I had Decepticharge when I was young sadly he got his neck snapped the head just sheared off with no warning so I’m trying to get a new one just so I have someone to scale with MP Grimlock
just wanted to let you know that at 11:13 you called it an Acura NSX, but its actually the RSX. The NSX was the mid engine V6 suparcar slayer, while the RSX was just a fancy fwd Civic Si.
It's legit impressive how you look at them at first and it doesn't look like they are transformers toys at all just normal car models. That's gotta be one of the best lines Hasbro have ever done.
@Sunset's Channel It's the overall obsession for accuracy in robot modes that ruins it. When back images from the truck mode of the the new studio series Optimus came out everyone just gave it a pass. People don't care about alt modes as much as you think. If no one wants it then Hasbro simply doesn't do. It's a corporate thing, If ain't broken why bother fixing it.
@@robowarrior369 the consensus is usually buy a model car, they’re supposed to be transformers after all (I don’t exactly share this but that’s what it seems)
Wheeljack and his son being the same mold is adorable Great Wheeljack design to, weird how it never became the basis for a CHUG style Barricade given that it’s already a mustang
11:14 Just a smol observation I made on Alternator Mold Number 7: I think you meant to say RSX instead of NSX. I’m both a huge Transformers fan and collector, and car enthusiast. I personally believe that the Alternators line could and should be revisited and updated with today’s modern engineering, as I firmly believe the idea was one of the coolest things ever.
Best part about the Jazz/Shockwave mold: some years later, there was a Botcon Customizer Class that had Reveal the Shield Jazz as a base figure...you could do G2 Jazz, Shattered Glass Jazz, or...use specially made custom parts and do a CHUG version of Alternators Shockwave. I'm annoyed Hasbro didn't think about that as a regular retail figure. (Similarly, they should've thought about the RtS Tracks/Generations Wheeljack mold for a nod as Alternators Grimlock)
My uncle had displayed the Grey subi and the rally wrap one. I loved looking at them because they just had a unique feel compared to normal transformers toys
The other upside to this line (while the robot modes were a bit jank) is the price. Loved picking these up for 19.99 USD on trips to Target. Seemed like a steal at the time, even more so now.
Optimus being a Ram truck with the power of a Dodge Hellcat works pretty well. It could be like when he’s charging into battle he is going at full speed.
These things were so amazing in a time before masterpiece. The size, the best alt modes we have ever been given and the official license for $20 MSRP for most of them? Untouchable. Even accounting for inflations we couldnt see these for less than $150 today at all. great video!
I first saw Smokescreen at a local Target and thought it was very cool. I went home to find out more info and was surprised to find there was a painted die-cast version - insta-buy!! I was hooked on Binaltech after that.
My first transformers toy was alternators Smokescreen. I would always put him on the side of my tv when I was playing gran turismo 3. I remembered that gran turismo 3 had a rally car that looks exactly like Smokescreen and I would mostly keep him in vehicle mode. I would also put lego figures inside the cockpit. This was during the time when Cybertron was on tv and the next transformer I wanted was Hotshot because he looks cool. When I got him for Christmas, I was really disappointed because he didn't had an opening hood. He had a cockpit but it's so small, I couldn't fit anything in it. Transformers Alternators really set the bar high for me. It wasn't until the ROTF leader Optimus where I started to be impressed by transformer toys again.
I'd really love for these figures to get a modern revamp, having an alternators-style line with realistic cars and modern engineering would be absolutely amazing.
After watching your video I'm so glad that I chose the Shockwave mold as the base for a "live action" Transformer design for my OC, I knew that mold had something special
Also, holy crap, I just remembered my local nerd store HAS the Mazda RX8 (Jazz), and it also happens to be at the top of your list! I'm definitely going to pick it up next time I'm there.
Honestly as someone who necer cared for altmode accuracy thid video gave me a new perspective for the attention to detail that can go into some of these guys
Just went to my first transformers con this weekend. Ended up get getting a Smokescreen for $25, and then later on I got to met the guy that designed that figure. To whom was more then happy to sign it for me. Also got Shockwave too. So happy to see my first two Alternators, are high pick on your list.
Man i was in love with that Smokescreen figure. I was really impressed at first. I made a Grimlock into a Death Race “Monster” mustang transformer with guns and all.
I know it won't happen but it would've been awesome if Hasbro brought this subline back someday and yet also made a Movie Edition series for the subline, like Alternator models but like in movie colors which in my unpopular opinion would be awesome :D
I know takara made a "Movie Edition" Binaltech Jazz in 2007 with a dark silver paintjob, and it's pretty sick looking, it's a shame the line died out and never got to continue that.
I would love these designs for the movies much more than the designs that they made for the movies. But that’s Hollywood for you, they don’t care about the franchise or the opinions of the fans.😢 It’s a crying shame.
I definitely understand why this is one of if not your favorite TF line. I mean for as long as I've watched you, you've always given me the feeling that the alt-modes were your favorite part of a transformers toy.
Loved this line so much. I collected the Binaltech versions. A little more expensive but well worth it for the die cast and overall attention to detail.
Great Video, I also am in possession of all the Alternators and enjoy the line very much. But for me the Line runs second favorite behind the G1 line. I was a 10 yr old kid when G1 hit the scene and will always be my favorite Transformers line and also my Favorite Toy line. Great Job.
I remember being on the internet at some point and I found the best alternator custom ever, someone took a shockwave figure and turned it to 11, he used black magic turned it into a Plymouth HEMI Cuda in plum crazy, that is just inspired
I have most of these figures and I agree that they're awesome! My only regret is that they didn't give us more stuntacons aside from Wildrider, I would have appreciated them more than the likes of Ravage and Rumble as cars.
I have silverstreak and I just learnt it's an alternators figure. I had my suspicions when I discovered alternators were a thing but this video confirmed it for me lmao
I remember having Mirage when I was little. I got it around a Christmas party, and it was so hard to transform him. I don’t remember what I did with him, since I haven’t found him yet.
Great video man, I'm one for the return of this line, tough the price will be obscene. I got two Imprezas, the two Mazdas, two of the Jeeps, Optimus, Windcharger, Overdrive. Skids, and Prowl. Love them all!
Great video! I have most of the Alternators and was lucky enough to be stationed in Japan when they released the Binaltechs. I picked up a few of Japanese versions also. I thought of selling them but have a hard time separating from them especially since I’m car crazy as well as Transformers crazy. 😂😅
I got Smokescreen as a hand-me-down from my cousins when I was young and I absolutely loved it. The only disappointing thing is that he was missing a door 😢 and the weapon I didn’t even know existed till now. I’ll complete him one day.
These are legit the coolest transformers ive, EVER seen. I hate so many transformers lines from them being too cartoonish or too simple. I dont understand how i never knew about these
It's a car. Love this. Glad Alternators is getting a second look and you'redefinitelythe guy to do it. One of the most interesting G1 modernization lines and its absence does leave something of a hole in Transformer's soul.
I was partial to the Decepticons in this line, with shockwave being the GOAT. Smokescreen as the debut figure of the line means he is the mascot for Alternators for me, it’s a real fun toy and looks great. I wish Barricade had been offered in that mold, though I suppose I could make my own.
I had the Skids toy, he got me back into transformers as an adult. I figured his transformation being two unrelated halves held together by a single bar would've knocked him some points, but I'm glad he ranks where he does, that's a dang fun toy. Alternators really seemed like the transformers line made for you, so congrats on getting the whole set! I think that Shockwave's my holy grail now, so damn clean.
I don't really hold these figures to the same standard as modern figures in that regard., like Armada toys are what the Alternators was releasing alongside. by comparison, these were Masterpiece figures of the day
There's so many of these that look great. I'm not a car enthusiast but I've always been a fan of Smokescreen's Subaru car because of the game Gran Turismo 2. I only ever got Sunstreaker when these were new but I'd love to get some more.
I Still have Mazda RX8 Jazz (First Alternator) and Ford Mustang GT Grimlock. I had Dodge Viper SRT-10 Dead End/Sunstreaker (Don't remember which one) and the Jaguar XK Ravage. It's still holding as one of my favorite TF lines of all-time!
I have 20 of the 28 myself, and were the only series I tried to actively collect since the original G1 characters from the 1980s. When they started coming out in stores (Toys R Us back then) it was the Hound one that really made me love this series. Each new one had so much detail I was compelled to get the next... and at least around here retailing for just US$19.99 each back then, this amazing quality was affordable too. The unfortunate thing was that the 20 variations I did get were the only ones I found for sale here. For instance, the Ford GT variants I still have never seen "in person". Overall though, very cool designs for all, even with the transformation issues of some. If they do decide to resurrect this line, I hope it is the same scale as these to keep the size compatibility.
i have alternator shockwave and i must say i love it so much tho it have its annoying thingy too- due to waves big head with antenas, it is tricky to put his head through gap on hood designed. not once he popped his hood off while transforming. good thing is that hood is designed on those tiny pimples that pegs into those small cratters, so it does not damage anything when it pops off.
"EVERY part of the robot to make up EVERY part of the car." Seriously, THIS is what the Masterpiece line should've been. Fully articulated robot modes that find that perfect balance between screen-accurate and real-world robotic (man, do I miss the mindset that put the pistons and shocks on MP-01), AND vehicle modes that are so accurate to their real-life counterparts that you'd think you're just looking at a scale model with no hint of there being a robot AT ALL. "The fact that these were MODERN cars but the OLD characters we love... you don't see that nowadays." We SHOULD be seeing that in the MOVIE toys. But no, take random names and slap them onto random car modes with random robot modes, that works too...
The problem with Hollywood is they don’t care about the franchise and they gave the job to a hater of the franchise to direct the films.😢 I own all of these and most of the Binaltech figures and the Binaltech figures are even better! Die cast construction. It’s a lost art. 😉
I loved this line - more specifically the Binaltech versions. Die cast felt premium, 1/24th scale vehicles with front wheels that could turn and hoods & doors that opened. The robot modes we almost all sort of meh, with issues abound. But it was the sacrifice for the amazing alt modes with the engineering of the day. I sort of consider them the predecessor to the MP line.
Smokescreen was the first Transformer I bought as an adult. I bought it just because he looked so damn cool. I loved the rest of the line too, especially Wheeljack, Mirage and Hound. But I still have nightmares about the transformation. 😢
I used to own that Jaguar Ravage and man the car is wonderful till it transforms which made it nuts for me. Getting GT40 Mirage years later definitely my favorite of the entire line.
First off. That opening. Not only did you take a card out of Gaming Historian's hat. But you took the idea to its logical extreme. And I LOVE IT! Now for the entries 13. Since Ravage has another version that actually looks like the character. For that mold I would've used say Runabout instead. No comments on the other two. 12. Interesting idea. Nothing else I can say. 11. YES! I also LOVE the idea of Ravage being a Jaguar. It also reminds me that Atari now owns Bubsy. Which I think is funny because the bobcat had a game (Bubsy In Fractured Furry Tales) on the Atari Jaguar. 10. Agreed on feeling like It would've been a good fit for Tracks. 9. If this idea was done again today I would like to see the blue version as RID Strongarm. 8. No comment. 7. Nothing to say. 6. Wonder if this could be used for Animated Swindle. 5. Imagine if they did another version of Mudflap back then (I say that because this is pre bayverse) 4. Nice 3. Cool. Though the shield thing? I think I can hear a certain Aussie Transformers fan groaning in the distance. 2. Cool. 1. Awesome.
It really is impressive how despite being the first mold in the series the Impreza actually ended up being one of the best. Overall though, I really did like the Alternate line back in the day and collected most of them, Ricochet being one of the more notable holes where I really wanted him, but just never could find one that wasn't outrageously marked up. Especially at the time Alternators was everything I would have wanted a live action take on these characters to look like... sadly it was never to be... shudders in Bayformer's walking scrapyards that are barely even recognizable as ever being a car.
THEY HAVE INTERIORS?!?! I've seen so many pictures of the alternators figures on TF-wiki, but never really looked into it because their alt-modes looked wonki. If I had known they were this high-quality I would have looked into them way way sooner.
I like to do modern takes on old and obscure characters when painting my Forza cars Recently did Sideswipe as the lambo Sian, and Sunstreaker as the Hurrican STO
man, I want an Alternators 2.0, only ever had Rumble though. I'd love to see some new take on it either official or unofficial and Optimus as an actual semi too. Rumble really was shafted with his arms being permanently pile drivers though, but I loved the toy anyway. I know some companies are doing Bayformers that have interiors in vehicle, but imagine an Alternators type line with the seemingly unlimited budget and design wizards some third party companies have though
I am seriously jealous of your Alternators collection. I've been slowly building up my collection, but they are hard to find. You have my favorite! The Blue Subaru WRX STI race version! I need to find that!
I have the binaltech overdrive and it was great until the paint started to chip on the die cast parts, so I removed the old paint and paint it again but with a red that pops more, anyways great content!
Awesome Video. I love when Alternators get some love. This line is what got me back into Transformers and eventually led to MP collecting and 3rd party. I must say I was shocked you got Camshaft / Prowl's alt mode wrong with NSX. I WISH they were an NSX, but they are an RSX. Actually in Japan I think they called it an Integra, so I an see some confusion. I have a big collection of Alternators / Binaltech figures. I still have a few missing from the Binaltech series (wonderfest Nemesis Prime is my Grail) I have all of the Alternators NISB with variants. I found that in Europe they had the Bubble Packaging, but because of a lawsuit they had to put the picture of the Toy on it rather than the killer Artwork that I loved seeing on the boxes. There was a progression of Box design change from Blue to Red to Bubble Clamshell. Fun Fact, Mirage / Hotrod is the only vehicle to be a Rear Engine Design. The BT line was metal and ALT was plastic, which actually for once was the better choice as BT figures have trouble holding poses due to the weight of the metal parts. I never understood why we didn't get a Megatron in this line. One of my ongoing projects I started when I collected this line was to make the Stunticon team as to me that really fit the spirit of this line. I could go on about this line for a long time. Love the spotlight these get. I am looking forward to the Spotlight videos for your Top 3 figures. I will say you can find a lot of great Mods to these figures that will improve articulation as well as asthetics to them so they can be more enjoyed! I think that you have to include Alternity series in this line as well even thought the scale was changed. I did collect them after this line for a little bit, but the smaller scale, higher cost and way more intricate transformation I stopped, but I think these are what paved the way for our modern day Masterpiece figures. I would love to see a sub series going over each one of the molds.
The Mirage figures also suffers from GPS due to his plastic being made out of swirly metallic blue/black plastic but I'm surprised to see yours is still intact

Overall though, very cool designs for all, even with the transformation issues of some. If they do decide to resurrect this line, I hope it is the same scale as these to keep the size compatibility.
i have alternator shockwave and i must say i love it so much
tho it have its annoying thingy too- due to waves big head with antenas, it is tricky to put his head through gap on hood designed. not once he popped his hood off while transforming. good thing is that hood is designed on those tiny pimples that pegs into those small cratters, so it does not damage anything when it pops off.
"EVERY part of the robot to make up EVERY part of the car."
Seriously, THIS is what the Masterpiece line should've been.
"The fact that these were MODERN cars but the OLD characters we love... you don't see that nowadays."
We SHOULD be seeing that in the MOVIE toys. But no, take random names and slap them onto random car modes with random robot modes, that works too...
I agree with like... everything...you just said
The problem with Hollywood is they don’t care about the franchise and they gave the job to a hater of the franchise to direct the films.😢 I own all of these and most of the Binaltech figures and the Binaltech figures are even better! Die cast construction. It’s a lost art. 😉
As someone whos a Transformers fan AND a car guy, i want these SO BADLY
Alternators Tracks walked so that Age of Extinction Crosshairs could strut.
Okay, now someone needs to give all the alternity figures to this man
This line is soo cool!!!!! The jaguar ravage makes me think of this shirt I got at a tf con where ravage is the jaguar logo😁
Love the new logos! So clean and sleek.
And not to mention shiny
First 10 mins yay and I gotta say, love the stop motion from ur other vids and miss it but love the vid
Preach on the awesomeness of Alternators!!!! MPs before the moniker existed! 👍🏾
It's been a long time bruh good to see ur videos again
I loved this line - more specifically the Binaltech versions. Die cast felt premium, 1/24th scale vehicles with front wheels that could turn and hoods & doors that opened. The robot modes we almost all sort of meh, with issues abound. But it was the sacrifice for the amazing alt modes with the engineering of the day. I sort of consider them the predecessor to the MP line.
I have a silver rx8, which seems to be the one you don't have , I love the fact that his guns are the exhaust itself ❤❤
Correction Prowl and Camshaft are an Acura RSX not An NSX
Smokescreen was the first Transformer I bought as an adult. I bought it just because he looked so damn cool. I loved the rest of the line too, especially Wheeljack, Mirage and Hound. But I still have nightmares about the transformation. 😢
Its kinda stange that there isnt more Car guys/nerds in the transformers community.
I used to own that Jaguar Ravage and man the car is wonderful till it transforms which made it nuts for me. Getting GT40 Mirage years later definitely my favorite of the entire line.
Nice review! I love alternators and I love my Jazz/Meister
First off. That opening. Not only did you take a card out of Gaming Historian's hat. But you took the idea to its logical extreme. And I LOVE IT! Now for the entries
5. Imagine if they did another version of Mudflap back then (I say that because this is pre bayverse)
4. Nice
I have Smokescreen too and he looks awesome and cool as a robot too
THEY HAVE INTERIORS?!?!
I've seen so many pictures of the alternators figures on TF-wiki, but never really looked into it because their alt-modes looked wonki. If I had known they were this high-quality I would have looked into them way way sooner.
I like to do modern takes on old and obscure characters when painting my Forza cars
Recently did Sideswipe as the lambo Sian, and Sunstreaker as the Hurrican STO
man, I want an Alternators 2.0, only ever had Rumble though.
These transformers look to have been the source for creating the masterpiece and subsequently the 3rd party masterpiece transformers lines!!
An RCR reference! A crossover of my two favorite channels!
Alternators is something I love, took me until 3/4 of the video to notice you did not do this in stop motion, I was in a trance
I hope that speaks to the quality of the video? Lol
@@TheLazyEyebrow 100% the video was great was not just the figures but your commentary that made me totally forget that you do stop-motion reviews
