You mentioned something about the ring shape of the city center. Those 'points' that stick out are because of defensive reasons, where it was possible to reorient cannons from one point into the direction of another point to provide cover. The most amazing place in NL where this is more visible than anywhere else is Vesting Bourtange This bastion never ever fell to enemy soldiers, partly also because of the natural defensive line of a huge deadly swamp. It's tiny, so make sure to combine it with something else if you'd visit it, or go in summer when they go re-inactment events.

Your pronunciation of Zwolle is actually admirable. I’ve heard it butchered in 10 million different ways by foreigners. But yours it’s pretty damn accurate. Just the sound of your accent gives away that you’re not Dutch. But pronunciation wise, nearly perfect and inline with the regional pronunciation differences within NL itself. That must have taken so much practice! It’s funny… you’re in a former church from the 1500’s and say that’s really old. Honestly, not really. NL has churches that have been here since 1100-1200 and earlier. The oldest church in NL is from 560!! “We’re gonna climb that, aren’t we?” You’re a tourist in Zwolle. It’s mandatory to climb the Peperbus. Yeah, Herman brood zag er geen brood meer in. I love how you actually research the places you go to. @ well, you got the short o down to a T! I hear many foreigners struggle with that. It usually ends up sounding like a long o or an oe (like how English speakers pronounce stroopwafel). So yes, definitely take the compliment! You should visit Enschede and Elburg (small city so probably not a visit for a full day).
@ can’t wait to see it! “Fun fact”, did you know Enschede was the location of the worst fireworks disaster in Western Europe? 23 killed, over 500 injured and an entire neighborhood leveled. It was the largest explosion in the country since WW2.

Then again, it Zwolle is the calvinist example how they see a church: White without decoration because it distracts from the message. Let's say as churches go, I'm more partial to the paintings, the storytelling of the catholics. More to look at. 😂
Zwolle is lovely but it isn't exceptional. So many Dutch cities are just as nice. I particularly like all of the old Hanseatic cities along the Ijssel, of which Zwolle is just one: Deventer, Zutphen, Kampen etc. It's nice that you're posting videos like this, letting people know that there's more to the Netherlands than Amsterdam and Utrecht.
It very sad to see Churches being changed in markets....People used to come here for God because of this reason.... Why are we here ? What is the purpose of this life on earth? Is there life after this earthly existence? Is there a heaven and a hell? Are you good? Good enough to go to heaven? Almost all of us would declare to be good. But what is good? What is the highest moral standard to which we can compare or measure ourselves? Please take a look at this test. How many lies have you told in your life? Have you ever stolen anything - even if it was very small and of little value? Have you ever hated anyone? Have you ever desired things that wasn’t yours? Have you ever used God’s or Jesus name to express disgust? We all have done this at some point, so this test shows us that we are sinners. To admit this is not easy for us. But God is Light and Love and there is not even a trace of evil in Him. God is the Holy Spirit, He is a 100% righteous Judge, and He must not only judge murderers and thief’s, but also blasphemers, idol worshipers, fornicators and sexual immoral humans. In the beginning the earth was like heaven during Adam and Eve, the first 2 humans, but they disobeyed God and began sinning. We all are descendants from them and carry the sin curse too. God says that the wages of sin is dead and that is why we all die. This is how serious sin is to a Holy God. But God is love and He doesn’t want anyone of us to go to Hell. He wants to Safe us so that we all live happily forever with Him in His Kingdom, in heaven. But He must also judge and punish our evil. So how to solve this dilemma? God in His wisdom solved this problem by coming as the humble human Jesus. Jesus lived a perfect sinless life on earth, and He took the punishment that we deserved upon Himself by stepping in for us in Gods Courtroom and so bailed us out from Hell punishment by shedding His innocent blood and life on the Cross as a sacrifice atonement which washes away ALL our sins and punishment. He paid the highest possible price by offering His life and His precious blood to safe us. He died, but He rose from the grave on the third day, alive, because God is Spirit and He cannot die. God will give the gift of eternal life to you too if you believe in Jesus - you will go from being condemned to hell to everlasting life in heaven. This is Gods amazing grace - and it is free ! All you have to do now (!) is to repent of your sins and trust in Jesus for your Salvation. Do NOT trust in your good works as they are like filthy rags in the eyes of the Holy God - and you insult God as you actually saying that Jesus didn’t had to die for you. God bless each and everyone who reads this in the Mighty Name of Lord Jesus - the KING of kings, and the LORD of Lords. He will come back.
The main claim to historic fame for Zwolle was being a member of the famous Hanseatic League. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanseatic_League#Lists_of_former_Hansa_cities ...enabled by its location on the IJssel river, in contrast to other cities not ON the IJssel, but OVER the IJssel ("Overijssel"). On the IJssel meant trade and wealth, hence the lovely town.

Good job pronouncing kerk ;o). Another one. Zwolle doesn't start with a zee, but with a zet :o).
Our pronunciation is usually 50/50. 😂
If you had haggled on that shirt and bought it for €24,95 you'd have a nickle back .
I'l show myself out....
Good one! ;)
Looks like an egg to me!
I can't take your comment serious if you compare Zwolle to Deventer..
@@k0Lm-NL You're so right; Deventer is much nicer!
Ah you are not Dutch, i see :-)
@@k0Lm-NL Ik ben oorspronkelijk Engels, maar nu ook Nederlands dankzij de goede Koning Willem Alexander.
I feel the same as you about those stupid graffiti tags. They are expressions of people with a sick mind 😩
😢
My hometown Zwolle 🥰
Calvinisme
The main claim to historic fame for Zwolle was being a member of the famous Hanseatic League. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanseatic_League#Lists_of_former_Hansa_cities ...enabled by its location on the IJssel river, in contrast to other cities not ON the IJssel, but OVER the IJssel ("Overijssel"). On the IJssel meant trade and wealth, hence the lovely town.
Thanks for the info!
