Hasbro do a lot of dumb things with their G1 figures. That is why I go with some great 3rd party makers in Magic Square and Newage. Both give the fans what they really want. If ya want different versions(Toy, Comic Book, Original Cartoon Animation, etc.), they give it to ya with the details(great accessories). Hasbro, they constantly cut corners and screw with us die hard fans!
Behind each decision there's a lot of factors to deal with : budget, ingeneering limitation, toy safety laws, marketing, copyright... One mold matrix alone is worth at least 30000 $ and it must be profitable (ence repaints). Considering we get new head, crotch and light bar i think the budget was used where it neaded to be.
The hands are molded on the same sprew as something like the shins, hence why they're white and have to be painted red. The only red plastic on the figure is a completely different type of plastic that won't work for the hands.
I really can't wait to get this figure, paint the helmet red and the crest white, so I can finally have a near-perfect Marvel comics Ratchet to be Megatron's main nemesis. Marvel Ratchet is like Top 3 Ratchets, easy.
I think ill buy this. I still like his WFC version the best. WFC has a nice modern G1 cybertronian look to it. Where 86 is the best G1 looking toy I seen.
Live-action Ratchet was honestly a standout of good engineering in a line absolutely rife with overly complex, loosey-goosey, hard to even tab together design.
There's one or two times in the 3-part opener after Ironhide gets shot by Skywarp, past that Ratchet almost never showed up in the show. The Marvel comic is where the character really shined (and had the superior color scheme)
Strange how they couldn't give us translucent red plastic for the lights. This red paint looks like nail polish that my sister used to paint my Hot Wheels cars with. Not a great finish for such a great sculpt. Great video by the way thanks for pointing out the push down pull up maneuver at the end
Noticed your Earthrise Ratchet looks like he's got Nonnef wheels and feet. Mine does too... but I'm still looking forward to replacing him with the new one.
I hope they rerelease him and Ironhide without the transparent plastic at some point. My Ironhide started showing cracks after only a few transformations
@Rumbletheimp2 Yeah, Hasbro is going to be in big trouble if they don't hurry and start minimizing the amount of clear plastic they want use to make their Transformers figures!
They really should start doing like LEGO and overmould the transparent parts into opaque plastic. Means you don't have to worry about the plastic cracking, and there won't be big painted sections that don't match the moulded plastic colour.

I bought the black one and turned it into the A-Team van with some red electrical tape. Looks a little like MR T with the Ironhide head.

Man the ambulance mode looks so plain after having had my Ironhide with Toyhax stickers added to it. Hopefully they'll release a set for Ratchet soon.

Yeah, transparent plastic isn't necessarily the wrong thing to use while making Transformers toys, but Hasbro likes using it too much!
