    Blessings NOMADIC WONDER (April and Rondel)! You guys are BEAUTIFUL, and your show is Excellent, Exciting, Easy to understand and Informative. As one who's retired a little over a year ago I'm definitely considering my options. Being from Honolulu Hawaii, and seeing the high cost of any return in that direction, I began to consider the alternatives. Your show delightfully presents them. Being a Widower it is an additional Blessing to see you both working together and allowing each other to speak and share not just the important information, BUT THE JOY in having this experience together. How wonderful! Be sure not to cut each other off as you do. My wife and I were very blessed to have ministered to many through the years and one of the things we had to learn was when to let the other speak. I must admit, I was so excited about what God was doing in our lives and sharing that I often cut my wife's comments short, LOL! Lord have mercy. In time I (We) learned to harmonize and speak in turn. How beautiful to walk this world with our Covenant Partner, and better as our ONENESS grew. Any way, keep up the excellent work. I so enjoy you both. Cherish one another and Be Blessed!

    I’m glad that you talked about the cockroaches, cause everyone else seems to talk around it. Do you have any suggestions on finding a Mexican apartment that has no cockroaches, if possible?

    • @TheYarbros
      @TheYarbros  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Any type of densely populated, hot environment is going to breed roaches so 1st don't stay in the tourist areas or any densely populated neighborhood place. Next, get as far off of the ground floor as you can. Be sure to investigate the building and the apartment you are moving into for cleanliness and upkeep. Remember, if your neighbors have roaches you will have them as well. Barricade your home with borax around window seals and the doors. Be sure you treat the outside of your home regularly with insecticide. Don't keep hot garbage in your home. We keep our organic garbage in small bags in the frig until we take it out... Following these rules we have lived free of any roach infestations. In Merida we would see a rando "outside roach" on our first floor but over the course of a year we saw 3 so no real issue #ThankYouJesus -I hope that answered your question.

    Other than weather and cost of living, how would you compare living in Merida to that of Medellin?

    • @TheYarbros
      @TheYarbros  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We would say that Medellin is much more of a "City" in regards to size (population & neighborhoods), things to do, transportation and crime (although we felt very safe there). The public transportation in Medellin was awesome. You did not need to use any transportation apps if you did not want to. That is not a choice here in Merida, public transportation is "bareknuckle". Also, there is a large regional/ cultural (Mayan) presence in Merida it is even more pronounced than in other areas of Mexico...the garments that people wear, the nightly cultural events, the conversations you have with locals....there is a continual celebration of their culture. It is overt and easy to reach for understanding. Lastly, Medellin has a younger expat crowd than Merida. There seems to be a larger retiree community here than in Medellin....our opinions.

    • @TheYarbros
      @TheYarbros  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      American citizens can stay in Mexico on a tourist visa/permit (180 days), or they can apply for a temporary or permanent residency. Most just apply for whichever one works best.

  • @thomasalexander9624

    Just talk to me briefly about gringo pricing is it universal...What do realtors get I live in NYC looking retire in Mexico possibly Merida do they get a month basically are they a big rip-off...and would you suggest finding a NATIVE to negotiate your rental I know can be done...any thoughts appreciated...Thanks Tom.

    • @TheYarbros
      @TheYarbros  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you rent an apartment here you pay 2 months of rent. One month of rent goes towards your legal fees and payment to your realtor. One month of rent is surety that they hold if you do not have a fiador (a local person who vouches for you). Yes, Giringo tax is real so as with any line of business it is best to do your research up front and to move with wisdom. Most people that we know have not been ripped-off but "they" are always talking about someone being ripped-off. Either way wisdom and knowledge are the best tools to wield. I do not think that a native is necessary to work on your behalf most business people here are bi-lingual.

    what other areas did you research prior to moving?

    • @TheYarbros
      @TheYarbros  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For us, we were more interested in the tourist visa/permit and picked a country that allowed more time for tourists to stay. We moved to Mexico from Colombia (after having exhausted our max # of day as a tourist there).

    I said this in the comment section of another of your videos but I LOVE you guys. You make me imagine what life could be like with my husband ( & our kids) living in Mexico. I LOVE YALL! I’m from FL too boo. Here in Bradenton right now and rhet tah GO!
    Question. So I’ve been looking on a particular website at a particular property. It says it was published 62 days ago and it’s still up. Would they have taken it down if it were rented? Also I really want that place (just from looking online) and I want to make payments NOW so I can have it on hold for me when I get there in Sep. is this a bad idea?

    • @TheYarbros
      @TheYarbros  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You guys would love it! It sounds like you are already here mentally 😂 I understand being rhet to go!
      Regarding your question, those sites aren't always maintained. Being 62 days ago I would assume it's no longer available. You could always reach out to the contact of that property and find out for sure. TIP: don't put any money down sight unseen! You really want to walk through these places and neighborhoods before you make any sort of financial commitment. Good luck with your search!

      Good question! I wanted to get a little line-up and fade on the sides and neckline but I was not successful in finding a barber that I would trust. I went into two shops and between the language barrier and the scared look in their eyes..... I just bought some clippers a couple of weeks ago to handled my business personally. I will say they have tons of barber shops, it is a big part of the culture here. They also have a lot of Sally's Beauty Supply shops and healthy black hair care products in all of the major stores, but in regards to a barber I would trust - naw brah!
