Honestly, Ratchet is one of those characters that consistently has a good design outside of a few fuck-ups. Even his Bayverse look isn’t too bad, and is a nice departure from the rest.

I never liked the style of shows like animated, prime, rid15 etc. They're fine for debuting characters, but for returning ones they look freakish. Still, to each their own.

Even though the Bay designs are hated, Ratchet from those movies is iconic, really wished that he had that fight scene with Lockdown in Age of extinction.

@@orhandalegend Ratchet would still lose in 1vs1 with Lockdown. He is a medic, not a fighter like Bumblebee or Sideswipe.

Interestingly enough, the reason some versions of Ratchet don't have medical red crosses etc. is because in some places, medical symbols have serious restrictions on the ways in which they can be applied and used, even in media. This is why sometimes Ratchet's colours are inverted, so it's not a red cross on a white background (symbol of first aid/hospitals) but a white cross on a red background-- Which unfortunately then resembled at least one nation's flag, so a lot of the time they just omitted Ratchet's crosses (and other medical markings like the paramedic star) entirely, relying on the red and white colour scheme alone to get the point across.
That's why you paint him green and pray that nobody compares him to the Bayformers.....

Never understood the restrictions on medical symbols. What exactly are they expecting to happen if someone associates a health pak with the red cross? That people think medical vehicles can help save lives? Ohhh nooo.

Ratchet slicing and dicing Terror cons in Prime is perhaps one of his finest moments, other than going down dual weilding blasters against Megatron the the 86 movie

It was good, but I think taking down Lockdown and rescuing Optimus in Animated was better. It was a more personal and impactful moment for him.
I'm freaking out right now cuz once you started saying "the orange is new" for TFP Ratchet, I just stared wide-eyed, like...I never thought it was orange, that looks red to me. Maybe it's how the lighting in the show is, it blows out the red sometimes and makes it seem orange? Cuz I don't know if it's something different about my eyes to yours or what, but I almost had a crisis when you said ornage, lol.

Boi I thought the exact same thing lmao. I always saw it as red, maybe more on the orange side, but still red...I guess next to Knockout it's a bit more obvious because of how deep red he is.
it's an attempt to show what real red car paint with metal flake looks like it's red but under certain lights gets pretty orange looking

One detail I like about Animated Ratchet is that whenever he moves, you can hear him clank and squeak more than the others.
When Cam gets around to doing Sunstreaker, I'm predicting all/most of the designs to be in the highest category because with Sunstreaker its perfection or nothing

@@autobot793 Yet according to Hasbro it can work the other way around because for reasons unknown to me, Sunstreaker hasn't appeared on Tv since the 80s and Im not counting that name drop in Kingdom, that was just pain.
@@Sunswipes Agreed. Hasbro pretty much abandoned Sunny. They really need to bring the Lambros back together, because you really shouldn't split them up like that, but I'm not holding my breath😞

Design arguably, but character-wise? Animated all the way. That was the one that defined him as the weary veteran, and his episode with Lockdown and relationship with Omega Supreme were some of the best parts of any Transformers story.
The Ratchet/megatron fusion is understandable, but at the same time I like the body horror, Bayverse ratchet is cool, I wished he actually would do some field medic and repair some other autobots (The first movie when he lasered bumblebee doesn't count, that was basically a check up, plus it was a one time thing)

In the Bay Movies, I'd prefer Green, simply because I thought Yellow kind made him blend with Bumblebee a little too much. The green look sort of sets him apart from that, and makes the whole autobot lineup look more diverse,
I do enjoy grumpy Ratchet. All thanks to Animated Ratchet.
I like IDW mtmte/lost light and Prime ratchet's designs. He looks charming in IDW and wrise and has a grandpa vive in prime.
Especially since he has to deal with rowdy children and roguish bots on both occasions

Props for giving the Animated..you know what I mean if you watched the video...anyway, that design deserves the props. It was a good, nuanced look for a character, and really spoke volumes even before he opened his speech hole. Almost the whole show was good at visual storytelling for its character designs.

I can't remember if you ever did a video dedicated only to Transformers Universe concept arts (and if not it'd be nice to see you talk about it) but I have to say I've seen them dozens of times already, and I'm still awed by how amazing the characters look (some may be a little too cartoony, but they would exist well in the Transformers Prime universe). Such a shame the game never truly got off the ground...

Much like with Ironhide, that toy started out as a transformable mech walker for a microman. However, the "conversion" to a Transformer toy was such a rush job.
2007 Ratchet's design is absolutely top tier

For those of you who were wondering, gen 1 Ironhide and Ratchet, like many of the transformers at the time, were carried over from the Japanese series “Diaclone”. In Diaclone, the robots aren’t living beings, but rather actually just that. Robots. Specifically, they are Mech-like robots. And Ironhide and Ratchet showed that more than most, with seats for pilots instead of heads. Now, in Hasbro’s defense, they _did_ try to remedy this by adding a robotic-looking face on the windshields of the bots. Also, I personally *LOVE* Universe Ratchet. I quite like the Bo staff-looking arm. Also, the fact that they made the windshield fully translucent is really funny. It’s made that way so you can see the face when in alt mode. Looks like he’s driving himself :)
I absolutely love facemask heads (soundwave, optimus etc) but there are characters like ratchet thar just don't fit with that face. I don't know there is propably something more human about ratchet having a visible face and expression that is important. He usually has quite a character now and it fits he should emote more than others as well.
I like both green and yellow movie ratchet's, also do you plan to like rank fan made transformers redesigns of the character? just asking cause that will be cool also my ratchet redesign is a mix of g1 and bayverse but its mostly the g1 design with bayverse flood lights on the shoulders and life line on the shoulder and the transformation is like the bayverse ratchet transformation
I prefer the green more but the yellow was still really good
Ratchet’s always been my close second favourite character after Optimus. He almost always has a great design, even if they look different.
Oh, and I much prefer green over the yellow.
My favorites have got to be Tranformers Prime's Rachet, the original G1 Rachet from the cartoon, and the FOC and WFC rachet designs. And my favorite overall was the TF Prime Rachet.

Transformers Animated did great job with Ratchet.
He looked weird in TFA for me, probably because I heavily rely on body proportion and detail. The blue skin like chin is the main problem 👀

@@Latte44The blue on the chin is meant to evoke a five o’clock shadow. It demonstrates that Rachet is more grizzled and world-weary than the others. Animated had a lot of touches like that to help convey the characters personalities visually. Prowl’s slender limbs helping him to blend in, Bulkhead’s roundness demonstrating the softer guy underneath the physical strength, etc.
Regardless of the design for Ratchet... "It's alright, he's an emergency vehicle." HOOAH
My top 3 is probably MTMTE, FoC, and Bayverse. Animated is right up there too! Quality vid as usual, Comodin

I personally like the green version of live action ratchet. This is one of the best series on the channel in my opinion. I love all the effort you put into these videos. If you can reply to this comment is cyberverse worth watching. I've been hesitant to watch.

The movie toys were my first ratchet. Both movie colors and then the g1 inspired look
My favorite is Universe.
I also like G1 cartoon, Animated, IDW Infiltration, the one at 4:18, War Within (like with Ironhide, an improvement on the toy concept), Hearts of Steel, Michael Bay (green version), Online, Prime, RiD 2015, Ultimate Popup, Tiny Titans, Evergreen, Cyberverse, Bumblebee Overdrive, Forged to Fight, the one at 22:01, and War for Cybertron trilogy.
Ratchet has been one of my favourite characters since way back when I was a kid , I'm happy he's got a video now!!
I still love that Escalation design. The perfect blend of his Marvel comics design with his G1 cartoon design but with some line work to make him pop just looks great to me.
Tfp is, and will forever be, my favorite. He is amazing and nothing can change my mind on that.

Honestly, I think the lime 2007 and 2009 version of ratchet is probably my favorite because something about the colors seem more modern and pleasing of a color scheme. Don't get me wrong, I love the DOTM and AOE Light Neon Green and White Version from 2011 and 2014. It's just. The dotm version, its a tiny tiny bit too loud of a color scheme, even though I think it is very cool.

I keep thinking about the cartoon, Rachet need Minicons (I regard Soundwave's and Blaster's humanoid tapes as Minicons as well) maybe have them transforms from humanoid helpers to mobile medical equipment?
The main reason is he is most likely going to have to interact with human-sized people, and loading wounded ones into his body.

The nostalgia from the McDonalds and Burger King toys. My aunt worked at McDonalds so she snuck me most of the Animated toys and my family were big Transformer fans around the first film so they collected all the 2007 BK toys🤣
The realistic look of Ratchet for the 2007 is the same they used for the Nintendo ds game
I like the 2007 Ratchet partially due to the red heartbeat stripe on the side, but also due to the military medic look to his vehicle form, the Hummer suits him well. But we all know TFP Ratchet is the best.

I understand the HISS Tank Ratchet design not really working for Ratchet, but I can overlook that in that one case because it's not like Cobra would know that when they rebuilt him, and even if they did know they wouldn't care.

To me, earth wars is what combiner wars ratchet would've looked like but with classics chest and forged to fight seems like an entirely new robot with the classics vehicle mode, but without panel lines
I love the TFP style, the MTMTE style and the Bumblebee movie style.
Ratchet always remains consistent.
Yet i love the shows that still keep his core personality intact, while giving him something unique, like his more cantankerous old man personality in Animated
Yet i love how even though he's the designated medic, he can fight, and hold his own if he absolutely has to.

I just realized with the evergreen designs they SCREAM unicron trilogy cybertron designs just need them in a pose with their faction symbol behind them and there you go.
I love 2; the war for cybertron, for the design, and prime, for the sweet-hearted cranks-a-lot we all love and know.

Maybe I'm in the wrong here, but I feel pretty certain that TFP Ratchet is, in fact, white and red. It's just a brighter, warmer red but I would never consider it orange.

I have only seen two of these videos, one on negation and one on Ratchet and in both of them I was still caught off guard by the mutant ratchet negation hybrid.

Okay, so the original G1 toy was thrown into the trash without explaining the context, so I will explain: the reason why Ironhide and Ratchet look the way they do is because the Season 1 cast of toys was imported from Takara’s Diaclone and Microchange toylines, which had completely different lore from the Transformers. They were either remote controlled or piloted mechas. Ironhide and Ratchet obviously have seats where someone could pilot them.

Fun fact, several versions of Ratchet violate the Geneva Conventions just by existing. Specifically the ones with the red crosses, that symbol is only for use by the actual International Committee of the Red Cross (or ICRC) and usage of it is restricted. Though the ICRC aren't particularly stringent on that in a lot of smaller cases. Among Us famously had the red cross symbol in the game for two years before the game got hyper popular and they were notified that they needed to change it.
Does this matter at all? Nope. But hey, it's a neat conversation piece.

Animated and Bayverse Ratchet actually take more influence from Armada Red Alert. But then again Animated and Bayverse Bumblebee also take more influence from Armada Hot Shot too.

I first got introduced to ratchet from the first movie but TFP & TFA really made me like the chracter
I like the old cranky medic that was Animated Ratchet, but I feel like Prime perfected it. Plus, Jeffrey Combs is a legend. (I’m a big Star Trek fan.) Loved the Prime design, too.
