This is a very good question to ask , although I think the truth would be too hard for most people to accept! I am glad you titled your video “Igboland” and nothing else ! As attractive as it might sound to some Igbo’s and the so called biafra activists , an igboland as a country would struggle terribly! Igbo’s thrive very well today , because they ARE a part of larger entity called Nigeria ! Igbo traders are just about everywhere else in Nigeria, and they have been like this since well before independence! Igbo people are indeed one of some 260 other ethnicities in Nigeria! And that’s where their current success stems from! An Igbo trader in Alaba in Lagos is not selling solely to Igbo people, it is the vast majority of other Nigerians that needs the goods and services of the industrious Igbo, that makes them wealthy! I don’t believe that this can be replicated solely in an Igbo country! How would An igboland as envisaged survive as a nation with no access to the sea? With no land borders with any other African country , as it would be totally surrounded and encircled by Nigeria ! Even a very friendly neighbouring Nigeria would feed fat from tariffs earned from taxing igboland! An aeroplane flying from say Doula or Chad or Cameroon would enter Nigerian airspace before it can land in igboland, international tariff laws allows Nigeria to charge for entry into her airspace, which won’t be the case now as igboland is part of Nigeria ! Igboland will have no access to the sea! Although it has numerous rivers, a hostile Nigeria can dam any river it wants from the coastal waters and there in nothing igboland can do ! So the seaports of Lagos/Port Harcourt/Calabar/Uyo would feed fat from proceeds earned from goods earmarked for Igboland in the interior ! Very much in the manner of the blockade that was used to starve “biafrans” during the civil war ! Supplies of food and medicine were stopped as indeed were supplies of arms and ammunitions! So despite their zeal and grit , biafra was totally strangulated ! As Nigeria is constituted today, only two areas of the country can “enjoy” a secession, and those are Crossriver/ Akwa Ibom as one entity ( former South Eastern state) and (to a very much lesser degree, Lagos state ( as it is constituted today with its 20 million diverse people! Lagos as an Awori nation or even an entirely Yoruba state would struggle terribly! And if anyone thinks Oduduwa as a complete Yoruba entity would be a success story needs to go back into ancient history! Some of the most formidable inter- tribal wars recorded in modern day Nigeria were fought in Yoruba land ! The South Eastern state “Crossriver/Akwa Ibom is probably the best or should I say a better option!! As a country of her own, she would have internal diversity of its people ( this is of utmost important) , she would have multiple access to the sea and also share a land border with Cameroon ! It has ample oilfields and massive agricultural land especially in Crossriver! Not so much Igboland! It’s a lofty thought, but a landlocked Igboland totally surrounded by another country would struggle terribly as a nation state! My take !
Like you, I am happy that the video was named 'Igboland' and not 'Biafra' or any combination of the two. You are entirely right in your analysis. But it is a difficult and very delicate matter for any member of Ndi Igbo to voice that opinion. So allow me to commend you. I write as one who was in secondary school during the civil war and lost at least one good friend who died in 1968 at the age of 14 fighting in the bitter 'Battle of Onitsha.' I have been privileged since then in my profession as a global business journalist and analyst to understand that there is no way that secession would work, for many of the reasons that you have outlined and more! Indeed, I cannot think of a single example where it has. In Yugoslavia, the break up of the country into its constitution parts led to a horrific civil war in the 1990s. The break up of Czechoslovakia led to the impoverishment of the Czech and Slovak republics. And in Africa, no one can say that the secession of South Sudan from the Muslim majority nation has been a success. Nor indeed has the splitting away of Eritrea from Ethiopia. As you rightly point out the first thing that will be done if a Biafran republic is declared is that the borders will be sealed. We will be lucky to have access to Port Harcourt, much less Calabar or any other sea port. An air link will hardly be capable of sustaining our population. In any event we will be at the mercy of Abuja whose navy and airforce could blockade Biafra at will. Those of you old enough to remember Uli airstrip will remember that relief flights were limited and could only land by night for fear of being shot down, as some were! And who are these politicians that will lead Biafra into the 'promised land'? Is it not the same politicians that we have now? Solutions to the problems facing Ndi Igbo will only be found when those of temperate character are ready to take the 'emotional' heat out of the debate. In this regard we should play to our strengths, not our weaknesses. Our strengths include the fact that as a people our commercial instincts and manufacturing abilities are unrivalled within the Nigerian entity! We should promote that and seek ways to act within the wider Nigerian polity to our advantage. I personally would like to see a 'Hong Kong' style solution, meaning 'one nation two systems'. Mainland China allows Hong Kong to succeed because it is in their advantage to do so. Our weakness, also the weakness for Hong Kong, is that we are small. That means that if we try to take on the rest of Nigeria, head on, we are bound to lose. The citizens of Hong Kong understand this in their relationship with Beijing and mostly disavow politics in order to concentrate on their economy. We can learn a lesson from this.
@@nnamdianyadike3131 You my guy, you are blessed! This is the most coherent and unemotive feedback that i have read ! Most times agitators are hostile, crude, abusive ! They would arrogate or designate a tribe for you ! But yours is an embodiment of erudition and common sense! I can’t thank you enough for your civility as well as your factual take on the subject matter!
I would agree with some points but you're underestimating Igbos also Biafra DID exist (as did Oduduwa etc.) and it was very successful, they were only drawn back for British gain so... Today there are many options available i.e. the United Kingdom which has 4 countries but is still identified as 1 and it works better than all the countries being 1 country only. If that makes sense. Currently, there is strong self-identity and nationalism of Biafrans which aids its success and natural formation as a unique entity, such is not present in Nigeria (excluding Lagos, which is ideally what a combined culture looks like) as a whole due to the excess cultural diversity (leading to the divergence of identity), so I go back to the UK idea. But it's all in God's hands.
@@praiseline8279 Praiseline, biafra “existed” for all of 30 months from 1967 to 1970 as an attempted secession! The name biafra was acquired from the coastal feature which extends from Rivers in present day Nigeria to Equatorial Guinea ! And it is not an Igbo word or name , biafra is a corrupted version of the name Mafra and it was named by the Portuguese after a town in Portugal! It has no correlation to Igboland in any form! It did seem plausible (at the time) because of Nigeria’s geopolitical structure of 4 regions ( for administration purposes)whereby the Eastern region did have the areas of present day Akwa Ibom, Crossriver, Bayelsa and Rivers , but they were not known as biafra and neither were they one entity! Indeed the federal government of the day ,restructured the country from 4 regions into 12 states, before the first bullets were fired ! Indeed prior to the biafra war, there was a more spontaneous and impactful revolution among the Oil Rivers people (Ijaw/Kalabari) , an attempt to create the Niger Delta republic, which didn’t want to have to answer to Lagos(federal republic capital) or to Enugu( Eastern region capital) It was evident that the Niger Delta minorities didn’t like or want igbo domination and wanted out of the Eastern region since way back in the 50’s! And this had been birthed by a proactive minority rights activism in Nigeria ! Indeed the 12 states structure placated and pacified both northern and southern minority groups in Nigeria ! A lot of chronic political miscalculations by some political actors (including igbos) in the early 1960’s was what brought a newly independent nation in to full scale war within 6 to 7 years of its independence! Prior the the British colonisation, Igbo’s were a very politically fragmented ethnic group, with different centralised chiefdoms! The much saluted Igbo sense of ethnic pride and ethnic identity of today did not exist in the olden days ! Indeed, this is not particular to the Igbo’s alone! British colonial rule made us firstly to be aware of our various immediate ethnicities, and then by extension, our Nigerianness! But here is the summation Praiseline, Nigeria has nearly 300 distinct ethnic groups, each with their own language and customs, of course with the Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa being the largest 3! It is this tripod stand mentality ( imposed on us by the British) that has fuelled the repeated secession ideology from essentially the big 3 ethnic groups in Nigeria! I believe it is archaic, tribalist , primitive and backwards! Balkanisation, secession, just like military coups, are outdated and primordial! If after a mere 6 years of independence, we didn’t manage to split up, we are not going to do it now after 60 years of independence and 106 years of amalgamation! Make everybody go drink beer!

i get a lot of hate speech about Igbos, e.g. Igbos go back to your dirty village, Igbos you complain too much go and develop your towns and villages, Igbo this, Igbo that. and when that hatred starts i just simply share Eboh G's videos and everywhere ajuor oyi, you can hear a pin drop in Alaska. A few days ago there was another Igbo hater on Patz TV youtube channel after we watched the vid on banana island and i commented that i thought it would look better taken into account the cost of land.
Then the hate speech started, Igbo man go back to your dirty village, Igbo man if you had houses you would not be in Lagos or Abuja so i just sent Eboh G's video on Abiriba and Onitsha and then one of mine called the True Beauty of Owerri and i asked the hater which village or town should i choose as all our towns and villages are replicas of whats in these videos. The guy or the hater felt so low, he apologised, and he admitted saying , you Igbos come from a very beautiful place O and then he changed his earlier stance to, because you people come from a beautiful place doesn't mean you should complain about other people's towns.
He looked down on Igbos because he had no idea of what our home towns and villages look like. Other Nigerians look down on us because they are non the wiser. Many believe Igbos are in Lagos and Abuja because we have no towns and villages or we still live in mud houses

Odogwu nwoke daalu!!!
Ala igbo amaka
Indeed prior to the biafra war, there was a more spontaneous and impactful revolution among the Oil Rivers people (Ijaw/Kalabari) , an attempt to create the Niger Delta republic, which didn’t want to have to answer to Lagos(federal republic capital) or to Enugu( Eastern region capital)
It was evident that the Niger Delta minorities didn’t like or want igbo domination and wanted out of the Eastern region since way back in the 50’s!
