    LGBTQ people have to face so many battles. I mean the first is the internal one. Accepting themselves. Then coming out to the family. Then the bigger battle is to fight the societal prejudices all through their lives. I am straight but I really respect you guys. I sincerely hope that no Homophobic exists in this world. More power to you guys. God bless you.

      There is a bit more to the story. There are gay kids who are more gender variant and they often are bullied and ostracized in childhood. I faced that. It's hell!

    Hi Gopu! Another Malayali gay guy here. I've lived all over the south and have never lived in any proper city and i turned out to be gay. Growing up without proper internet till college and having zero knowledge that being gay was normal( i thought i was transgender and was going to my deathbed with that secret), it took me to get to the age of 25 to admit that i was what is considered gay. It was pretty liberating coming out to a few friends in college and then my amma. It was very difficult but i had to come clean to amma when they started looking at girls for me(yuck).
    No we are living in the US but people don't seem to understand how difficult it is to come out to Malayali Christian parents and an extremely conservative brother. I was looking out for anybody who has similiar experiences as a malayali so i am really glad to have come across this video. Thank you for making me feel like i'm not alone in this. All the best for your future.

    I am a gay too but for me the struggle is that I am more masculine and people don't believe me when I tell them that I am gay. They think that I am just kidding, so it's a different struggle for masculine gays but people are slowly changing their attitude specially in cities like Delhi and Mumbai. In my office everybody on my team knows that I am gay, and I am treated equal to them.
    We should do something about breaking stereotypes about gay people.

    i am a malayali gay teen. i remeber when i first came out to my mum at 13, i was not ready beause i had not accepted myself. so i was sat there not able to face my mothers reaction, with tears streaming down my face. the very next day i got sent to be converted from 'this sinful nature'. there i only hated myself more. both my mothers and my unacceptance almost destroyed of my family! only after self acceptance and coming out can you go anywhere with yourself. that dark place in my life lead me to be dignosed with depression and dissociation. but after telling my mother that i am , after one long year, proud of my sexuality and will not give her anymore false hope of changing it. that sense of freedom is AMAZING. thank you so much for making this video. india is so far from being a safe place to openly live in, despite all the people who are LGBTQ+ in it. only after we accept and defend our rights and freedom will anything ever be changed. love from thoughtfox

    Bro, I think we should work for the children(LGBTQ) with the help of schools. Bcz you and I know how ugly our childhood was, but I never want somebody to go through that phase. We can protect and aware the teens and small kids, who are bit different in behavior like us, with the help of the teachers. So that they won't regret like you and me are regretting about our childhood and memories. 🥺

    Wonderful video. Even I knew I was different from the time I was 8 or 9 years old. Fortunately, I was not bullied or asked for sexual favours. It is sad that you had to go through all that. You have turned out even stronger. Suicide rates are many times higher among LGBTQ youth.
    Now, 377 has been modified. Still, as you mention, the most important thing is ground reality and every day life for out LGBT people. I am seeing improvement in the attitudes of the current generation.

    You are so right from 18:01
    Till the day our school books will not have LGBTQ topics ( for awareness and also lgbtq stories and characters in lessons) we can’t call Indian society gender inclusive... and as you rightly said straight people don’t have lgbtq issues as their priority .... so we need many lgbtqai representatives in various areas like politics and education, to bring a widespread inclusion.

    • @Tragic.Kingdom
      @Tragic.Kingdom 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sexual orientation and gender/sex are two separate things . The reason why LGBT+ is not in mainstream is like any other minority not in the mainstream . Because population /percent is lower. LGBT+ is like a less than 5% ratio. Some even say less than 1% . Just like in LGBT+ communities and pop culture within the community , straight culture is not really included . State of minority community within a state .

Because I always have a fear to be teased by others. I soo relate to that, when I came out on my instagram I had so many fake people being like Woww, we totally support you and if u ever need to talk I’m here and all that stuff, I’m not even joking cause, I would talk to them here and there after school and a very stupid question would arise: “Are you still gay?” And I’m like yeahh. And they are like we support but not if ur like James Charles or if ur not a”hijda” and they somehow feel godlike to say stuff like that. These type of comments always kept me from coming out open
    Y Amd hiding my feminine side or tendencies cause I needed a support but the only support I got was for my masculine side. I’ve only recently came out of that trauma and started to love myslef my body but sadly I had to litterally be in an entirely different country to do that. I love how you never change yourself around other people, Ik I did am I hate it because I was told by people I loved and respected that how to look straight and how to sit, how to dress how to not move my hands while I talk and a lot of other stuff.

Having dated an Indian man, working in the United States, I would like to hear more from you about how you connect with your fellow man , your actual life behaviors in an essentially homophobic society. I was so shocked to find out that your society is not all about love and peace and acceptance. Can you speak more about that for your audience. I grew up in San Francisco. I was 14 when Stonewall happened. Even growing up in San Francisco I was bullied and felt isolated. I remember teachers and scoutmasters telling me "stop acting like a sissy". I was sent to counselors and a psychiatrist who were similarly unsupportive and blamed me for the bullying. I learned otherwise only when I became politically active in the Democratic Party and met early gay rights activists. I eventuality met Harvey Milk and supported him in 4 campaigns. Harvey proved to San Francisco that it's ok to be gay and that coming out changes people's minds. 🌈

I know for myself, how much uncomfortable and traumatized i felt when class 10th biology was being introduced. I mean it wasn't for me... And i was traumatised by thinking that I would have to be this way... Those science books never reflected anything about lgbtq+ identity. It was in my college days that I came to know about lgbtq community. I was relieved then... Knowing that nothing is wrong with me...and there are people like me out in the world.
