It's fun to listen to your comments Kay. I flew for many years in an Archer and understand your fawning over your Cherokee. I'm 82 and had to give up flying which I miss very much. Keep working with your videos and enjoy it.
25:35 That was me! So one Sunday morning I departed French Valley Airport (F70) and flew to Hemet-Ryan (KHMT) for breakfast. After landing at KHMT and taxing to the restaurant I saw a beautiful Seneca and two young ladies pre-flighting the aircraft. As I got closer to the Seneca I noticed a familiar face: Is that KAY?! IT IS KAY!!! After securing my airplane I walked over and introduced myself. I told her I followed her on TH-cam and was a big fan. Kay is SOOOO NICE! She is so friendly and personable. She autographed my logbook with a fun message and gave me a Mystic sticker. What a co-winkydink!!! That was definitely a very special day. Thx KAY!!
I am a frequent follower of Ms. Kay and Pilot Institute. Kay is awesome! I shared this video on Facebook and suggested to the young ladies if they are searching for a rewarding career to watch this video about Kay’s journey into aviation. I’m 67 retired law enforcement of 33 years and I have always been interested in flying. 6 months ago I started my lessons, however after 3 lessons I had to give it up because of hearing issues. I wear hearing aids and the engine noise was drowning out the intercom and radios. I tried Bose, Light Speed and even in ear headsets. Nothing helped!
Awesome interview. Kay is an inspiration. So skilled and professional. I’m hard pressed to believe she ever has a bad day. The interviewer (did he introduce himself) was also terrific. Such a smooth conversational style yet still covering all the relevant topics. Outstanding presentation skills from both! Well done!
Great to see Kay on this channel. The content about the production was very interesting. I am a video hobbyist and do short production and although the quality of her videos (especially the audio) is so great I had almost not though about how hard this would be. My video editing software has a 'audio normalization' AI function it does a pretty good job of keeping the audio at the same level... her videos keep pulling you back in. Thanks to both of you for what you do. I have followed Pilot Institute and learned a lot for 101 training for my drones.
My first instructor was female. Still keep in contact with her 32 years later. She is a check ride captain with Frontier. She was the best instructor. Super detailed. I occasionally watch Kay as well. She does a great job with her videos
Just discovered your program- not a pilot but I find it very interesting- VET USN AND USCG- my cousin went through pilot training like you did in MICH- now flying for major commercial airline( visit Great Lakes sometime- beautifull- )!!- also have a brother with a A AND P LICENSE- worked on planes and automotive.
My dad was a pilot and I grew up wanting to follow in his footsteps. Unfortunately, my vision prevented me from becoming a pilot so I still carried the torch the best I could by getting my A&P license. I'm currently a T.I. on an army maintenance contract and I love it.
I found this interview fascinating. I will say, I completely agree with Kay in that, I made my initial videos for Me, since Flight training at the beginning was like drinking from a fire hose. I couldn’t distill what my instructor was saying, while experiencing all that was happening in the cockpit. That’s why I decided to start my TH-cam videos from the first day of training. Actually, I started my TH-cam videos and channel before I started Flight trading. But she is correct, I would hear things during training, only to realize that I didn’t really catch what my Flight instructor was saying. The videos really helped me, and I hope that they helped others as well. Definitely a great interview.
Kay I have watched a number of your video and I continue to be impressed with your knowledge and ability . What does impress me is to see how calm you are in all situations.. really great videos on YouTUBE BUT I enjoyed this interview with Greg and my feeling is that you are both great instructors and pilots. I took the part 107 training by Greg and he was a great instructor. Great interview !
Thank you Kay for all you do…. I’m just one of many who watch your videos every day… I appreciate you … and you bring me much pleasure,, thank you young lady,,,
What Kay said neat the end was exactly on how I began with steps of pilot training and was because of 1 of My friends wanting to get His hours in to advance to Commercial Aviation & by fuelling a Boeing 737 as well as other aircraft's with ending up as His Co-Pilot, but could never afford it to continue for full training as a pilot. Noe at 75, I can forget about it but still do have the interest, wishing that I never dropped out at the time I had the chance.
The question about women in aviation. I am a 100 percent advocate for it. I am a Veteran, and they pay for me to attend college, allowing me to interact with young men and women trying to become pilots. I found very early on that the young ladies in their early 20s, all want to have kids within a couple of years. After spending that much time and money to get someone to become a commercial airline pilot, knowing that in a couple of years, they will be gone on maternity leave and many will not come back causes the airlines to pause.
We cannot get away from biology as humans. It puts a pinch in a workplace if any employee goes out on leave, and all the more if it is a highly skilled job. If one of the ladies on the assembly line goes out on leave when she has a kid it is not quite as difficult to get someone in there to do her job, but if one of the female engineers is out on family leave it is rather more difficult. And all the more with how extended family leave is in some states (within the USA) and countries.
I think this happens in some careers, but not aviation. You don’t put this many hours into schooling, training and flight hours and not come back because you had kids. All of my friends that have careers that involved advanced schooling have nannies, kids in daycare or don’t have kids at all because they don’t want to jeopardize their career.
At 0:48…….That is so so true Kay!! 0:48, I have always been interested in airports, traveling, horses, and mountains. I thought I wanted to be a flight attendant so I enrolled in school and realized I was too short. It never occurred to me that I could become a pilot. Honestly I thought that was for men 😮 You have helped to open my eyes, sadly though Im 48, and wondering if Im on the verge of being seen as too old.🤷♀️
For Kay- on your audio levels not being consistent, when in post if you use Premiere you can merge all your audio clips then select it and use normalize to about -10db or -6db :) rather than having to edit each little clip/segment of audio
I don't think I'd have to take any medicine to fly with her. I have to take pills to fly, even just to get on the plane, but her attention to safety is, to me, untouchable.
WOW Kay just mentioned the guy at the Lufkin airport. As you are in to great hamburgers, I lived in Lufkin for a while and the absolute BEST hamburger you will ever eat is at Rays' in Lufkin. LONG term family business. When I lived there (amd may still do it) they are a true 'old style' drive in where you pull under a cover and the wait staff come to your car to take your order. They then bring it back to your car, you eat and turn your lights on for them to come get the tray on your window. They are right across the street from Whataburger. Next time you are in Lufkin try them out if you haven't discovered them yet. ABSOLUTELY best hamburger ever.. its called simply the 'Rays Special'
I cant believe any student would ask " why do I need to know all these systems?" We really dont require pilots to know nearly enough as it stands now. We live in a world where most people struggle to check the oil in a car and check air pressure. Very scary to think about how many pilots we have now flying people around that dont have basic knowledge of the airframe and powerplant they are operating.
I think people do realize that the video doesn't make itself. What they don't realize is how much time (because it varies, depending on video still level) is spent in post...
I very much enjoy her channel and all her videos. That acknowledged, just curious - and it is admittedly none of my business - but from "paycheck-to-paycheck" to OWNING an AIRCRAFT .... seemingly - at least, to me - an enormous mental disconnect.
Enjoyed hearing you talk about creating the content and equipment. I have 3 GoPro Hero 10s, I do use the GoPro Remote so I can start and stop them in flight to conserve battery life. I use Final Cut Pro and Call Outs from FX Factory. I try to keep my 1 hour + flights down to under 10 minutes if Video on my TH-cam Channel.
Kay: Have you ever thought about spending a couple of summers appearing on the air show circuit? You would probably find donors that would chip in for fuel & provide free lodging. Planting a hopeful seed....
I could be wrong, but I believe there was a TH-cam video where there were two women pilots and one was the mother, and the other was the daughter. The mother was the captain and the daughter was the first officer
Your comment about woman in aviation reminded me about when I was in high school there was a news comentator ( a woman )who asked the chief of police why they sid not hire more woman. He said you can not hire people who don't apply for the job. That stuck with me ever since. That seems like what you are saying.
We need to stop "trying to get" women in aviation, but phrase it like you did...making it accessible and helping them realise it is possible, yes....but don't try to force a change in diversity just because. Women are very different personality types than what a technical vocation typically attracts, and that is perfectly normal. There is nothing wrong with an imbalance. Why are we not trying to get more men into flight attendant positions in the same manner? Or more straight male costume designers? Because it just doesn't fit our personality! And that's OK too. The biggest roadblock to aviation are: Money, and Risk. I got my PPL, tried working on CPL (and was very successful....top PPL at my flight school).....but it was money and life circumstance which held me back. 4th time was the charm. 9/11, recession, mom's health, Covid......I'm done with flying now, and the cost is close to double of what it was when I started. Borrowing money in Canada is not like in USA....but borrowing money in any sense is usually a bad and more expensive idea. Doing that, plus paying for an airplane, and all the travel, is financial insanity.
Why do we "want" to get more women in aviation? Are they better pilots? Better question: Are there any barriers in front of women pursuing an aviation career or interest and how do we eliminate them?
When I left college at ni wtern I still gad big impossible ideas not realising I was very very nentslly ill didnt k now it. But I wanted yo ve a journalist spent 20 years caring for mum. Never at thst point had issues feeling su ideal at 31 was afraid of dying boy how the years have changed, I'm definitely nit same person. 9/11 came along I realised how fragile life was I realised how vunerable you are when you're not in control not realising I had a mrntsl illness that lies round bring in control how out of control uou were if somrone hijacked a plane hiw in that situation you had no control of your own death I then quickly found no a journalist job was a pie in sky idea roll on 2027 with ny severs mentsl illness id never get cover especially eith my suvide attempt history to gly in a glider never mind a plane now since watching aviation stuff no me stay 300 mile away from a plane and a airport no thanks terra firma is for me
Her being Safety conscience has escalated her to top drawer ICON pilot. She in doing this one aspect makes us impressed and confident her media is very credible and worthy of our time. Perhaps a question here, have you considered the tasks of being a delivery agent/currier while in your ventures? Pick up a few extra while traveling.
Thanks for stopping by, Kay! 🙌
great video!
You pilots are truly a rare breed. Not everyone can do what you do and do it well. I really admire Kay and others like her.
It's fun to listen to your comments Kay. I flew for many years in an Archer and understand your fawning over your Cherokee. I'm 82 and had to give up flying which I miss very much. Keep working with your videos and enjoy it.

Videos at airports with museums would be cool.
There's one close to home at Mt. VERNON TX. and if you're in SoCal again Chino Planes of fame.😊

Kay is da’ BOMB. Would fly with her any time anywhere. Consummate professional.
I really like your camera locations. You've got it just right! Also, I don't like 360 cameras. Your system is great.
Very nice Video !!

The university in my city recently opened their flight school- Marshall University and offers a degree as; Commercial Pilot Fixed Wing, B.S.
KAY£S PRESENTSTION IS BETTER IN THIS VIDEO THAN WHEN SHE IS FLYING.
Any chance you could fly Mystic to Groton, Ct. and grab a bite at Mystic Pizza in Mystic, Ct? :) 👍👍

Sorry guys i find woman better flyers . She is so humble very smart she would be a great fighter jet pilot . Keep following ur dreams !!!
