I love Mérida! I've been here for almost three months now. It's a great spot to just chill out for a bit when you're ready to slow down from your travels. I will have to check out that museum/restaurant. It's been on my list for awhile!

I've been in Merida for 3 years now, from Minnesota usa. Nice piece, o lot of good info. The people of the Yucatan, 65-70 percent, are NOT Mexican, they are Yucateca. I have been so fortunate to have native Yucatecan friends, visit their families homes, tahmec, homun peublos near Merida. They speak Maya to one another. If you return, go to the cenotes, ancient sites using public transport. Seriously, a real experience to say the least. I have stood at the side of the road, no store, building, nothing for miles. Here comes the bus, flag it down, get in. Try that in the usa ! Take care, keep going on adventures 😊

As a child I grew up in Cuernavaca Mexico. A few years ago we decided to return but wanted to try a different part of Mexico. After doing some research we decided that Merida would be our destination. We immedieately fell in love and after a few return trips we decided to have a home built there. It really is the complete package as far as cities go. Big enough but not too big, plenty of areas to explore, beach is very close and the people are wonderful. Oh and of course the food is phenominal. Great video and its nice to see that you guys enjoyed the city.

Living as an American in Mérida, Mexico, offers a charming and culturally immersive experience. Mérida, the capital of the Yucatan state, is known for its colonial architecture, vibrant arts scene, and a strong expat community. Many Americans are drawn to the city's warm climate, affordable cost of living, and welcoming locals. While some knowledge of Spanish can be helpful, English is commonly spoken among expats and in tourist areas. Mérida's rich Mayan heritage, local cuisine, and relaxed way of life make it a delightful place for Americans to experience the best of Mexico's culture and hospitality. Thanks, Chris and Sara!

icymbi: Progresso is generally accepted as the approximate central point where the most important event in the development of modern terrestrial life occurred - the Chicxulub impact when an asteroid about 6 miles wide struck Earth 66 million years ago. this impact triggered the global mass extinction event (including the dinosaurs dying off) as the Cretaceous Period ended & Paleogene Period began: the Cretaceous - Paleogene boundary. that impact also caused the many cenotes in the area.

2 years in Merida so far and will never set foot in the USA again. Great people, healthy cheap nutritious FRESH food without preservatives, and plenty to see and do all year long, from museums and galleries to cenotes and fishing trips, there is something for everyone. Best part of Mexico is there are VERY FEW LAWYERS, which means people don't sue each other over trivial little accidents. I feel SAFER here than I ever felt in America and have never met anyone who was threatening, violent or patently insane. Yes, the power goes off from time to time and you have to buy drinking water and watch out for mosquitos, but healthcare, entertainment, transportation and general quality of life are head and shoulders better here, as long as you can get used to the heat & humidity.

The reason the locals tell you not to go there is because they don’t want tourist there because then the values goes up and it get to expensive. I think ya already knew that. And please encourage for gringos and Europeans to pay more instead off taking advantage. Thank you

I hear your point. Never did we encourage anyone to move to Mérida though. Just a note! The display in front of the cathedral at night is NOT Inca as you said but it is a Maya "game" you need to do some research on Merida! I live just 20 mins outside of Merida. It is a wonderful place - just do some research!!

Hi Barb, thanks for watching, but we never once called in Incan so I'm not sure where you thought you heard that. We certainly did lots of research ahead of time and learned a lot about Mérida and its history.😊
