Never Seen Anything Like It - Military Tent 4 Season Conversion Kit - LiteFighter Cold Weather Kit

  • This is one of the most genius products I have reviewed in years!
Recently I reviewed the LiteFighter 1 tent and talked about how versatile of a shelter system it is and in this episode I am reviewing the Cold Weather 4 Season Conversion Kit that goes with it.
This is an excellent option for converting a 3 season tent into a 4 season one and it works....it simply works!

LiteFighter 1 - Cold Weather Kit - 4 Season Protection for a 3 Season Tent
    Product Purpose :
This is a product that I have been waiting to show off all year and finally it is beginning to get cold enough to use and to begin testing it out. The purpose of this product is to act as an addon for any of the LiteFighter 1 person military tents and with this addon, it converts their 3 season tent to a 4 season tent by adding a layer of rip stop nylon over the top of the existing mesh fabric which holds in hold and block wind from circulation inside of your tent.
While I can’t comment on how effective it is yet I can tell you that if this works as it is meant to, it could be a game changer as far as 3 season tent use within the 4th season.
In the warmer months, you run the tent as-is but when the temps drop, you grab the cold weather kit and you can stay far warmer by holding in some warmer air and by blocking the wind.
At the same time, you still retain all of the ventilation performance of the original tent design.
    Agenda Free Link : litefighter.com/product/litef...
    Price : $120.18
    Weight : 14.5
Materials : 30 Denier water resistant nylon.
    Color : Coyote Tan
    Measurements : 5 x 5 x 5
Included with the LiteFighter 1 Cold Weather Kit
Wind breaker cold weather inner tent cover.
4 snow/sand anchors designed for filling with snow or sand.
    Carry sack.
    Review Pros :
Incredibly smart design - seriously folks, this is an excellent option for converting a 3 season tent into a 4 season one. It works because the LiteFighter 1 is a strong tent to begin with; such a product isn’t going to magically turn an ultralight Big Agnes tent into a 4 season monster or anything like that.
Speaking of which, can this be used with other 1 person tents that share in the same general design as the Litefighter 1? That is an excellent question….I don’t know but I will do some experimenting.
It works; this cold weather kit works and it works really well - it does all that Litefighter claimed - it blocks wind, it holds in some warmth and it blocks blowing snow.
I’ve taken this out in heavy snow and had no issues.
I’ve taken this out into strong winds, had no issues.
I’ve taken this out into cold temps and it does hold in warmth while blocking out cold drafts and while releasing moisture. Condensation wasn’t an issue at all.
In my initial preview concerning this product, I spoke of a concern that I had with the sides being blown and having wind come into the tent, in some situations I am sure that it is possible but with my setups in windy conditions this hasn’t been a problem at all.
    Quality is excellent
Price is very fair - since I took a look filmed my initial impressions, the price of this system has increased by roughly $20 but with inflation and how poor the economy is with the latest administration, this is to be expected.
Installing is easy enough - but, going to the cons….
    Review Cons :
Setup process does take time - it adds roughly 5 minutes to the overall setup of the LiteFighter 1 tent. A positive to that is that once you have it setup, you can break the tent down with the kit on and simple roll it up and the next setup will be much faster.
    Summary :
Without a doubt, this is one of the coolest products that I have seen in years; with the majority of outdoor products, they involve slight alterations to existing products but this is different; in many ways it is a game changer - it’s smart, effective and not overly expensive.
I can easily recommend it for your LiteFighter 1 tent system -

I am issued a lightfighter, just got done with AT at Fort McCoy Wisconsin about a month ago. Spent the whole time in the field. Found out these tents mount directly onto a military cot. I like this combination, I am 44 year old veteran and this saved my back from hurting too bad. I just bought a Scorpion 3 and am looking forward to trying that out with my wife this weekend.

Gotta say Luke, think you’re driving up the cost of this tent. When I first saw, I could definitely find it for $100. Now I only see 200 and up. Granted, I’m sure you can still find them at 1 somewhere. Your positive reviews are definitely having an impact on the market, by increasing demand for GOOD products, which is very good, but not so much for the pocketbook😂. Thanks for the great reviews, keep them coming.

Regarding flapping of the entrance in wind, @7:00 there is a loop on the left side of the two flap door entrance. Use a stake through this loop to hold down the entrance on the left side, you will still be able to unzip the entrance and enter on the right, when the entrance is zipped closed it shouldn't flap, or at least greatly reduce flapping.

As simple as that was to attach, you would think you'd see a lot more of it. Not everyone wants to buy a 4 season tent. Selling a simple conversion is a great alternative.

It's mindblowing! Being in the south, low 20's is extreme cold. I would love to experience the type of conditions that those sorts of tents are designed for. It's insane! People down here think that I am a madman for camping when it's under 40.

Made a very similar Winter layer for my Big Agnes from a lightweight tarp. I used scissors to cut the tarp into parts that I put together with a sewing machine. Reinforcement and extra stitching was done at slots. Seam sealant used on all stitching. I attached the Winter layer to the bathtub with a 24" zipper in the center of each side of the tent. A zipper was placed on each side of the bottom of the door. One side can be tied back while the other is secured to the bathtub. I used nylon zippers meant to be used in jackets. They still work after 4 years.

I used this product for 5 days at high elevation in Colorado with temperatures dropping to just below 40 degrees. The addition of the conversion kit made the tent very noticeably warmer. It was ten degrees warmer than the outside temperature as I measured it with a thermometer. I like it a lot but find the profile a bit low and the width a bit narrow. I would love to have the two person version of this kit.

ebay was flush with Litefighter 1's a week ago when your video on the LF1 came out. They all sold out in 2 days after your video. I bought a second one because it says it's the gen 2 with overhead pockets and mine doesn't have those.
Also, to add velcro to the area you pointed out, you could probably just go with some 3M adhesive backed velcro. Wouldn't trust the cheap stuff to stay stuck, go with 3M.

Ideally, for use in the winter up here, the outer should extend all the way to the ground. Moreover, due to the lack of space, cooking food or use a stove for additional heat, looks kind a tight. Necroposting. Just got the Lightfighter 2, love it. A note on the "gear loops" inside the tent. I think they are also set up for use as an internal guy system. The loops are sewn to the nylon straps that the clips attach to, which attach to the poles. By tying some paracord on the loops inside the tent across the interior, you are securing the poles to one another, just like in a 4 season mountaineering tent. That should really make this tent perform well in high winds.

It's a bandaid ,but if you use, rare earth magnets with fabric adhesive you can create a better door seal. In and out side of t h e original tent, place the magnets on both sides by the zipper... on the outside of the 4 season cover place a 3rd magnetic. After you have everything in place you can use fabric adhesive. You may want to do two sets, one on each side of t h e zipper. I'd space them, 2 to 3 inches away from the zipper. Nice video.

I agree a 2 person or a 1.5 person would be nice since in the 4th season you have more gear with you.

Yes, I confirm that. Its good. I bought one because of you and I am happy. Its solid and some of my friends got one too (mono-place and bi-place). But in my country, no commerce have it, and buying from out side Europe is expensive. You say 100 bucks, I say 250 here...(just the tent).

LiteFighter 1 seems to pair well with an Army-issue cot. With the winter package, a fella can be off the ground, have a dry place to sit, have space underneath the cot to protect gear. Only an active soldier can carry it in...but, once squared away and free from interference, this makes a powerful package.

for the wind issue I feel like a simple diy solution will be one of two things.
1 get some of those tape magnet strips that you can cut. Just get four 1 inch long sections, two each side of tge zipper door, and just glue it on. Simple will keep it "close" while making it easy for you to open it.
    2. Basically the above but with velco strips and a sewing kit. Likely more effective but is more work.

I just use an old Lightwave Crux X2 Storm tent for Winter. It is quite heavy by modern standards at 2.9 Kg but is a full 4 pole Scandium alloy Geodesic 4 season design. Purchased the tent for around £175 about 10 years ago.

I have a Black Diamond tent that is nearly identical, as are several other tents on the market. I toyed with the idea of sewing up similar panels to toss over the mesh for winter. I almost never use a tent so I haven't done it yet.
