I have fired thousands of these rounds in my bolt action rifle and never had
any problem with them not exiting the barrel. They still hit the target with good
power. I really love this round!

@@yootoobvyooerMake sure you’re grabbing the “Super” calibri, as ive found some of the old calibri on the shelves that are 400fps not the 590 of the Super. I love this stuff for basement fun with my sons with our savage mk2 target rifles.

I've used Colibri .22 quite a bit and find it generates greater velocities from a handgun than a rifle. I suppose the projectile only needs a few inches of barrel length to achieve peak velocity, with additional barrel length beyond that to literally become "a drag".
Just remember, these use only a primer compound as a propellant and as we all know, that contains lead styphinate... certainly something you don't want accumulating indoors, especially in living quarters. If you use these indoors, ventilation is important.

No. Colibri is primer only. Super Colibri has some powder, is about 100 fps faster, and can usually be used with rifles with 18" (and sometimes longer) barrels. Otherwise they're the same. I fire this stuff all the time. Either one fires fine in my 10/22 and Henry lever action. In some longer barrel rifles like my 1937 Ranger 103, Super fires fine but regular Colibri doesn't. This stuff is great in a tubular magazine lever or bolt action.

  • @TinMan0555

I’ve been using these for 15+ years. I bought a Marlin 882 bolt gun, stuck an old scope that was laying around and zeroed it in my 40 ft long hallway using a phone book as a backstop. It was setup, specifically to use this ammo, to shoot squirrels out of my bird feeders. Distance from dinner table to feeders was right at 75 feet. I say dinner table because I sat a shooting rest on the table, slid the patio door open about a foot and wait for the tree rats to arrive. Along with those were field mice/rats that came in to take fallen birdseed off the ground. This gun is quieter than my Benjamin pump-up air rifle and will do head shots all day long. I estimate that it has taken over 500 critters so far. The only down side is, the ammo has gotten way more expensive and is harder to find. When I began, I could buy a brick (500) for $15. Should have been buying it by the case. 😎

It is a GREAT cartridge, I've been using it for a while. It's actually kinda loud out of a pistol, but I've more so used it in a couple of my OLDER 22LRS like my 1904 Winchester and model 67. I guess the rifling isn't as tight as in a newer 22lr. BOY is it QUIET from those 2 rifles that I mentioned. My old cap gun and ANY of my pellet rifles are LOUDER!!! LOl.. I discovered this stuff maybe ten years ago? Anyway it seemed to good to be true. I am mostly a handgunner but not really a 22 guy. I do have a 1936 Smith and Wesson outdoorsman which is really just a K 22 The gun is perfect mechanically and.... accurate? really? I bought a bullet trap for reasonable and started shooting these things indoors at around 24' I used one inch circles for targets. I would change targets or use a dot next to it when there was nothing left of the dot. Pretty much this ammo and my K22 will shoot 3/4" or less at this distance. Two things tho.... it is not a toy. it is also sorta kinda dirty and there will be a soot channel on your carpet if you shoot in the living room... lay down some plastic... also... my daughter had to try it and missed the trap entirely. The bullet went through both layers of sheetrock on the wall behind the target and hit the microwave shattering the glass. soooo..

Definitely NOT a toy! Neither are air guns that fire metal projectiles! Even a "Daisy Red Ryder". When I got my first Daisy as a kid, I was taught (drilled into me, LOL) the same rules for it as if it was a Marlin Model 336! 53 years later still fun. I've been lately getting back into rimfires. I don't care what other guns/calibers one was EVERY shooter should have AT LEAST one .22! Oh, and the "big boy" airguns are a BLAST as well!

@@jamesslick4790 yes.. I agree. and my first BB gun my mom was against so my dad spent a lot of time with me showing me safety and such. When I take new shooters out (private property) I will set gallon jugs of water on the ground and have em shoot from say 15' I don't tell em how to stand or hold the gun (unless they are doing it unsafely) or how to align the sights. It takes a long time for most people to get good with a handgun because there are so many ways to be horrible but for then.. I just tell em to put the front sight on the jug. Two good things happen... One.... putting a hole in a piece of paper does nothing to convey just how destructive a bullet is (except in the movies where 9mm bullets put a 3" hole in a paper target) When that jug all but disentigrates in an explosion of water? well they get the point I think... and... once they hit a few jugs they want to hit a lot more of em and want tips. how to align the sights etc.

They nosedive in some magazines but downloading (a lot) usually allows manual cycling. Super dirty in the chamber as well as on the ground between the muzzle and target. The filth can cause (manual) extraction problems and light strikes in autoloaders and DA revolvers. The problem persists not just for this ammo but whatever you load afterwards until you do a more thorough cleaning than should ever be needed for a modern firearm. I think they’re worth it, but you should know what you’re getting into.

I have a few boxes, but I haven’t had the opportunity to use them much.
Hot glue bullets have worked for me.
Similar to the wax bullets that some have used and loaded like the plastic trainer bullets that Speer sells.
Use a hot glue gun to cast the bullets in a standard bullet mold.
    Only primers in the case.
Magnum and rifle primers seem to have a little more power.
    No powder is used.
    Just push the bullet in.
Smaller calibers with handguns seem to have more velocity.
My 450 bushmaster was pretty weak.
Black powder caps usually won’t let them clear the barrels.
But a 209 primer in my muzzle loader works great.
These will damage drywall, so don’t shoot people.
Crayola makes a pencil top eraser that fits the.50 cal muzzle loader.
But these are only good for one shot. Recycling them leaves 1!2 of it in the barrel.
    I tried.40sw out of my g35 outside.
Couldn’t feel a breeze, but could see leaves moving slightly.
The impact was about 4 feet from point of aim.
This has worked well for me using cans as targets with a bag of cans as a back stop.
I would like to work up range loads for these.
There may be quite the mess in the barrel.
Colibri is hit or miss locally, but someone besides me also buys them.

Like you said these are not for rifles. My experience with these and rifles: Bought several boxes for squirrels instead of my .22 PCP. First rifle barrel is 24 inches and these are absolutely all over the place. Second rifle barrel is 21 inches and same story, all over the place. Fired some CCI quiet loads out of both rifles and they worked perfectly and consistently. I had several of these rounds give muffled report and they left powder flakes in the actions upon ejection. My understanding was the Colibri rounds only used the primer for propellent and the Super Colibri had a few flakes of powder as I experienced. I also heard these do not function very well at all with barrels past 16 inches which goes with my experience also, but I do not have a .22 pistol or shorter barrel rifle to compare. They are sitting on the shelf waiting for when my other half lets me get a .22 pistol now. I may try them in my AR .22 conversion with a 16 inch barrel sometime.

"Yes, there is a .22 caliber BB cap, also known as the 22 BB Cap or Bulleted Breech Cap. Louis-Nicolas Flobert invented the .22 BB Cap in 1845, making it the first metallic rimfire cartridge. It's a low velocity, quiet cartridge that's designed for indoor target shooting. The .22 BB Cap is interchangeable with the .22 CB Cap, which is also known as the 6mm Flobert and is a more powerful version of the .22 BB Cap. The CB Cap is the same length as the BB Cap but uses a conical bullet. "

I've seen the tiny one's that are just barely large enough to mount the bullet... but I didn't know they made them with full length 22lr cases. The smaller one's weren't as useful, because they won't work in most semi auto's and it's hard to load them into a 22lr semi-auto. You'd probably be more likely to smash them and have an out of battery detonation if you tried to load them from the magazine with racking the slide on a .22lr semi-auto.

    • @fmgpubs
      @fmgpubs  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@fmgpubs I know. I just found out now that the small one's are actually a lot more powerful than the Super Colibri. The .22CB and the .22BB rounds range from about 21 to 29 ft-lbs. That's a lot more powerful than I ever would have expected. As far as I know, they're only charged with a single primer load and have no powder in them. I really wish I could reload my old .22lr brass into these... or at least I wish I could uncrimped brass and bullets for these, so I can load them myself. I really think I could make some fun little guns for indoor target practice.

The mouse took off. Nasty no bladder having creatures. Have a cat now. A stray turned up. Something like that sparrow & a little bigger for a tricked out short & folding 10-22 ,tactical solution with the shroud that counts as barrel length and protects the suppressor is what I am thinking about doing. The .22 short with 29gr bullet (std velocity version) produces about 615 fps (24 fpe) from a 4-inch handgun. Still a good bit above the diminutive pinking power of a std velocity Colibri. Wondering if the Super Colibri uses a pinch of propellant besides the primer....

advertised air rifle velocities are quite over rated. Most real-world .177 pellets are roughly 8 gr and achieve around 850-950 fps velocities. Most real-world .22 pellets are 14-16 gr and achieve velocities of 750-850 fps. Yes there are examples that are higher (pre-charged pneumatic s and some multi stroke pneumatics) but are not (or haven't been) the norm especially with any degree of accuracy. I do agree with what you have said of the super colibri though.
