      way too much oil, also used oil is more acidic and has less water whch leads to a better seasoning.

    Very impressive, really nice job DW6! You had it seasoned perfectly, nothing was sticking. An inexpensive point and shoot IR thermometer would be a perfect addition to get it to a perfect griddle temp.

    Great effort. Just one suggestion if you don't mind. From experience, I find it better to weld the cooking plate edge around the outside (as against the inner edge). It is far easier to clean right up to and around the edge with a scraper. Otherwise, the scraper is just rubbing against the weld. Looks a lot neater as well

    Great video! I've been looking at getting a separate self standing griddle, but now I'm going to look for a steel plate to sit on my big charcoal grill! Thanks!

    I'm in the process of making a 9.5" bacon press out of 3/8 diamond plate. My goal is to heat it on one of the stove burners while i pre heat the cast skillet and it'll cook both sides at the same time. Should bring cooking time way down. I got a handle for a wood stove off Amazon for $7. Just need to soak it in vinegar to derust the diamond side and weld on the handle and season it. I don't think I've ever been so excited to cook bacon. It should work great

    Nice build. Excellent idea. I would definitely have sanded that down to bare metal a little better. Also use A LOT LESS OIL TO SEASON. the idea is to use a think coating of oil then let it burn off then repeat a few times.

    Beautiful griddle …way better than a blackstone or any other brand…what makes it better than the other ones is the thickness of it…you can polish it till it is like a glass…nothing will stick to it…

    @dayv4630 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You've got to season with a VERY thin coating. Let it burn off. Repeat a few times. Your method will work, temporarily - but then the coating will be thicker and eventually get sticky and start to flake off.

    How could you not sand that down to clean steel? All that work and it looks like it's made from scrap you found.
    I love the job you did. I'll bet it works awesome, I appreciate you posting this. I'm only saying a 25 minute sanding with a random orbital thru the gross would have made that look like something is want to eat off.

    what type of metal was used?

  • @sttm1283
    @sttm1283 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    for a griddle, does it have to be that thick? or can one go with thinner metal? for eg like 3mm instead?

    • @bobbya.7854
      @bobbya.7854 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my opinion it's too thick. 5-6 mm is enough.

  • @justnoted2995

    Maybe you would reconsider the gauge of the griddle you made? Uses to much gas to heat-up, and also time-wise to get the food cooked

  • @tomanderson3369
    @tomanderson3369 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I just finished the same project. Unfortunately, the heat built up and caused the knobs for each burner to melt.

    a) how has this held up since you built it and b) what about grease management? The name brand ones have a hole where you can scrape grease and food bits to but I didn't see anything like that on yours.

  • @berardia4

    For cooking you should use food grade stainless steel, or cast iron, but intresting project otherwise.
