I was blessed to meet and talk with Toby Keith in 2008 in Bagram, Afghanistan while serving with the 101st ABN STB. It was truly an honor to meet him. I have always loved his music and the support he gave us was so immense. We truly all lost a brother in arms here. He was there with us providing us morale boosts when we needed it and the battle cry of so many of us after 9/11 "Red, White, and Blue". You gave it your all brother now its time to rest thank you so much.
His passing never entered my mind. I knew he had stomach cancer but prayed he’d be healed. It is still so shocking. When he comes to mind my heart literally aches. Bigger than life, as he seemed to me. I didn’t listen to country until the early 2000s, and Toby’s videos were the best. I’m heartbroken beyond measure.

i was gonna play taps, but i dont think it would be prudent. i thought about it long and hard too. but i think it would be a slap in the face to men and women from generations ago. that right is only for us. i dont think it would honor what toby strived for in supporting us. i think it would of been a step back. so i didnt do it based on that reason. i think he should get soldiers attend his rights, i think he deserved something for his service to us. but careful to what, is the key. cause some rights we carry as soldier/vets is honors. men have done great deeds in the past that warrents there service to veterans and soldiers. then i think about all the soldiers that died to get us here. cant give that to toby even though it wouldnt be frowned on by this generation. i think he was s soldier in heart and spirit.
