the Hustler 400. Shortly after I left the company, the owner (Allen Paulson) moved his operations to Savannah Georgia and later purchased Gulfstream American.
Thanks for sharing.
@@FlyWithKay Glad you had a safe trip. Thanks for the fly along.
Awesome video, very professional and easy on the eyes too !!!
Nice setup being able to pull up the approach plates on the flight display
Dynon is the BOMB!
Kay another great flight. So glad to hear you verbalize A/C fluids and burn rate, staying ahead of the aircraft. When the controller cleared you for a visual approach he failed to say your callsign. He needs to realize his mistake, so just say "Who was that for?". Cheers!
Kay, you handled that like a professional as usual. And you did it solo! Great job!
I appreciate that!
Hi 👋. Love your show. Awesome you went to Van Nuys airport. Been there many times. Live not to far away. Hope you enjoy Cali with family and friends. God bless
Thanks David!
Welcome the real world Buttercup. This is the Pros world. You did good. Get more of this in your logbook. It is what separates you from the others. Your videos are great for those that are considering this as a career. Good job. Wish I had these forty years ago. I had to learn by doing.
Thanks John!
Great videos as usual . They really help my communications skills in the cockpit stay sharp ! Totally agree also that as a pilot you are always learning . It seems like there is always something I learn from each flight.
Great to hear!
I was working on my PPL checkride prep that day at KWHP. Burbank was like 1/2 mile vis with VV 200 that morning. Whiteman and Van Nuys were sky clear.
Right!
I would love to see a video on how you connect all of your video equipment to your plane. its an awesome set up!
I'm working on that. Thanks!
Great job as usual. I'm a flight simmer who flies the King Air 350 on the Vatsim network and I find these videos quite helpful. Cheers.
Nailed it once again Kay! Busy ATC indeed!! Cannot get over those views from the cameras. So much detail...just amazing. I''ll have to ask about the "Class Charlie, Bravo" etc stuff...what that means maybe on a live stream sometime. Wonderful pleasure flying with you as always
I could talk airspace on a LIVE. Make sure to remind me.
Great Job Kay! You are all over the place with your Piper PA-34 Seneca III.
You have a great geographical advantage living in Texas.
When I had a Seneca II I was based in FLL and making it out the LA Basin would have taken 2 days!
lol - I have a few big trips coming up so stay tuned!
I really enjoy watching your professionalism. I would fly with you anytime, anywhere! My only gripe (minor) is that your panels just can't be seen very well, so when you point something out to us, we can't really see what it is. So, I wish the panels could be seen up much closer. Enjoy and stay safe!
Thanks and I'm working on a solution for that! :)
Kay, have you used the 540 to look up the airport frequencies? Just press FMS, then INFO tab, then Communications and it populates the standby with the freq you press. I’m sure you know but once I started using it, it’s a game changer.
Very professional FlywithKay.
Flash back flying into VNY in the 80’s . Great video!
Thank you! Girls just a want to have fu-uh-un!
Beautiful scenery.... and you handled this great! Loved this VID!
Thank you.
Thanks again for showing video sounds and all a can’t afford to fly but it’s just like being there thanks
I fly in SoCal all the time in my simulator. I love the mountains and it's just a lot of nice scenery. I like John Wayne, Gillespie, French valley, Palm springs, Big Bear. It's all just a lot of fun. And I love learning
I thought I heard it's not called John Wayne anymore but I could be wrong. I tried to get into Big Bear but a fire broke out. Bummer!
@@FlyWithKay Thanks for the reply. I know it's still called John Wayne in my flight Sim. But you could be right.
Great watching you keeping an eye on your controls you do a great job in your own plane , keep safe and sound, till the next time or the next flight.
Thank you John!
Great vid. For those of us flying the LA airspace frequently it is a normal day. I do remember my first experiences though.
Pretty easy stuff.
I'm sure if you do it all the time it's pretty normal. I don't do it all the time! ;)
As one that goes in and out of LA airspace all the time, I have to say seems you did great!
Thank you!
You make that look so easy, Enjoy Your videos ! 👍
As always you are great fun to watch and listen to. I don't know if it's me or what ,but your video is so so clear and crisp amazing. Bravo
Thank you!
We might have shared airspace at some point. I’m a student pilot out of KSMO and I have your channel. I’m a girl, too!! Nice to see another gal taking to the skies. Fly on, sister!!
Beautiful landing, btw! Butter. 🧈
Thank you and I'd say good luck in your training but, if you're dedicated to becoming a pilot, YOU DON"T NEED LUCK! I hope to see you in the skies! :)
@ thanks so much, Kay! I appreciate the comment! ✈️
I'm based in SoCal - you get used to talking to a lot of different controllers. And the controllers are awesome.
Most controllers are really nice. I do come across a bad one once in a while, or at least they are having a bad day. Again, not often.
I learned to fly out of VNY when I was a teen long ago. This brings back memories!
You learned how to get a call in edge wise. It's is sure crazy traffic here in Southern CA. I just got my PP about 1.5 month ago and I live and learned to fly in this nutty airspace. It was more challenging on getting my PP because of all of the traffic.
For sure!
The Seneca III is a great plane. The original Seneca I had 160HP NA engines with only a 3100' single engine service ceiling.
Yeah, I'm loving MystiK!
You are an amazing pilot and a joy to watch, Kay! 👍
Thank you.
Nice job with the complex airspace in the basin.
Thank you!
To watch your single go to complex and do this vid??? You got it!!! A+!!! Enjoyed!!! 👍🏻👍🏻😎😎😎
Thank you.
Kay - I really enjoy all your videos. Do you mind a couple of tips from an old SoCal pilot? 1. In high density areas, don't be in a hurry to turn your lights off. I usually kept mine on below 5K AGL. It really helps others to see you. 2. I would add a checklist item pre-takeoff to make sure your center console arm rest is in place. In the event of heavy turbulence, it might save you some arm or wrist injuries. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the tips!
The AIM recommends keeping the landing light on below 10K feet. If a 747 turns virtually all exterior lights on in Class B airspace on departure, that's a good practice for me in any light aircraft.
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing! Time for me to get back in the cockpit. Just love this stuff!
Why did you leave the cockpit? But yeah, you should be back in there! :)
@@FlyWithKay Life :-). Never enough time. But I'm ready to start flying again. It's time for me to book a refresher somewhere and spend a week getting up to speed again.
Hi Kay it is cool you are finally sponsored by a company like Delete Me. Have fun flying 😀
I owe a huge thanks to DeleteMe for sponsoring this. They have a great service and came through to help support this long trip! Please check them out when you get a moment and see for yourself: joindeleteme.com/FWK
Wow.. I used to walk that mountain close to Hemet Ryan..😊
I grew up near Van Nuys airport and in the 70’s I would always go watch the airplanes land and take off. The CA National Guard used to have a C-31 base at Van Nuys.
Awesome, thanks for the info.
Crazy airspace. Excellent flying.
I've flown in Seattle and San Francisco. Both seem pre-programmed to growl "remain clear of the Bravo!" for anything smaller than a 737.
So peacefully job, I wish to fly with you. Congratulations
Thanks!
I greatly admire your pilot skills. I used to fly with my father during his lifetime. Are you aiming for an ATP rating and an airline flying career? It looks like you’re really on top of your game..
Excellent video, Kay. Beautiful scenery! Cheers!
Cheers!
Kay, I forgot to respond to your question from your last video. For a lovely lake experience in California that has an airport, try Big Bear Lake. It's beautiful up there in the summer, but reservations for hotels are difficult to get and you need to get them early. Love your channel and your cross country flights. Have a great day
Wow! I went to Van Nuy's to fly a friend to big bear. We taxied out waiting to take off and they held us for over an hour because a fire broke out up there. So we had to scrub the flight! :)
@@FlyWithKay We've had a bad summer with fires and I know there was one up there, but it's still beautiful up there when the fires are not blazing! We spent a week up there this summer just to relax and here in the Coachella Valley (you flew right over us!) it was 110-120 degrees and up there it was in the 80's and cool nights. Can't beat the mountain air!
Thank You Beatiful landing😊
Great Flying with you fantastic flight ..Peter retired ex Qantas
Can you get me a buddy pass still? :)
@@FlyWithKay unfortunately Kay my Staff Travel finished some years ago but as a matter of trivial my darling wife Helen (58 years married) Helen had 55 world trips during my employ with Qantas whilst I had 54 ..good going don’t you think ..regards Peter
Yes, KVNY can get busy at times. Like almost all the time. Reminds me of my flying there in the 60s and 70s.
That was some busy airspace. Great Job!
Good listening skills required in LA! lol
Busy is a understatement wow weee great vid Kay you flew the wings off your bird beautifully LET'S GO 💪🏼
Thank you so much!
@@FlyWithKay you need to do what you spoke of on yesterday's live a full vid of nothing but them great camera angles and shots that would be beyond epic
She's by the book. And cool and calm. Professional.
Kay thank you for your videos
I do not know if it is just me or others as well, when ATC is talking i can hear you but cannot understand anything your saying. :) Like the flight it was nice, twin engines are the way to go. Been a fan a while, from SE Texas Orange Bear ❤💯🙏
It's a learned skill in most cases, but I suspect that some people are not able. If I'm in a loud room with a ton of talking and someone says something to me there's like a 1% chance of me comprehending it. But after years of listening to radios there's like a 99% chance of me comprehending both if I'm really concentrating.
Not sure why. Anyone else have this problem?
you really dont want to be doing all that without an AP, it reduces load so much, excellent vid.
Thank you!
Everytime I watch one of your flights I get on MSFS 2020 soon 2024 and fly the same route, from the same runway you take off from to the same approach you take. Using VATSIM (real professional live ATC) Obviously in the same aircraft. This one will be fun 😬 with VATSIM ATC lol They get snippy in the flightsim of you aren't prepared or don't follow their instruction. To add.. I roll back the time you flew your flight to have the same weather. So I fly with you virtually 😁
Good morning from Minnesota! Good episode!
Love your videos and miss flying.
Anyway I used to own a Cherokee 180 and it brought back memories watching you fly little Red.
Hope you stay safe and hope to continue to be able to see content from you. And a small compliment your eyes are amazingly beautiful.
Thank you!
Great video! I love our SoCal controllers.
They're great!
Totally agree. You listen to videos with NYC controller and you realize how good we have it.
@@colinrasmussen9470 right? 😀
That was beautiful into VNY. Thanks to your gopro(s), I was right there with you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Feeling that engine at the beginning in the speaker in my seat makes me feel like I'm riding with you. 🙂 I had one of those Buttkicker speakers but it quit on me, so I replaced it with a bass speaker for my flight simulator. I know it would probably be annoying throughout the whole video, but putting that in at the beginning was a real treat. Good Job in your editing techniques and SHOUT OUT TO POPS!!! 🙂
Thank you and I'll let Pop's know you gave him a shout.
Great flying skills and a top-notch video production.
lol - Thank you
Every pilot wants to hear those words: “16R, cleared to land.” VNY is legendary, and if you fly in there, you’ve done something special on top of a bunch of other special things.
It took them a while to give me those words.
Holy Crap I got a headache from that That"s way to much Going on Good Job Keeping up with that Kay
Trying to stay ahead! :)
Thank you for sharing your vireos with us, I enjoy watching your adventures. I have always had a love for aviation and my goal when I retire in Texas next year is to get my private pilots license. Keep up the videos and God Bless!
