Retired AMS-based pilot here. Schiphol is Huuuuge. Runway usage is mostly based on wind direction i.e. landing and taking off into the wind. Another factor is the fact that preference is given to runways that are causing the least amount of noise pollution to the nearby towns. That's the whole reason why runway 01L/18R (the infamous Polderbaan) is used the most whenever possible.
Driving the A9 between exit Haarlem Zuid and Centrum when dusk sets in, often there's a traffic jam there and while crawling ahead, you see planes coming in at 3 minutes distance between them. You may see the next 5, in a row, coming in to land on the Polderbaan.
As to seeing planes, I remember seeing a smallish plane doing aerobatics around the buildings at SPL centre, IIRC once a month: to calibrate the 3D and ground radar around the buildings. I always thought that that pilot had a great job.
That was fun, but if you're really looking for the most unique McDonald's experience in Europe you should probably go to the McBoat in Hamburg, rent a paddle boat somewhere and order your food from the water.
I sometimes ride my motorcycle up there to get some icecream and just chill out! Love that spot! When the sun is out and a busy day on that runway, it's amazing!
being from the area, this mcdonalds was better in design in the past. for example there was a picture in the ceiling of a plane flying over head, also the play area was a little plane and also there was also a screen with all departure times
fun fact: Schiphol is old dutch for ships hell ''scheepshof'' because schiphol is located on what once a lake were a lot of ships stranded due it being a rough watered lake. A giant naval battle took place on were is now Schiphol and some think it got the name from the battle of the haarlemermeer in 1573. The lake became land in 1852 and created 18.500 hectares of new land.
Oh my gosh, birthday parties at McDonald’s was definitely a thing also in France in the 90s, I still have photos from that, you were like the coolest kid if you invited your friends to a McDonald’s birthday party😂🎉
lol two of my favourite things. Burgers and planes. There’s a TH-camr AMS live he’s always down there spotting during the week in the mornings. I’m a nerd 😅😂😂
As is the case here in Las Vegas, prices have gone up I see. I remember getting McDonalds on De Coolsingel in Rotterdam when it first opened and it was something like HFL 5,00.00 (5 Dutch Guilders in those days before the EU). The Tax -BTW- also went up I see and a charge for using plastic. I do miss the McKroket though, wish they had that here. Also, McDonalds used to use fresh meat but then corporate took over. These days it seems that the shareholders are the target, not the customers.
I really don't like McDonald's food very much but I think the most unique McDonald's I have ever seen in Europe must be the one at Nyugati Pályaudvar in Budapest, Hungary ... OMG, what a horrendous burger with the stroop and stroopwafel, I wouldn't in my life take a bite of that. Stroopwafels are meant to enjoy plain ... and stroop is for pancakes or an old cheese sandwich
The problem with McDonald's is that its no longer even cheap. I kinda used to go there, not often, but let's say once a month. Usually on a city trip and you just want a quick bite and chill for half an hour. Because the one thing you have to give them, the restaurants are always at very good locations and they are actually fast with putting the food out. But over the last 5 years especially i'd say, I cant really call it cheap any more. And I swear their burger patties are getting smaller all the time. So, I stopped going there altogether because besides the obviously mediocre food, its not even good value anymore.
Correct, it was cheap and they had some items I somewhat liked, but then it suddenly became more expensive, when this modern form or ordering was introduced. Cheese burger went from 1,50 euro to something like 2,50 or 3 euro. It was somewhere 2009-2012. Haven't visited a McDonald since long before Covid.
Probably someone mentioned it already, but Old Amsterdam cheese is a modern fake “old” cheese… Old Amsterdam is just a marketing name…. Old Rotterdam cheese is by the way real and with a true history…
@@nateandkatrinadotheworld Absolutely.. I'm not in to skiing and have my own planespottingchannel. This McSki is the only one in the world that is why i think it unique :)
OMG I would never leave that McDonalds. One of the other TH-cam creators I watch regularly is a Schiphol plane watcher (from the Western runway). Dude, just replace the bun on that chicken sandwich with two stroopwafels.
Yes, Fries are terrible at McDonalds. Americans seem to have a different taste in fries than Dutch people. But if you don't order menus you probably can avoid the fries
Lord Sandwich never, but NEVER, had a bun in his mind when he slapped two pieces of bread together and invented the sandwich. Please respect him as well as history and refrain from calling a hamburger a sandwich. Hamburger is sufficient information ! PS do you miss the chemicals on Merican hamburgers but banned in the EU ? ( not at all passive aggressive !)
I am not sure anyone would miss those chemicals… I believe it mostly lets those food products last much longer. We definitely had to adjust to how quick bread would go stale or grow mold here. Fresh is better, for sure.,
Sorry, Old Amsterdam cheese is not Gouda cheese, is not made in Amsterdam, but in Huizen ('t Gooi). It is real cheese, protected by law. The brand is called Old Amsterdam. Doesn't mean the cheese is old. I don't know why Americans are always so fond with Gouda cheese. Try for example Leerdammer or Beemster. Beemster is sponsering a lot of events for people with disability's. And sponsering of course Chris Vos, a paralympic snowboard champion.

We have already said that we will go back in the warm months to just watch the planes! ✈️
Stroopwafel chicken sandwiche, that is INSANE 😮
Don’t knock it ‘til you try it! 😂
Nah, i am good

Simpler times! All the cool kids were doing it! 😂 Such good memories.

Plane spotting is so much fun! ✈️ Even if the burgers might be questionable here. 😂
Next time pick a day with strong winds or even storm. Fun for everybody! Local news even has a livestream watching planes land in tough conditions.
We did that the first time around but we’re getting pummeled with rain. This was the best we could do! Thanks for watching.
Talking your own bottle sirup😂 You're like a Dutch 🇳🇱 👍😂
😂 Don’t tell anybody!
Hi Nate&Katrina Old Amsterdam is cheese, not real old cheese. It's regulated by law. Maarten
😂
Of course next to the bicycle path...😂
Everything in the NL is next to a bicycle path. 😂
You should come to Playa Honda, Lanzarote. Sit in a beachside bar and watch the planes come and go in the warm sunshine!

All true… some things get better… many things get “squeezed”.
Check out the McDonalds in Porto Portugal, very classy
Or the one next to the Budapest main train station, in a beautiful building.
Have you ever tasted appelstroop or appelperenstroop?
On Dutch pancakes or on bread with old cheese, or use it in a stew like "zuurvlees".
Very cute video, put a big smile on my face
Thanks for always following along!
OMG when you where a kid they where 39 cent... who then you still look great for a 75 year old 😁
Shhhh…. 😂
Don't be rude.
And 10:45 that's how the "wafel" got into your "waffel"
Yes! 🙌
Nice video!
Thanks for watching!
Next time take it with the cherry onions sauce its good😊 with
Maybe?!?!

I don't think i've ever seen a broken icecream machine in any dutch MC Donalds, granted, I don't come there very often.
It’s an ongoing thing in the US. Also the chain “Wendy’s”… mysteriously always has a broken frosty machine any time later in the day… 🧐

Smart location
We thought the same thing.

We have leaned that… that was what Nate referred to in the video. We really like it… but also love Old Rotterdam and Edam and many others! 🧀
I think McSki in Sweden probably are more unique.. with a "ski-thru" :)
It’s all subjective, right? If you don’t ski, the airplane might be more up your alley. Thanks for watching!

I,d be surprised when they have your diy burger on the menu soon, if so, sue the pants off em ! 😄
Technically, we copied them. 😂 It was on their menu as a limited time offer. We just got there too late.
Ski Pole Airport McDonald's!
I knew this was coming… 🫠😂

ever damn video you do in amsterdam is getting thumbs down.. there is more than friggin amsterdam
If you watched their channel you would see most of their videos are OUTSIDE of Amsterdam. Be nice and scroll on.
MIST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seems like we can’t get away from it lately!
😉😉😊
You must have a stomach made out of steek...
