This movement is on of my favorite pieces of music. This is a very good youth orchestra!

Bravo to this young lady and her violin playing. It is exceptional and brought tears to my eyes. Bravo to the orchestra and to Concertmaster Alexandra Hjortswang for a fantastic performance.

This is one of my 2 favorites. Tchaikovsky piano concerto is the other. To witness either one of these live, is like being in heaven. Or at least as close to it without being alive from the dead........ If this is a glimpse of our youth, then we should not worry about the future.

i was lookin for this piece everywhere, when i was a kid my grandpaa used to turn on the radio so we can listen to the 1001 nights tales just before i sleep and the sound of the violin was on the background and it just keeps looping in my head, its beautiful, i could really imagine that i'm the prince shehraiar and the princess shehrazad is telling me all of thoes stories, sindbad alladin and the 40 thieves man thoes were some good times...

I was a kid, when I listen to a fairy-tale LP, and this solo violin was the background music to the story. I always cried, when hearing this sad,sad violin. I always thought, this must be a very sad woman or girl, who cried about a lost love or something else. It took years, I was a grown-up, till I found the name and composer of this wonderful piece of music. It still gives me goose pimples all over my body. They play it really great Love it so much!

This video taping is unclear and it is unfortunate. The Slovenian taping is superb and the presentation of the Slovenians is inspiring. Valiki rendition of this most magnificent piece of music gave me the shivers of pleasant feeling. Good Luck to you all. You have presented a very spirited performance. However, watch and listen to the Slovenian youth.

I'm listening along and every now and then a certain part would make me think of some movie, video game or something where that same peice of music had played - and until now I'd had no idea where it came from... and now I do and am glad for it.

By the book, the "Concertmaster" is the 2nd most important person in the orchestra after the Conductor ("Number One," if you will forgive a Star Trek allusion) and is typically the first-chair Violin, so we are hearing young Alexandra perform those moving violin solos.
    BRAVA!!!

I didn't say what I said to be critical of either version. I only suggested that those interested could listen to it and see if they enjoyed it. I'm very fond of the original "Song of India" myself. Years ago I traveled in India and went up to Manali in the Himalayan foothills (mountains) and in that benign, pastoral place the memory of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakovs version came to mind. It does capture the mystical, fantastic India once you get out of the cities. Sorry if I offended you.

I didn't say TDs version made sense. Enough people liked it back then to make it one of his biggest hits. It reminds me of Elvis Presley singing "It's Now or Never" using the melody "O Solo Mio" by Eduardo di Capua. I suppose if one doesn't like it they could refrain from listening to it again.... Don't you agree? Thanks

That concermaster has a superb sounding violin. Something tells me it is not a strad or guarneri (maybe I'm wrong). Further proof that many other violins sound just as good as the strads and guernaris. The exclusive superiority of those violins is a myth.
